Well, yeah, from my view point there isn't much difference between the Dems and Repubs... They seem to be more like rival fraternities on campus rather than leaderhip organizations...

I still hold out some hope for the Dems with Howard Dean having wrestled control of the DNC but he's in an uphill battle right now with organization matters at the precinct level and until he gets them squared away, there's absolutely no room for him to have influence on the platform...

But, on an optimistic note, while the federal governemnt is mired in radialism and corruption, many state and local governemnts are stepping up to the plate and moving forward with progressive things such as living wage legislation, innovative educational programs that have nuthin' to do with the underfunded and ill-thou7ght out No Child Left Behind and health care for citizens... And these things have come into play from bi-partisan efforts...

Heck, I've been involved with 2 Main Street programs and politics has nuthin' to do with Main Street and folks, irregardless of party affiliation, just roll,l up there sleeves and make stuff happen in their towns...

Take, for instance, the morning after pill. Nobody, not Democrats or Republicans, was willing to go to bat for the average woman to get access to this drug.

Now that it is becoming clear through the secret polling the parties are doing, that the white men who rule this nation are so out of touch (not to mention contemptuous of) with the majority of American women's thinking about their reproductive rights being auctioned off one by one to appease the extremely vocal minority of religious right voters, they decide to "silently approve" the over the counter sale during the quiet days of summer in an election year.

Are most Americans opposed to women having control over their own bodies? Opposed to women, and women alone having the right to make the medical decisions that will effect them and them alone? Are most Americans in favor of depriving women of their marital rights (as occurred with the Congressional intervention to "save Terry Schiavo") when they don't like the decision that is being made, and allowing the government to intervene to overturn that decision? Are most Americans opposed to women having complete, free access to birth control? Are most Americans opposed to any and all abortion, under any and all circumstances?

See, the problem is, the political establishment is guilty as charged of allowing/instigating all of the above, in an effort to appease the social and religious conservatives of BOTH parties. Women be damned.

Keep voting Democrat and Republican, ladies. Look where it has gotten you so far. "The Handmaid's Tale" is already your electoral reality.

That is what I believe. And that majority of Americans does not seem to be either to the left of the liberal Democrats or the right of conservative Republicans, as the spin doctors and pundits love to claim. They are simply not engaged with the political process, because they know both the electoral system and the political establishment is hopelessly corrupted, and our system of governance badly broken.

So they no longer participate in the process at all, or vote only when someone fires them up enough to overcome their hopelessness and despair.
