Many years ago I had an LP called "Anacreontics-English Drinking Songs". I would like to find out if it's still available, and where I can order it on CD. I haven't had much luck searching Amazon.com, etc.

Don't know that one, but 'English Drinking Songs' sung by A. L. Lloyd, Riverside RLP 12-618, is a gem, but not to the best of my knowledge on CD.

Roberts and Barrand produced an excellent album in 1983: "Eat Bertha's Mussels: Live at Holsteins" It is available on cassette from Andy's Front Hall Records. IT's all you need for a full evening of fun -- and it has Maddy Pryor's Boozing on it too ....

I am looking for all recordings, old & new, which focus on drinking songs or songs about drink (a wider category) from the British Isles & North America.

Robert - 'The Tale of Ale' should still be available as a CD and may contain some of the songs you're looking for. I haven't heard of the album you mention, though.

Robert's question was 2 years ago, so he may not still be around!  Dave Ingle: you might like to try a search through the "Digitrad Lyrics Search" box at the top of this page for @drink, which will return several hundred examples of songs dealing with drink...  (for further hints on searching the databases here, see the FAQ thread at the top of the thread list on the main Forum page.)

Bloody 'ell Bruce, Websters ? yeeach, round here [ Halifax ] the saying was " if the bottom has fallen out of your world,    have a few pints of Websters, and watch the world fall out of your bottom "

It's a brave man who writes a song about Websters.

Topic Records have re-released a number of album on CD & A L Lloyd's English Drinking Songs is one of them. I picked it up, plus a whole mess more from half.com - my new best friend for finding books & albums, 'cause out here in the "boonies", there ain't much if you're not into malls or Walmart.

Of course, if you can actually buy from the performer - that's the best way to go. Cut out the middleman, but that's only practical at the festivals. And I only get to make a few of them each year.

I love my livestock, but it's dang hard getting babysitters for the bulls.
