Is the Wail on this year, and if so, where?

For those who don't know, this is an excellent little festival in Deepest England, traditionally held near Wareham in Dorset (near Bournemouth), last year moved to near Ringwood (near Southampton).

Actually never particularly near anywhere.

No booked guests, no concerts, just lots and lots of unaccompanied singing, choruses and harmonies (and the infamous mediaeval banquet - with the emphasis on the 'evil')

So, is it on? Is it back at Wareham?

People need to know.

Andrew & Carole

Hi Andrew.
I understand from Alan White that little will be done about the Wail until after Sidmouth. He is rather busy organising the Sidmouth camp site and other events for that festival.
Colyn.

But I understand that The Wail will occur.

It has to cos JudeL and John Henry are handfasting and Micca is officiating. At least that is what I heard at Miskin.

The usual dates are the weekend after Towersey which this year will mean that the Wail will occur over the first weekend in September. Unless of course Alan has to rearrnage things.

It is most definatly happening.

I checked up on it because there is nothing on the web about it yet, for the reasons that colyn said, Alan is busy with sidders (and doing a grand job)
So her it is from the grand old man himself

"Hi Mike,
Wareham 1-3rd Sept at Verwood same as last year

          Cheers Alan"

So lets turn this thread in to a who is going thread.
Champagne Carol and I will be there.

To comply with Cllr's request I have added 3 words before the question mark - hope it works.

But to answer the question it now asks :-

Me and she who must be obeyed and Fred & Binns our mates from Rottingdean

It is looking unlikely that Micca and I will be aable to make the Wail this due due to logistic problems.

Its a shame because it's a wonderful little festival which we very much enjoy.

Sorry to hear that, Khatt - does Jude know?

(Well, of course she does, now)

We'll be there, barring unforseen circumstances.

Apart from anything else, the campsite is by the River Crane. There's a close near there called 'Crane Drive', which makes for a good photo.

See you around,

Andrew & Carole

Hello,
I live in Wareham, but have never heard of 'The Wareham Wail'. I'd like to go. Do you have nay idea of the details/ where I could find out more? Thanks! (Oh yes, I suppose it wouldnt have anything to do with the folk band that played with Kim Ethrington on the Quay last year?)

Try warewail@aol.com. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, Alan White is involved in organising Sidmouth Festival, so hasn't had much time to follow up the early publicity for the Wail.

The Wail moved last year from a farm in Wareham (because the campsite was being sold for redevelopment) to a farm in Verwood (near Monmouth Ash). If you like unaccompanied song, lots of harmonies, cream teas, mediaeval banquets (medieval costume optional) and having a good time, this festival is for you.

This year's weekend season ticket costs £19.50 including banquet and camping).

Russ is about to become a father (and Alie a mother) so I just hope that they and new arrival (and Crouch Vale beers) will be at the Wail!

MBS George - the best thing I ever got for Limpit was one of those expanding dog leads that you can set at a particular length or let it spring back. Put her in walking reins, clipped the lead to the reins, pegged the handle of the lead down with a chair/table/foot/tent peg and she was free to roam within a range of my choosing... also great for snapping the little darling back when she ran off in the opposite direction.
