Subject: Kendall's CD From: kendall Date: 28 Nov 00 - 03:16 PM Well spaw and all, you talked me into it. I just made a deal with Outer Green Records to make a limited number of CDs of Beginners Luck. They will be special edition without fancy graphics to keep the cost down. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Wesley S Date: 28 Nov 00 - 03:35 PM Will they be out in time to put in our stockings?? And where should we tell Santa to look for them? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Jim Krause Date: 28 Nov 00 - 03:37 PM Awright! Ain't it neat when ya got yer own material out on disc? Hotdawg! Where can I git one? Jim |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: SINSULL Date: 28 Nov 00 - 03:37 PM Neat. I want one for my Dad. I prefer LPs myself. Congratulations, Kendall. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 28 Nov 00 - 03:38 PM I hope within two weeks. And they will be available only through me for the time being This will be a limited run, so, in order to keep the cost down, we will be doing away with the fancy art work and printing. I expect the price to be around $12.00. That will include package and postage (I hope) |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Rick Fielding Date: 28 Nov 00 - 05:36 PM Don't fergit my radio copy. It's been difficult to make you a star in Toronto with the cassettes. My engineer (Duckboots) refuses to wind and rewind! Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 28 Nov 00 - 06:00 PM I figure its easier for me to get a CD than it is for you to get a new wife! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: bill\sables Date: 28 Nov 00 - 06:39 PM Kendal the tape was great so you must keep a CD for me Bill |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Morticia Date: 28 Nov 00 - 06:59 PM I'd like one too, kendall, can you make arrangements for us UK'ers? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 28 Nov 00 - 07:17 PM If someone could explain how to do that, what with the conversion of money and all?? Postage to the UK is a bit steep too...but, we will find a way :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Morticia Date: 28 Nov 00 - 07:22 PM I'll happily pay postage....just work out a conversion rate for dollars into pounds........or vice versa, and I'll dib up what ever is necessary. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 28 Nov 00 - 08:23 PM When it is finally ready to market, we will get down to details. I will see to it that everyone who wants one shall get it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Troll Date: 28 Nov 00 - 08:39 PM Yeah Kendall, I guess you'd better put me down for one. Us curmudgeons gotta stick together. Be an awful lot of trouble breakin in someone new to argue politics with and you may need the extra money so's you won't freeze this winter. *heh heh* troll |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Nancy Brown Date: 28 Nov 00 - 08:45 PM I'm sorry, but I seem to be the only one around here who doesn't know The Kendalls. What kind of music is your CD? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 28 Nov 00 - 08:57 PM Nancy, its just one Kendall, but surely he will reveal his true self. For anyone wanting to do money conversions try this. http://www.xe.net/ucc/ |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Wavestar Date: 28 Nov 00 - 08:59 PM More than one Kendall? How terrifying. Kendall does (to my understanding) stories of a comic nature, and folk songs in a voice I'm told is heartbreaking. Can't beat those Mainiacs. I'm sure he'd be better at describing himself. -J |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Rick Fielding Date: 28 Nov 00 - 09:16 PM You mean you aren't Royce Kendall??!! All this time I thought I was talking to that famous Country singer with his cute singin' daughter...and now I find out you're just another folksinger? Do ya sing any Oasis, or led Zepelin? Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 28 Nov 00 - 09:52 PM very little, if any. I'm only famous among those who know me...if you want to check me out, there are two web sites... www.mainehumor.com and the Folk Legacy site. I really appreciate the interest. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 29 Nov 00 - 12:28 PM Sorry Rick..I forgot about the Kendalls. But, I had that name long before they did. I'll do better, honestly I will. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 29 Nov 00 - 04:41 PM Good news! I just got an e mail from my friend at Outer Green Records, and he says my CDs will be ready late next week. