////Wrong! You don't OWN any thread here.////

You don't do yourself any favors bitching and whining to me. If people here are tired of me, they have to be equally tired of you arguing with me. It's going nowhere so keep it up if that's what floats your little boat.

Repeating the N-word or the c-word just because someone else said it is still poor taste and I for one would prefer you didnt use it all. There are kids and women on these threads who don't need to be exposed to that kind of classless behavior. Go back to youtube if you want to write that kind of stuff.
You seem to need a lot of attention, did you not get enought love as a child?

That was lame not to mention unintelligible. As my old chemistry professor used to say, "Try it again for a D."

////Repeating the N-word or the c-word just because someone else said it is still poor taste and I for one would prefer you didnt use it all.////

And I prefer you to stop posting me altogether but we both know that's not going to happen, don't we?

////There are kids and women on these threads who don't need to be exposed to that kind of classless behavior./////

Stop being patronizing. There's no kids here except maybe you.

////Go back to youtube if you want to write that kind of stuff.////

I don't write that stuff on youtube.

////You seem to need a lot of attention, did you not get enought love as a child?///

And you seem to want to give me attention that I truly won't miss if you were to stop.

"I don't write that stuff on youtube"

Why here, then? It's no less offensive and it's likely that anyone who has been to YouTube is already aware of it, particularly if they have posted stuff there.

All of the other potty mouthed selfish mental children who used to be here and got run out of here on a rail started off like you are now.

Keep it up and you will end up the same, you self centered child. And by your own admission, you do not even have the musical talent that the best of the others had even at one time in their past, which they used to beg to not be banned.

"There's no kids here except maybe you"

Since you are new here, you are not aware of the past problems with having sites put on block lists due to 'language issues'.

"That was lame not to mention unintelligible. As my old chemistry professor used to say, "Try it again for a D."

Thus you reveal yourself as a selfish immature puerile individuals, who pulls the Troll stunt of pretending not to understand what you do not want to.

And no one who has lived thru past experiences with people like you is going to shut up to let a selfish potty mouth bully like you run riot here.

You are now on notice Son.

Facebook will soon share users' phone numbers and addresses with 3rd parties

By Brett Michael Dykes

It's been a while since we've had an uproar over Facebook's handling of its users personal information, so we suppose the time is ripe.

So cue the online outrage: Facebook announced today in a letter to Congress that the social-media platform is moving forward with plans to give third parties access to user information, such as phone numbers and home addresses.

Ok - so this is a thread entitled "youtube and decency"

riight - so the OP is likely to be posting something about youtube ...

... and looking at how decency gets on on youtube ...

... without looking, I have a pretty goood idea that its not going to be singing Youtubes praises, because in my experience, a lot of what goes on on youtube is pretty indecent .. whether it be peoples videos or their comments.

So Before I opened this thread, I huesssed it would contain some example of indecency on youtube, and an opinion or a sentiment about it.

And thats what I found ... a reaction to some of the outrageous stuff that is written in the comments on youtube.

The reason I say all this, is that it seems, judging by peoples reactions to Josepp, that they were surprised to read that he had experience of youtube indecency, and surprised that he expressed his honest reaction to it.

The only thing I can't work ot is - what were you all expecting?

You're like a bunch of grumpy grown ups telling some kkid to stop bugging you with his questions ....

But what you miss is that Josepp is making some really interesting, current and challenging points.

1. Levels of Racism are dangerously high.

Youtube evidences this strongly.

On the way, he refers to some interesting ideas like the following ... there is a current view, that if you wish to refer to the word nigger, you should do so honestly and say it.

The rationale behind this is that if I say "the N word" to you, then I put the word "nigger" into your mind, and make it your responsibility, whilst avoiding responsibility for referring to it.

If I choose to refer to it, it is a choice that I should take full responsibility for.

Now, I don't know whether I agree with this or not, as I am sure that there are contexts where this 'rule' is inappropriate - for example when talking to an elderly black man ...

... but it is an interesting development in humanities progress away from the days of institutionalized dehumaniization.

The only problem I have with Josepps OP is that it doesn't provide a link to his hopeful warblings - I for one would like to listen and judge for myself.

Lox...levels of racism have always been dangerously high. I mean always...since the beginning of recorded history if not before.

The Internet simply allows people to anonymously express all the antisocial crap they wouldn't have dared to express directly to people face-to-face before or in print with their name on it before, that's all. That's why you see so much of it on Youtube and elsewhere on the Net. It isn't because there's more of it now than there used to be, it's because it's now safe for the most immature lunkheads among us to flaunt their gross immaturity for all to see, and so they do. They do not have to fear any consequences.

