Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: SINSULL Date: 15 Apr 08 - 09:07 AM I ran into Tami and the Curly Haired Boy at Hannaford's last night. They had Bandit and Joey with them. Tami has mixed feelingsabout the interview which is good. She will evaluate the pros and cons and do what makes sense. Tami is the most sensible person I know. So...counting down to Friday. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 18 Apr 08 - 07:40 AM Good morning all you lovely people! I have three hours until my interview. Thanks for the well-wishing. I will pop in briefly afterwards before heading to work and let you know how it went. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 18 Apr 08 - 12:00 PM looks like I might have to wait till tomorrow morning sandra (almost heading off to bed, cos it's almost 2am here) |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 18 Apr 08 - 12:06 PM I have NO idea how it went! It was by far the easiest and shortest interview I have had in my 21 years of working in parks. Bryan, the ranger (and friend) who interviewed for the position just ahead of me told me to relax, that it was a "nice" interview. We'll see. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: gnu Date: 18 Apr 08 - 02:45 PM I hope they "see." Any idea about the sched? |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: TRUBRIT Date: 19 Apr 08 - 09:50 PM Let us know -- one is holding one;s breath and that gets wearing after a while....Get this job Tami -- and we will find you a house to buy!!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: gnu Date: 21 Apr 08 - 02:10 PM Sorry.... I am on pins and needles about this. Any idea on when you get the (GOOD!) news? |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 24 Apr 08 - 07:16 PM Official word arrived in the mail today in the form of the nicest rejection letter I've ever received. Truth be told, I wasn't sure I wanted the job in the first place and was pretty certain I didn't after the interview. Thus, it was with a bit of relief that I learned that a former co-worker who was a bit more qualified got the job. I learned unofficially that I was #2 in the running and that if Bryan had declined the job, it would have been offered to me. Bryan leaves a year-round job that I would love, but probably wouldn't get. I'm going for it as soon as it's posted anyway. So, glass is very much half full here. Thanks so much for all the well-wishing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: gnu Date: 24 Apr 08 - 07:56 PM Well, uh. Glad you didn't get it. I'll drink to that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 24 Apr 08 - 09:49 PM best wishes for the next application & interview sandra (half-full glasses are much better for the soul than half-empty ones) |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 18 May 08 - 07:03 PM Dropped off the application for Bryan's job on Thursday. I'd love the job, but I don't think I'll get it. First clue was when the manager looked at me and said: "you do realize this is a very physical job, right?" Sometimes being female and of small stature can be a pain in the ass. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: SINSULL Date: 18 May 08 - 07:11 PM You should have picked him up and tossed him across the room then added "Is that physical enough for you?" Maybe not. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Jeri Date: 18 May 08 - 07:15 PM You got an interview? Arm wrestle the guy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Big Al Whittle Date: 18 May 08 - 07:20 PM best of luck Ranger! |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 19 May 08 - 02:01 AM well done for getting you application in - fooey to the sexist remarks from the manager. sandra I've had a bookmark since the 70's - Mona Lisa wearing overalls, hammer in her hand, tools in her top pocket - The best man for the job is often a woman! |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: maeve Date: 19 May 08 - 03:50 AM You show remarkable strength of character in allowing the speaker of such an inappropriate comment to retain the use of his legs. Go Tami! Love, maeve |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 19 May 08 - 08:07 AM Thanks for all the nice things you are saying. My response to his comment was: "Um, yes, I do know that, I worked here for three seasons under the former manager." and let it at that. The really funny thing is, all the trails at that park are wide enough to get an all-terrain vehicle on and I have to use a wheelbarrow at my current park. Not to mention I know where things are in his shop better than he does. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: jacqui.c Date: 19 May 08 - 08:34 AM Maybe this guy needs you working at his park, if only to show him that pre-conceived notions are not a good idea. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 21 May 08 - 07:10 PM My interview is scheduled for 8:30AM Mudcat Time on Friday. I know of one other person who has applied, and he is a)male and b)bigger and burlier than I am. I'm not holding out much hope. But I would love that job! |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: curmudgeon Date: 21 May 08 - 07:53 PM "you do realize this is a very physical job, right?" I can't believe that this idiot really said that! If it's not in the job description, ie., "must be able to lift xx lbs, run xx miles, leap tall bldgs at a single bound, etc." he's opened himself and the state up for serious litigation. Do check this out with Tom C. White light coming your way on Friday, and btw, thanks for the pic; silly is good - Tom |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: katlaughing Date: 21 May 08 - 10:46 PM Be careful with your thoughts and words that you don't psych your subconscious into believing it can't happen. Ya never know what might take over the guy's brain and make him see reason, i.e. better give a woman a chance or go to court!**bg** Best thoughts for this or something better for the highest good of all concerned! kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: TRUBRIT Date: 21 May 08 - 11:01 PM I agree with Curmudgeon -- to say something so blatantly sexist is a) stupid and b) illegal......if you don't get it I really would suggest talking to Tom....I just read this thread to him and he was muttering -- Human Rights Commission....... |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: wysiwyg Date: 22 May 08 - 10:13 AM I have to use a wheelbarrow at my current park ... can become a throwaway line that may sink into the "she's the best" part of the interviewer's mindset: "I use a wheelbarrow at my current park, where it's not unusual to handle [top weight] loads." Show 'em yer muscles, girl! :~) ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: jacqui.c Date: 22 May 08 - 02:32 PM Good luck Tami - and yes, do talk to Tom. Lots of very positive thoughts coming your way and when the Junior Witch gets here (late tonight) I'll make sure she's on the job as well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ClaireBear Date: 22 May 08 - 02:43 PM There's an ursine witch on the job here in California, growling good-luck spells onto our east-bound breezes...winds are high here today, so with luck they will cross the continent in plenty of time. Best thoughts! Claire |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 23 May 08 - 01:53 PM Well, it's over and done. I think it went well, just depends on who else applied. I know the other person on the interview team very well, he's the person who initially hired me 21 years ago. He once told me: "Brains are better than brawn, if you have the brains, you can find a way to do it without the brawn." It was a comfortable interview, the only real sticking point may be that I feel obligated to my current manager to finish up the school season, as he scheduled groups with the thought that he's have both of us available to do the programs. I did suggest that perhaps I could work mornings at Wolfe's Neck and then go to Bradbury for the rest of the day until schools are out. Anyway, it may be a moot point, but I did a pretty good job selling myself with the "Why do you think you are the best candidate for this job?" question. Thanks for all the good vibes sent out and received. I'll let you know as soon as I find out anything. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Jun 08 - 01:33 PM I've just had a call from Tami who has been asked to go talk to the manager about the job. She is hoping that this is a positive thing as otherwise he would have just sent a ding letter or told her on the phone that it was a no go. Lots of good vibes right now please! |