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Jim Krause Date: 29 Nov 00 - 06:25 PM Morticia I sent a guy in Scotland a copy of my CD. Told him the price in US$, not knowing how in the world to figure out the exchange rate etc. I just sent him the disc, and lo and behold, a week later, here came the money in crisp US bills. I don't know how he did it. In the enclosed note, he said it was a lot easier than some sort of international checque. A bad way to do business, sending the merchandise and then waiting for payment, I admit. But this time I trusted my instincts. Jim Krause |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 01 Dec 00 - 09:02 PM Why is this a big deal? I've had a CD by the Kendalls for years. "Love Is Just A Sin Away" has always been one of my favorite honky-tonk country songs. Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Little Neophyte Date: 01 Dec 00 - 10:10 PM Mazel Tov Kendall, this is good news. You should call yourself Sir Kendallot so you don't get mixed up with the Kendals. If you create a band you could call yourselves Sir Kendallot & The Brave Knights. Little Neo |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 02 Dec 00 - 04:26 PM Yes Art..I should have gone the CD route in the first place. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 02 Dec 00 - 08:09 PM And I never should've made any cassettes of my CD. I'm still trying to figure out ways to turn them into furniture for the house. Art |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Uncle Jaque Date: 20 Dec 00 - 11:26 PM Kendall: I'm just full of questions tonight; Is there anyplace in the local (Freeport/Yarmouth) area to obtain your CD? For mail order - where do we send the check? Could you post a list of songs on the CD here? Are you going to be around for the "Chantey Swap" on the 27th? I'll bet if you had a stack of 'em there you might move a few. I also wouldn't be surprised if Cpt. Steve took a few to carry at China Seas - and I bet he'd move 'em for you, too! Re. the cassettes: I'm always open to really good deals on cassettes; my '91 Voyager is equipped with a cassette player and I do love to crank up those tunes, don't ye know! Also, most of my sound equipment tends to be of rather primitive technology, coming from the Yarmouth Dump or yard sales like it does, and we only own one CD player - a portable at that.. I frequently "back up" favorite CDs onto tape (editing out the obligatory clunker tracks) so I can listen to them in the van. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Liam's Brother Date: 20 Dec 00 - 11:39 PM It'll be Christmas... er... I mean HOLIDAY soon and, just for insurance in case no one buys me a Holiday present, I'd like to get one of your CDs, Kendall. Just tell me how. All the best, Dan |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Wolfgang Date: 21 Dec 00 - 07:23 AM I've never been disappointed yet when I bought a CD from a Mudcatter (Liam's brother, Martin Ryan, Art Thieme and Rick Fielding so far), so I think I'll jump this time too. However, a tracklist could help me deciding for a yes. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: JedMarum Date: 21 Dec 00 - 08:23 AM Put me on the list, Kendall, I want one too! Have you decided if/where/how to sell 'em on-line? amazon.com, cdbaby.com and cdnow all have programs for selling independents. They ain't cheap, but they do all the work - so it may be worth considering. |

I will have some at the shanty sing 3.At this time, I dont expect to have them in stores, because, I'm not making enough of them to make it worth the effort.Another reason, these are tailor made, limited edition, and, too expensive to leave any room for a store to make anything.
Play list: Then, a collection of traditional Maine humor, mixed with my own observations. (Yes, the accent is quite real) |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: dick greenhaus Date: 04 Jan 01 - 09:33 PM Ken- You're experiencing the frustration of trying to sell to Mudcatters. Ask Sandy about it. Or ask me. (sigh) |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST Date: 04 Jan 01 - 09:51 PM Well Kendall, these Mudcat people are think that you're their friend and that you're going to give it to them as a gift. "Oh Kendall, you mean we have to pay for it? Well maybe next month then." Dick, I get much better deals and much better service from CDnow. Maybe frustrating for you, but not for me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST Date: 05 Jan 01 - 09:05 AM How about if we all send two bits to Matt_R so he can buy Kendall's CD and upload it to Napster for the rest of us to grab for free. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: MMario Date: 05 Jan 01 - 09:29 AM kendall - I may have missed it, but I haven't seen an address or anything where we CAN order your CD. I don't think I'm on your list, but it's on my "wish list" and if the back pay we've been promised at work comes through before my car breaks down again, I would like to order.
