Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: dianavan Date: 18 Nov 06 - 02:21 AM The Dems will have to block Gates. If they don't, kiss your privacy good-bye. He is the Republican answer to changing the name of the war and the epitome of big brother. |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: Adrianel Date: 17 Nov 06 - 09:35 PM I understand that Gates was the Reagan administration's designated supporter of Saddam in the 1980s. I don't know if he was involved in the CIA "assistance" of their chemical weapons program, though. |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: Barry Finn Date: 17 Nov 06 - 05:03 PM In all likelyhood Gates will make Rummy look like a gental giant the Democrates will pay dearly if he's installed. It'll be a case of going 3 steps forward & wham 2 miles & 6 six years in reverse. Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: Greg F. Date: 17 Nov 06 - 09:59 AM There's still a miniscule hope that the Dems- if they can get over their "Gutless Wonder Party" performance of the last dozen years- will block Gates- as they should. But I'm not putting money on it. |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: Barry Finn Date: 17 Nov 06 - 03:06 AM & the newly seclected Gates can fit right in for his Iran-Contra ass-ins. Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: dianavan Date: 16 Nov 06 - 08:39 PM Agreed, Greg. Kissinger is the prince of death. I'm sure he has been right behind Bush, Rummy, Wolfy and Cheney as a highly paid consultant. I hope they are all tried for war crimes. As long as they are allowed to get away with war crimes, war crimes will continue. |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: Greg F. Date: 16 Nov 06 - 10:17 AM There's a huge backlog of U.S. war criminals need prosecution- they could start with Henry Kissinger & work up to the present..... |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Nov 06 - 07:34 PM "now that he no longer has immunity" - any immunity that he has or had is purely a matter of power politics. Properly speaking any supposed "immunity" has never had any standing in courts outside the USA. The same goes for any other people (with the exception of a currently reigning head of state) involved in war crimes and human rights abuses, who might be under the impression that recent legislation in the USA gives them some kind of immunity from prosecution outside the confines of the USA. But of course power politics do come into it, and courts and judges are liable to cosy up with the people in power - so I think there's no need to worry when visiting, for example, the UK. But there are some other countries torturers and suchlike had be best advised to avoid. I'd hope Germany might be one of them. |

No mention of individual Iraqi's making complaints, more a general war crimes indictment. I'm just waiting for it to come up on the BBC's website. |

Subject: RE: BS: rumsfeld - war criminal From: Lox Date: 14 Nov 06 - 06:37 PM The new suit includes more evidence including guantanamo bay torture. It shows Rumsfeld as having a direct role in the torture and abuse of prisoners. In one document where it was reported that a prisoner had been made to stand for 4 hours as a way of weakening him, he commented in his own written hand that he stood for a good 8 hours a day so the prisoner should have been made to stand for at least that amount of time, or words to that effect. |
