Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: Cathie Date: 06 Sep 06 - 08:00 PM As requested by Ross, I am reacting to Blue Anchor ending. Hopefully it will resurge (?) again as it was a musical forum that brought together folkies from all over the place. You never knew who was going to turn up. Sorry - but I was distracted by the poetry that followed and the food at Ashwell. And then I was imagining JP dressed up as Lena Zavaroni. And then I began to wonder where the year had gone and about Christmas shopping and then the kettle boiled and the sun called me outside for an end of season coup de soleil. |

Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: GUEST,silverfish Date: 07 Sep 06 - 10:21 PM Thanks Ross 'n Catherine. And John, all noted. Dragged meself from me sickbed to get to Redbourn last (Thur) night. Jenny tells me the hunt is on *taran-tara* for a new venue and all will be kept informed. Damn shame to lose a good venue for another friendly (like Barton) club. Cheers all. |
Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: Ross Date: 09 Sep 06 - 05:22 AM Hi Trevor Good to hear you are getting better It's a shame about the Blue Anchor - it's been a favourite watering hole for me since my college days at the Hertfordshire college of building - I used to end up there after drinking my way down fishpool street - start off in the white swan (dirty duck) near market place, then the Harrow, Farriers Arms, Verulam Arms, Old Kings Arms, Lower Red Lion, Portland Arms, Black Lion, then Blue Anchor - if I was thirsty I'd go onto Rose and Crown and Six Bells - then walk down Everlasting Lane to crash out Jenny didn't seem phased by it at all - perhaps there is another Nirvana awaiting Cheers for nice comment about Barton |

Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: Ross Date: 12 Sep 06 - 04:16 AM Hi all Yeah - the Ancient Briton is now a Harvester - there was a big fuss in St Albans about it - the owners did relent to put a smaller sign on the frontage - but now the traffic lights has a sign on them saying it's the Anicient Briton Road Junction Puts you on the woad to success - boom, boom The Blue Anchor is closed for a month for refurbishment and will emerge as a beautiful restaurant pub selling posh nosh Cheers for more nice comments about the Bull |

The other says, "Are you sure?" The first replies, "Yes, I'm positive..." and one for the rest of us : Man with a strawberry stuck up his bum goes to the doc. Doc says "I'll give you some cream to put on it." My husband is obviously not too busy! |

Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: Ross Date: 14 Sep 06 - 10:44 AM Cheers PA I'm going to see Breezy this Sunday - any words of wisdom/advice? Catherine brought me coffee last night after the session; and as she got me soaking wet the last time; by insisting we sat outside; relented to sit inside; as it was pouring down again I sat under a roof leak and got all wet again Catherine told me about her washing machine repair man Evidently - one couple took to canoodling while he carried out his repairs in the house - this happened several times until suddenly a different man appeared Your not the usual man says the cheery washing machine repair man What do you mean said the man - I'm her husband Result - divorce |
Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: The PA Date: 14 Sep 06 - 11:18 AM Re, see Breezy, should that be sea breezy, just say Hi. No advice, but a word of wisdom, if he insists in sitting on Padstow harbour with his back to the water please make sure there is a rail behind. One day somebody is going to trip, and it will all end in a great big splash! and I'd hate his little gnome to get wet. Re divorce: You may recall about 10 years ago a fake 'road rage' case. The couple were parked outside a cottage when the boyfriend was stabbed to death, a man and a woman in the cottage and later had to give witness statements to the police. What a shock the husband had when he read the story in the paper! He was away on business at the time! Think about it? Result - divorce. Maybe Catherine could write a song about it - The ballad of something or other. |
Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: Cathie Date: 14 Sep 06 - 01:15 PM Good idea PA It's when Ross starts practising his Gene Kelly singing-in-the-rain routine that I want to open his guitar case so that passers by will throw money in. |
Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: Ross Date: 15 Sep 06 - 06:17 AM I tried tap dancing But I kept falling in the sink |
Subject: RE: Bull, Barton, Beds - September things From: The PA Date: 15 Sep 06 - 06:51 AM I went to the butchers the other day and I bet him 50 quid that he couldn't reach the meat off the top shelf. He said, 'no, the steaks are too high.' |
