You know, I dislike birthday threads almost as much as Joe Offer. Wait a minute, that doesn't sound right. I mean I dislike birthday threads almost as much as Joe Offer dislikes them, not that I dislike Joe Offer almost as much as I dislike birthday threads. I like Joe Offer, I just don't like birthday threads. They make me uncomfortable.

See, it's usually hard to be witty or say something truly meaningful on a birthday thread. How many ways can you say "Happy Birthday!"? But it's bad manners to ignore someone's birthday completely, right?

So, here's the deal: If you will be having a birthday at some time during 2008, this thread is my birthday greeting to you. Happy birthday! Now I'm off the hook!

If you will not be having a birthday at some time during 2008, this thread is my message of condolence to your family. OBIT threads make me even more uncomfortable than birthday threads. Happy afterlife!

I am not sure telling Rapaire not to be greedy is an effective stratagem, Bruce. I think of the number of times I have told not to be certain other things he was being, to no avail. None. I might as well have been talking to a brick wall. Come to think of it, maybe I was.

My birthday won't be coming around until one week into November. I suppose that means that my odds of enjoying both a b-day and an obit thread in 2008 are a little less than 2 in 12 (i.e., 1-to-6 ~ or is that 6-to-1? I don't spend enough time at the racetrack to remember which is the correct order).

Maybe calculating in terms of weeks rather than months would be more accurate. I'd have to die in the final 7 weeks of the year to be honored by threads of both types, making the odds 7:52 (or, if you prefer, 45:52). Unless 52:7 or 52:45 is the more statistically appropriate form.