Similarly, it's safe for people now to access all the pornography they could possibly want to via the Internet, and they do. They can do it in complete anonymity, at no expense, with no consequences, so they do it, of course.

Whether this is bad or good remains to be seen. On the one hand, it gives frustrated people an outlet for whatever's bothering them. On the other hand, it may weaken them and damage their general character in various ways, as well as causing a lot of anger to other people.

I'm not sure how it balances out...on the positive or the negative side...but I'll say this: dealing with it and overcoming its negative possibilities can be a very useful exercise in personal growth. That is, if you can learn how to avoid getting hijacked and drawn into all the negativity, and learn how to control your own formerly out-of-control reactions to it....then you will have grown as a person.

I think that could be seen as an opportunity rather than a threat.

LH please try not to be so patronizing.

The point is that it is MUCH worse than people think.

It isn't something you hear about now and then, it is RIFE.

This goes against most peoples belief that the bad old days are over.

Josepp is 100% right to find this concerning, and the day we become desensetized to it is a day we should dread.

You might find it a tired old subject, but its as important today as it was 'before recorded history'

John P,

When you say "Experience, learn, move on."

Do you mean observe, note in diary and ignore?

or observe, investigate and confront?

In my book "learn" means "face up to"

and "Move on" means "deal with it".

So if you criticize your country because it isn't as good a place as it could be does that mean you shouldn't support it? It is because I love my country that I criticize it endlessly. It's the same with anything that you love--when it isn't as good as it could easily be, you offer a critique because you know it can be better sna should be better. I love visiting youtube but it has problems because a handful of morons have an inordinate amount of influence--one guy can turn a civil, intelligent thread into a flame-war disaster--then I criticize it.

Youtube is extremely useful, a vast depository of music and other forms of art. A great place to get exposure for your music or your ideas. But it has problems--problems that can be fixed if the people there would just fix them.

Agreed, josepp. Now, do you feel that you or I can do anything about it? If so, what?

It looks to me like the people who own and manage Youtube (I presume someone does...) don't want to do anything about it. Or perhaps they don't know how to do anything about it without hiring a lot of staff as moderators...and that would cost them money.

I used to get pissed off at all the stupid comments on Youtube, but eventually I realized that my getting pissed off was simply putting me in a bad mood and screwing up part of my day...but not in any way affecting the people who were pissing me off.

So I decided to just ignore them and save myself the trouble of getting in a lousy mood over stuff I can't change (meaning: I can't change other people)

I do feel that I have a responsibility to help make the world a kinder place. And I do that by trying to act decently and kindly myself. That's where my responsibility kicks in, and that's the point where I can actually really DO something.

I cannot do something about immature kids who want to post nasty comments on Youtube.

"Agreed, josepp. Now, do you feel that you or I can do anything about it? If so, what?"

Your impplication seems to be - if you can't do anything about it, stop moaning.

In fact, raising the issue IS doing SOMETHING.

The more people who are aware of the issue and who have a view on it, the more it becomes a debate.

Slow incremental, but inevitable.

Finding a buddhist way to accept it and get over it is not the only solution and could be viewed as a selfish ssolution - as if to say "as long as I don't feel troubled by the problem then thats what is important. ..."

No, Lox, I'm not suggesting that anyone else stop moaning about it. If you or Josepp want to moan about anything at all, feel absolutely free to do so. ;-) It's not that I am suggesting Josepp DO anything....but I am honestly asking what Josepp expects me and others here to do about this upsetting situation on Youtube.

On the other hand, if he's just venting because it makes him feel better and he expects us to do nothing, that's fine with me too.

I don't really care one way or the other. I came to this thread for exactly the same reason my buddy Raptor did....and THIS is the reason....

Are you ready?

You sure?

I came here because this thread is funny! ;-) Damn funny. And I keep coming here because it provides me with further amusement. Don't make the mistake of imagining I have any serious stake in what happens on this thread or any desire or need to make Josepp do or stop doing anything whatsoever. Nor am I concerned as to what he does. I am strictly here for the laughs.

And I expect there will be quite a few more of them shortly. In fact, I'm certain of it.

Well if you were drawn here by the humour, why the long boring lifestyle lectures?

Well said, LH, but it would seem that not everyone fully appreciates the shafts of wit among their Spooneresque counterparts.

Well, Lox...I don't find my long lifestyle lectures boring, that's why. ;-) If I did find them boring, I'd do something else instead.

I like to talk. ;-) It gives me something to do, and it's fun. It seems self-evident to me that that is exactly why almost everyone else who posts here frequently does so. Same as me. They like to talk. This place gives them a wonderful opportunity to do so. It's always waiting there like a faithful dog.
