Moving to South Carolina-any folk clubs there?

Although I've visited there many times, I've never been there long enough to check out the folk scene. I can tell you that the John C. Campbell Folk School is in Brasstown, NC, near Brevard, about a 45 mile drive from Greenville. As thurg mentioned above, Newberry is another place to check out as well as Abbeville. Both towns have a folky atmosphere and have active theater groups but that's about all the info I have on them. I'm assuming you're looking for participatory events. Hope you find some and, if so, please pass the information on to the rest of us.

I was in a small town called Newberry for a week last year - I don't remember now how far it was from Greenville/Spartanburg, but I think it was in the same general part of the world. Anyway, there's a coffee shop in the downtown that has a relaxed, folkie musical gathering on Friday nights. Also, a relaxed, folkie music store across the street.

Charlotte and Asheville in North Carolina are both about an hour to an hour and a half away from where you'll be. Charlotte has the Charlotte Folk Society, and I'm sure there's a lot going on in Asheville.

JtS said he was driving through a small town near Greenville this past week and saw a poster for some kind of old timey music event in that town, but he doesn't remember the name of the town. You'll probably find a lot going on in that area if you ask around when you get there.

My brother and sister-in-law live near there. They like it, but if you love gardening, be prepared to start investigating deer-proof plants.
