The motion picture was first released in 2007 as Buda as sharm foru rikht, about a young girl who wants to go to school to learn to read and write. It was released in Europe in 2008 as "Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame."
It concerns the Taliban attitude (and that of many other Afghans) to the education of women, and the difficulties and frustrations of a girl who wants to learn.

The film is Iranian.
What Buddha has to do with Muslim Afghanistan, I don't know.

The DVD of the film is coded for Region 2, not compatible with North American equipment unless the DVD player is 'all-region' (I bought one, I wanted to watch Tintin and other European films). About $100 from an internet supplier.

The DVD may be purchased from amazon.fr, but wait a while and it will probably show up coded for N. Am.

Perhaps it has to do with Buddha as referenced in the Wiki notes for which I provided a link. The relevant bit was

Bakhtay (Nikbakht Noruz), a little girl living in the caves under the remains of the Buddha statues of Bamyan (which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001), becomes obsessed with the idea of going to school.

Remember the thread we had about them destroying those statues?

There are some tribal people from the Buddhist tradition in those mountainous regions, particularly around the area called Baltistan. Most of the common people seem to be in favour of girls getting an education, but there are various authoritative religious pests who oppose it...contrary to the written teachings of Mohammed, who encouraged education for both boys and girls.

It isn't Islamic people who are opposed to educating women, it's a specific variety of fundamentalist Islamic people who are, demonstrating that they don't even understand their own holy books.

Read Greg Mortensen's books about building schools in those areas for further info. He got a great deal of help from Islamic people...he was opposed by a small minority of power-hungry local Mullahs here and there, and helped by other Mullahs. The Mullahs in Iran approved his building of schools for boys and girls.

There are benighted fundamentalists right here in the US, and they even have their own HBO series: Big Love - which has a very questionable point of view regarding women. How is it that this creepy fringe shit gets a prime time show on HBO?

The title to me seems not to be sayng that Buddha himself collapsed because he felt shamed, but rather the the statues collapsed as a result of a shameful incident, which itself was symptomatic of a shameful context ie the whole fuckin' mess.

It is probably the closest possible approximation to a correct translation of an Afghani phrase or proverb.

Anyway, sounds like an interesting film.
