I'm starting a new thread because it got distorted because os Velez Sarsfield. I'm sorry, can anyone help me, please. I am an Argentine English teacher seeking information (not lyrics - I've got them)about this song. Anything will be of value to me. My students listened to it and couldn't believe so many historical references of our history in an Irish(?) song, and started asking about author, when it was written, why and only then did I realise I knew nothing about it. Looks to have been written since the Falklands War, probably by one of the Wolfe Tones themselves. A cynic would reckon the point is anti-"Brit" rather than pro-Malvinas.

Don't give up yet. I am sure there is a Wolfe Tones fan out there that will know all the answers. Although I suspect that Martin has said most, if not all of the answer and there might not be anything else?

Why don't you write to Brian Warfield? He is their main songwriter and probably wrote the song. Contact him via their website, they must have one somewhere.

Brian lives in Brittas, Co. Wicklow. A letter addressed to him at the town may well reach him. He may even be in the phone book.

I've got two (both?) Wolfe Tones songbooks, and, sadly, the Admiral William Brown isn't in either of them. A search for "admiral william brown" on teoma.com turned up 31 hits, and a similar search of google gave 150 hits, most of which appear to be different than those from teoma. I suggest you try google first.

I felt so bad when I read "Still alive in Argentina" which is completely true and worse. I live in the province of Buenos Aires and the air has turned unbreathable. We are all on the alert for revolt. But I still try to go on teaching at school thought my salary will be reduced abiut 50%(it already has, and not only mine) teachers have been struggling for better conditions and salaries for the last at least 10 years. Everything we got by law, we lost by decree. We get paid with Patacones, but at least get paid, late (20-25 the following month) in some other provinces they haven't got their salaries since Dec-Jan. Anyway, as the thread says we're Still Alive in Argentina. Bye

Claudia, you're most welcome. / Maybe the Wolfetones, who have been plausibly described as the official entertainment corps of the Irish Republican Army, have "decommissioned" their e-mail addresses under the Northern Ireland peace agreements. :) Hopefully you'll reach them though. They may be on tour now (check schedule on the website)---the 3 who still perform together, minus Derek Warfield who has left.
