The monopoly capitalists of Henry Ford's day were not of "limited mentality" by any means. They WERE, however, venal, immoral, crooked, grasping, and greedy.

Pretty much like the monopoly capitalists of today.

Henry was a capitalist who understood socialism. If his workers were fairly paid and healthy they would work harder and be more productive. I suppose it was win/win . He kept the price of his cars low so they would sell to working people because he understood that they were his biggest potential market. Not rocket science but far above the limited mentality of most capitalists of his day.

Don't set Henry up as Mother Theresa just yet- aside from the fact that his pay rates were in his own best interest, he also had some little quirks like invading & controlling every aspect of his workers' lives e.g. those "cute" unannounced domiciliary visits, etc.

Well, actually, though, Henry Ford was criticized for paying his workers $5.00 a day--an unheard of wage at the time. Other industrialists had a hissy-fit because they thought Ford was setting a horrible example, i.e., when the word got around, their workers would want good wages too!

But Ford was no dummy. He figured that it was just smart business to pay his workers enough so they could afford to buy the automobiles they were making.

Are you kidding? Do you think Mual Wart couldn't hire a better flack than "Old"--one who could write coherent sentences had graduated from the second grade, and might be capable of reading what he himself posted? It seems a reasonable request.