|
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Billy In Buffalo Date: 05 Jan 01 - 09:40 AM There you go Kendall. MMario will order one IF bla bla bla BEFORE bla bla bla. A Mudcat promise if I ever heard one. Here's my Mudcat promise. IF I don't have to pay the kid next door to shovel snow for the rest of the winter, I'll order one for me and one for MMario. Billy In Buffalo |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Rick Fielding Date: 05 Jan 01 - 12:39 PM Well remember Kendall "If you build it, they will come". Just got my radio copy, and it sounds great. I'll start spinnin' it this week. Have patience. Sandy, and Art (and quite a few more of us here) will have to live 12 lifetimes to sell as much as Phil Ochs does in a month (and he's dead!) Now Gordon Bok's another story! Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Elvis Presley Date: 05 Jan 01 - 12:48 PM I sell more CDs every hour than Phil Ochs does in a month. |

They cost me $9.40 for this first batch because of the studio time and all. I have to get $12.00 for them, and that INCLUDES postage and package. I ernestly hope that none of you is $12.00 from being broke! |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 17 Jan 01 - 08:59 AM At meal time, my mother used to say "Come and get it..first come, first served and the devil take the hindmost" |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: GUEST,Uncle Jaque Date: 18 Jan 01 - 06:25 AM Kendall; Did u ever hear back from Cpt. Steve? I bet he might move a passel of your CDs, especially when the Summer Complaints get moseyin' around the Ol' Port! A co worker brought in some stories / jokes etc. from her late Grandmother's archives - she lived in Weld ME and was a real piece of work. Looks like some good ol Down East material you could use - I read a couple of em at the old folks home where Mom resides, and they liked em - would love to hear your rendition. We do enjoy "Luck" as did a couple of colleagues, one of whom wants one for her Dad who still resides in Weld. I'm bringing your addr. in today. Still in Fla? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 18 Jan 01 - 08:04 AM I'm not in Florida. No, I havn't heard from Steve. I only had a few cd's made, mostly at the request of about a dozen mudcatters. I still have some, but, not enough to put into a store. On the other hand, I'm up to my ass in cassettes! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Midchuck Date: 18 Jan 01 - 09:03 AM Heck, we're up to our asses in CDs and cassettes - 'tho we did just hit break-even on the first recording, which I guess doesn't often happen on a first, privately-produced, recording. Buy Kendall's record. It's worth it for "Mrs. Ravoon" alone. Then go out and make more money so you can buy ours. Peter. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 19 Jan 01 - 02:14 PM This reminds me of the guy who was so bad as an actor that he had a hard time getting roles, and, when he did, he was paid what he was worth..peanuts. His wife said "Go get a real job." he replied "What! and give up show business"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Midchuck Date: 19 Jan 01 - 02:40 PM H. Allen Smith had another one with the same identical punch line, but in his, the guy worked in a menagerie, shoveling up the elephant sh...ahh, cleaning up after the elephants. He comes home and complains to his wife that they got some more elephants, and he just can't keep up, and it's wearing him out, and she suggests he quit and retire. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: black walnut Date: 15 Feb 01 - 03:47 PM it's a good cd, folks! it certainly deserves some fancy graphics. i'll get my computer geek son to make something appropriate. ~black walnut, north of the border |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 15 Feb 01 - 03:52 PM Thank you BW. All those mudcatters who failed to follow up on their orders dont know what they are missing, eh? I opted to not do the fancy graphics to keep the cost down. After all, it's the music you are ordering, not a picture of a Cretinous Yahoo. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: SINSULL Date: 15 Feb 01 - 04:04 PM Fishing for compliments Captain? I understand that pre-orders for the "Nude Mudcat Calendar" doubled when word got out that you were Mr. July. All from females. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: SINSULL Date: 16 Feb 01 - 11:59 AM Why do you think we keep babbling away here, Mr. K? By the way, there is a big disagreement going on re: which picture. The Captain with strategically placed guitar - certainly more in keeping with the Mudcat theme. Or the Captain in cap with vacuum cleaner. Of course there is the possibility of the Captain with strategically placed seagull...OUCH! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Rick Fielding Date: 16 Feb 01 - 12:32 PM Well Sinsull, actually I prefer the Kendall photo from the sixties with the jet black "bowl" haircut, tight black suit, Getsch guitar, surrounded by the Gold records....Oh sorry, wrong album. K.T.R.A (Canadian chapter) |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: JedMarum Date: 28 Oct 01 - 10:34 AM Kendall is an American classic. He is our own Kendall; Mudcatter, lover of folklore, teller of tales and fine singer of songs ... but he is more then that, in the grand scheme of things. Kendall is a shining example of Yankee humor and folk wisdom. He has captured an important part of Maine culture and passes it on through his recordings. I really do hope all Mudcatters can get a chance to enjoy his recordings ... then you can come back to the Mudcat and get under his skin with your political posts! