Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: Ireland Date: 17 Nov 02 - 12:18 PM Thanks Joe, I tried the site and a few others came up with Cat in the Cradle but I don't think thats it. It is a great song too. |

Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: Ireland Date: 17 Nov 02 - 01:43 PM Sorry I have the tune in my head and trying to put a name to it is driving me that little bit more nuttier. |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 02 - 02:04 PM No help Ireland, but "Cat's Cradle" is as you said, a good song and one that has a special meaning to me. When Karen and I decided I would quit my job as a travelling sales rep to be a stay-at-home Dad, I wrote a resignation letter to the very conservative company I worked for saying that I didn't want my life or my son's to end up like a Harry Chapin song lyric.........They had NO idea what I was talking about. Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: mmb Date: 17 Nov 02 - 02:34 PM Harry used to close his concerts with a song about all of life being a circle, and everyone playing a part. I can't recall either a lyric or a piece of the melody, but I'll let it roll around in my subconscious and see if it surfaces. M. |
Subject: Lyr Add: ALL MY LIFE'S A CIRCLE (Harry Chapin) From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 02 - 02:43 PM It's a possibility!!!! All My Life's a Circle by Harry Chapin All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown The moon rolls through the night time Till the day break comes around All my life's a circle, but I can't tell you why The seasons spinning round again The years keep rolling by. It seems like I've been here before, I can't remember when But I got this funny feeling That we'll all be together again There's no straight lines that make up my life And all my roads have bends There's no clear cut beginnings, and so far no dead ends. I've found you a thousand times, I guess you've done the same But then we'll lose each other It's just like children's games As I see you here again, the thought runs through my mind Our friendships like a circle, Let's go round one more time. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: sed Date: 17 Nov 02 - 02:48 PM All my life's a circle; sunrise and sundown; moon rose through the nighttime till the day break comes aroound. all my life's a circle; I can't tell you why. season's spinnin' round again; years keep rollin' by. I remember the rest if that's the right song. Pete Seeger sang this for several seasons too and got a great response. I remember Pete's saying we lost a good friend in Harry (after Harry was killed in that accident). |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: mmb Date: 17 Nov 02 - 02:52 PM Thanks, 'Spaw! Now, if only someone can come up with John Wilcox's "The Bowry" as quickly . . . (See Eric Bogle lyric request.) Compulsively, M. : ) |

Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: Ireland Date: 17 Nov 02 - 06:11 PM Thanks all for your help, Spaw I do not think it was the song I'm thinking about but any thing from Harry Chapin is worth reading and learning, I was about 13-14 when I first heard him on the radio, he was unique. His Cat in the Cradle song really does reach out to me pretty much in the same way it has to you, using it as a reminder(can't get the right phrase) of what is important in life. To really peeve everyone I now remember it was Cat in the cradle after all, the ad was showing some thug carrying out a hit and his son seeing it, I'm gonna be like you dad in the background. The violence was putting me off, I could not relate the two. |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: Susanne (skw) Date: 17 Nov 02 - 09:08 PM Glad you found out, Ireland! Not knowing the ad I couldn't really imagine it and the song going together, but they do after all. |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: Liz the Squeak Date: 18 Nov 02 - 03:03 AM Hey Spaw, I know the feeling... I keep quoting Flanders and Swann lyrics at work and they have no idea what I'm on about.... favourite one is to do the whole calendar song (January brings the snow...) and they all look at me like I grew another head! And these are people who are OLDER than me! LTS |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: EBarnacle1 Date: 18 Nov 02 - 03:46 PM Tom Chapin [Harry's brother] still closes all his songs with "All my life's as circle." He says that the family has adopted it as an anthem. |
Subject: RE: Harry Chapin song From: Just Amy Date: 18 Nov 02 - 03:54 PM I saw Harry Chapin at a concert at University of Illinois in the early 70's. He was awesome. The cost - 50 cents. There is a boxed set of CD's of his recordings available. I think through Warner Records. |
