You and I are likely in accord.   I never agreed with a word the man wrote, but he did pay his share of rent and utilities in a timely fashion.

However, I would have liked to have witnessed Strausbaugh bouncing himself out of the Rock Hall of Fame - we surely missed a great stir - I'm certain he'd have done The Baptist proud...

Fish! Fish!!!!!!! And doesn't everyone have a teabreak these days? Mark Knopfler was indeed amazing as are many. It's the aging rock star thing - gotta die before you're thirty stuff. There's no such thing as an 'aging' folkie, classical, whatever. Is it the ultimate commitment to life this aging rock star thing - holding onto eternal youth - peter pan syndrome (whatever THAT is)? I've heard so many tirades again Mick Jagger (oh yes, I can understand) but....... he's just doing what he does. Does Mark Ferrie fit the criteria? Paul McCartney? It's that he's 'aging' and 'rock' that does it. Here I am starting to go on and on ......... what belongs to the young and what belongs to the 'aging' - I would say 'old' but given our culture, it's such a harsh word in its way - oh, and the other thing, why are they always male. I was just thrown Deb Harry and Chrissie Hyndes but they simply don't fit - well I don't think so anyway. There you go - another question - is it a male thing? Personally I find aging rock stars adorable but they do seem to .......... well they do seem to.

Danny, I'd disagree with your ex-roomie. Sure, some of them have stopped rocking and become parodies - Aerosmith for one. But some of them still do it, and do it well. Status Quo have been an unfashionable joke for practically their entire performing career, but that doesn't alter the fact that they rocked like good'uns, and they can *still* do it. There's a band called the Hamsters in the UK who play blues-rock - they're all over 40 IIRC and they've *never* had radio play or any chart stuff, but they tour constantly to packed-out houses because they're *good*. And Mark Knopfler this year was frankly amazing, even if he did have a tea break in the middle. :-)

I will actually see the process in action tonight, as I will be going to see Van Morrison in concert (for the first time). He seems to want to age by exploring every type of music that ever appealed to him before he goes, which can be as good a thing as you either choose to, or are actually able to, make of it. His current album is country oriented, singing "There Stands The Glass" and such. We'll see how or if he ties up all the other threads (R&B, Celtic, Jazz, Skiffle et. al.) with it all. At least he's not trying to go out as an oldies act, but then his muse, unique brand of spirituality, temprement and ego have always taken him in odd directions.

And he IS the only artist I know of to have personally produced the multi-artist tribute album devoted to his own songs...

But I have folloewd his recording career through thick and thin, for the rewards the thick provide.


Should prove interesting.

I dislike categories ... all I can say is that as I get older all the baggage starts to fall by the wayside ... in aging for me (and my wife) we find that life has much greater returns than we expected ... life is rich and full ... life is good.

But then, can 'aging' 'rock' and 'star' be separated without a changing intent? And what about 'baby boomers'? Are they the same category or a sub-category?

Even very old stars are probably still too hot for rocks to form. The elements may be there, but they don't form compounds at stellar temperatures. And if a star does cool down enough for rocks to form, it's not really a star anymore, is it? It's just a rock.

I dunno ........ what can anyone say about an AgingRS? Are they so aging? What does that mean anyway? Personally, I say a lot about them at various times but what do people think? I know some people have married them. What is that about? And yes, I am being deliberately cryptic. Responses?
