Subject: Lyr Req: I Can Brew From: GUEST,Celtaddict Date: 25 Feb 20 - 02:00 PM I have recently heard a parody based on 'I Can Hew' about making beer. It cleverly uses many of the sounds and words of the original, which makes it a much higher quality parody in my opinion. It starts out, I can brew, boys, I can mash it out, I can brew the beer, lager, ale and stout, and has lines including the son who will join in. Has anyone run across this? (not found in DT) |

Subject: ADD: Huge (Breitag and Hodapp) From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Feb 20 - 08:51 PM I thought my parody-loving friend David would have this, but he didn't. He had another, though: HUGE (by Linda Breitag and Ted Hodapp) CHORUS: I am huge boys, I am fat and stout, I am huge, boys, I have got the gout. I am huge, boys, big as any man, But to tie my shoes, I don't think I can. Well, with Mondays off, I don't have a care, When I sits at home by the Frigidaire. Then it's down to MacDonald's for a Big Mac or two For to skip a meal, that would never do. Well my boy's three-fourteen; he's a strappin' lad, And he'll go through the floor soon just like his dad. And when Friday comes, we'll hit the buffet, And we'll gorge together to round off the day. Well I likes my Twinkies and my layered cake And my gooey donuts on my coffee break. I think exercise is a noble cause So I bend and stretch for my Hogan Dazs*. And it's when I'm dead, oh I know full well, They will roll me down to the gates of Hell. And my fork and spoon Ol' Nick he will admire, And he'll set me to making s'mores by his own hell fire. *Häagen-Dazs??? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Can Brew From: cnd Date: 27 Mar 20 - 02:51 PM I looked again and couldn't find anything. Did your email ever get a response, positive or negative? I tried leaving a comment on their website but it said it would have to await moderation. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Can Brew From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 29 Mar 20 - 07:03 PM Lets go back to the basics: RE: I have recently heard a parody based on 'I Can Hew' about making beer. Who are YOU? Why do you want the lyrics? (it is cute, and I would like them too) WHERE did you hear the lyrics? Geographic HOW did you hear the song? Live, Recorded MORE snippets? catch phrases .................. Sincerely, Gargoyle I believe this is a bogus request. Extensive searches ..... and I found zilch. If it has not been written or recorded...it is certainly one for "Weird Al Yankovich". |
Subject: Lyr Add: I Can Brew (Coffee) Bill Owens From: cnd Date: 16 Apr 20 - 09:23 PM Well, I heard back from the folks over at Syracuse Pub Sing (my fault for the delay--I missed their response!), and sadly, their version of "I Can Brew" is not the same one shared here. But, the writer, Bill Owens, did share with me his version of the song, which is very entertaining in its own right. He agreed to let me share the lyrics here for everyone's enjoyment. In the email, he explained that he wrote it "after being inspired by the fact that singers these days were much more familiar with coffee than coal." I Can Brew (Bill Owens) I can brew, boys, I can pour it out, I can grind the beans, I can dance and shout. I can brew, boys, java black and fine, I’m a coffee lad servin’ folks in line. On Saint Monday’s Day I drag myself from bed, with my aching feet and my throbbing head. Then I brew a pot and drink a cup or two, I’ve got folks to serve ‘cause they hate Mondays too. Chorus Well I likes my whisky and I likes my beer, but at four AM my head they won’t clear. It’s the coffee bean, roasted - finely ground, that’s the only thing that makes my heart pound. Chorus Got this job at fourteen, that’s a tender age. Been here ever since earning minimum wage. I’ll keep brewing here even at low pay, ‘cause I drink my weight in coffee ev’ry day. Chorus I’ll be at my post till the day I drop, but don’t write me off if my heart should stop. Though you think I’m dead it’s caffeine that I lack, an espresso shot will bring me right back! Chorus |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Can Brew From: cnd Date: 20 Nov 24 - 09:36 PM Finally found this one! Here's my transcription of a performance on Facebook (link) by vocal harmony group Windborne. I'll post the full text of the Facebook post below. A little disappointing after all this searching that there's scarcely more of the song than included by the original poster. * * * * * Windborne - October 2nd, 2019 [SOUND ON] for a special song we wrote during sound check for our show tonight at Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham WA! ?????? #icanbrew 7pm in the Mountain Room -- Come on down! Well I likes my whiskey and I likes my beer I'll drink 14 pints and I'll still feel queer I can hold my liquor well as any man And I'll sing and dance as long as I can I can brew, boys, I can mash it out I can brew the beer: lager, ale, and stout I can brew, boys, ale that's golden fine I'm a brewer, lad, on the bottling line |
