Subject: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: SharonA Date: 06 Dec 02 - 02:26 PM Secret Santa Strikes! Mystery Benefactor Hands Out $50 Bills POSTED: 11:22 a.m. EST December 6, 2002 UPDATED: 11:59 a.m. EST December 6, 2002 FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- A mystery Santa traveling in a stretch white limousine is handing out more than season's greetings. Dressed in a Santa Claus costume, the unidentified woman was giving away crisp $50 bills to surprised recipients at a Seven Corners gas station Friday morning. "Wow, $50! Thank you, Santa," said a surprised Rebecca Smith, who was filing her car with gas when Santa struck. "I'm shocked." The woman refused to give her name and declined to answer any questions when confronted by News4 reporter Brian Mooar. But, the limo driver was able to shed some light. "They just want to be anonymous and hand out these nice gifts," said Pat of the Reston Limousine Service, adding that reaction to the deep-pocketed Santa has been enthusiastic. "Great reactions. Some people have just cried and thanked the lord for this. Most people just can't believe it when you walk up and hand them a $50 bill." A few minutes, and a few $50s later, Santa jumped into the limo and rode off into the sunrise. Her name, identity and mission is still a mystery. Copyright 2002 by nbc4.com. All rights reserved. Subject: RE: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: EBarnacle1 Date: 06 Dec 02 - 03:05 PM It would definitely be good to be in a position to give anonymously with no thought of anything but a simple thank you. Blessings on the anonymous donor. |

Subject: RE: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: SharonA Date: 06 Dec 02 - 03:18 PM Yep, I agree; that lady is showing some true Christmas spirit. Then again, she arrived and left in a limo which must've cost a lot of $50 bills! One can only hope that she's giving some of that leftover money to people who are even more deeply in need than the ones who own cars they can pull up to a gas station! I guess we'll never know... |

Subject: RE: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: Morticia Date: 06 Dec 02 - 03:27 PM think I'd rather have my own secret Mudcat santa, means a lot more to me than anonymous $50 bills. |

Subject: RE: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: Rustic Rebel Date: 06 Dec 02 - 04:48 PM I know of a similar story years ago, down in Santa Cruz, CA. A man was walking down the mall handing all the street people 100.00 dollar bills. I didn't get a chance to meet this man but a friend did, so a bunch of us enjoyed the gift with food and wine. When your busted and broke, and hurtin' for certain, gifts like that are a cherished memory and a good time was had by all! Peace, Rustic |

Subject: RE: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: SINSULL Date: 06 Dec 02 - 05:41 PM I give anonymously all the time. Saves the argument and the inevitable "I can't take this". I passed up a chance for a $20 bill giveaway. A man approached me as he hung out (what will Spaw do with that?) the passenger seat of a double stretch limousine bidding me to come over and take the money. I remembered the first thing my mother taught me - "Don't go near strangers in cars!" and refused. Turned out it was a local radio station promotion. Ah well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Can we all have THIS Secret Santa? From: katlaughing Date: 06 Dec 02 - 05:55 PM A nice way to give anonymously if one is eating out at a drive through is tell the cashier you want to pay for the carload behind you, too. Or, even at a store. I overheard a young mother at a check out stand trying to medicine for her baby. She didn't have enough money and there wasn't a cash machine. It was nighttime and winter. I told my cashier I wanted to pay for it, which she helped facilitate. Granted it wasn't anonymous, but the thank you I received was wonderful. I told her I remembered days like that when my kids were babies, too and to just pass it on. Good feelings and the cashiers about dropped their jaws.:-) |

A little cat did tell us He's just as sweet as pie While stomping round He'll tell you, "here's mud in your eye!"