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Big Mick Date: 28 Oct 01 - 12:40 PM Yeah............per usual I find meself following up with Jed, but his is.....after all...my older brother....(Mick ducks for the corner to hide behind the cabinet so as not to get hit by a flying banjo capo)........I currently have the tape, but I am going to order the CD straightaway. Kendall, save one of those for me. I will get a check out ASAP. Kendall, to me, is a prime example of the Mudcat Miracle. I cannot begin to tell you the growth in my music that comes directly from meeting and learning from folks like Kendall. Incredible source of style and lyric. And one hell of a great person. Kendall, it was my extreme pleasure to have time with you. Get the CD, folks. And make your way to FSGW next year. As fantastic as this one was, we can do it better next year. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: SINSULL Date: 28 Oct 01 - 02:08 PM At the risk of feeding Kendall's ego, I will second Mick's post and third, Jed's. Meeting Kendall and listening to his music and humor has been a high point in my life. Captain Morse is an American treasure. One more reason to thank Max for the Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: DougR Date: 28 Oct 01 - 02:18 PM Kendall? You owe Jed, Mick, and Sinsull money or something? DougR |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 28 Oct 01 - 06:41 PM Are they really talking about me? You folks are so great.I dont know how to thank you. It was such a treat to meet all of you, and, especially so when I told you about the old lady on the plane and Mick snorted his drink all over his meal! Love it when that happens. I know someone will want to hear it so, a friend of mine was getting off a plane after a very bumpy flight. The pilot landed it on one wheel, and it crashed down hard on the other, coming to a very bumpy landing. There was an old woman just ahead of him, and as she passed the pilot, she looked up and said "Did you land this fucking thing, or, did we get shot down"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: Big Mick Date: 28 Oct 01 - 11:48 PM That is no exaggeration. He told that damn story at dinner and what I didn't get in my meal still resides in my sinus cavities. It is funny enough reading it. But you shoulda heard it with the Maine accent. I am laughing out loud right this minute as I think of it. Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendalls CD From: kendall Date: 29 Oct 01 - 02:30 PM What accent? |

Subject: RE: Kendalls CD - Beginners Luck From: JudyB Date: 07 Jan 06 - 10:42 PM Well, I don't know. I've listened to the CD. I've even heard some of the stories live and in person. I'm not sure if I should mention it - I mean, Kendall is a friend, after all - but - well - I think - every now and then - he - how can I put it - he exaggerates a wee little bit. |
Subject: RE: Kendalls CD - Beginners Luck From: SINSULL Date: 07 Jan 06 - 11:22 PM He lies, Judy. (sigh) He lies. |

Subject: RE: Kendalls CD - Beginners Luck From: ranger1 Date: 08 Jan 06 - 12:27 PM Yes, buy the Captain's CD now. But do not listen to the stories while consuming any liquids, as they will, with certainty, come out of your nose. PS Kendall, you still ripped off the bit about the bear from my grandfather, 'cause I KNOW he'd never lie to me and I heard it from him first! |
Subject: RE: Kendalls CD - Beginners Luck From: kendall Date: 08 Jan 06 - 02:15 PM Did he know my uncle Curt? He told me that story when I was a small boy. |
Subject: RE: Kendalls CD - Beginners Luck From: Fortunato Date: 08 Jan 06 - 09:11 PM Kendall, I was going up to the flea market to sell a couple of keepsakes so that I could buy another copy of your cd. You see my copy of Begineers luck got all sticky. I can explain that, however, but you might not want to hear the details. In any case the plan was to get some extra cash so that I could order some more copies of your cd. Unfortunately we were delayed when the sheriff stopped by to say he'd had to arrest mother down at the bass pro shop. He told us her story was she'd eaten a corn dog before going in to purchase night crawlers for tomorrow night's float fishing trip and she got the real bad farts. Well the clerk behind the bait counter thought she'd stole a couple of pints of fox urine which they had on special for 1.99 that week. I don't know why they locked her up, she didn't even have any pockets in that night gown she was wearing when she left. The sheriff said that she might have got off with a warning but she'd not even taken the Marlboro out of her mouth when she told the judge to French kiss her ass. To make a long story short, I don't have the cash to replace your excellent cd. But if you could front me the cash, I'm good for it. cheers, chance |
