Just to keep the record right, myself and a certain Mr Calderbank have clubbed together and purchased a no expences spared, War of the Roses winners sheild. Seeing it, is at the moment, in my possesion I have already engraved it with the winners this year Yorkshire it will save confusion at the presentation!!!!!

O no Ali the standard of the Yorkshire Garland collectors and performers has the knowledgeable Steve Gardham, The unbelievable songs of John Greaves and me!

We have already done sung/spoken workshops this year at Shepley and Cleckheaton FFs and I believe Steve and John were also at Helmsley, bringing people up to date on what we have been doing!

I am a bit older than I used to be, and Booker as you will find is now 65 July 12th 07 (Wrigley do at Barnsley folk club on Monday 16th)

Definitely not moving south Linda - I couldn't leave Saddlewroth! perish the thought!

Sessions in the Conservative Club, Waggon, Hare and Hounds, and Granby Mr Happy. Is that OK? There are events in the Commercial too, but I'm not sure if there'll be any sessions going on downstairs there or not.

Then on the Sunday night the Survivors Session is in Greenfield Conservative Club cos the room is so much bigger than the Cross Keys, the beer's cheaper, and the landlord's much friendlier!And we've got 2 good sized rooms - the main one for the singaround, and the smaller one for the musicians session. We'll see if it works better than previous years in terms of comfort for everyone - at least you'll all get a seat!

Seriously though, after reading some previous threads, I am getting a bit disturbed about images of Raggytash in a string vest.
I just keep getting this nagging premonition of Raggys' beard getting caught up and all entangled in the said string vest and him having forever to mumble into his belly button.
It's a bit scary I know but I can't get rid of this image and it's giving me sleepless nights!

The Sunday night folk club has moved to the Conservative Club in Uppermill - far more comfortable and accessible. The Wedenesday night is still in the Cross Keys.

The map's great thanks 8 Pints - I can almost see my new flat on it - you're all welcome to come and have a Hosewarming drink over the weekend (2 mins. from the campsite). I'm a little upset that it doesn't show the puddle on the running track though!!

I'm looking forward to it too, now the sun's shining, and Saddleworth is looking beautiful today. It's sooooo exciting!!! (Probably my age I know!!)

Oops! It should have been housewarming of course! I don't think there's a hosepipe ban in place though at the moment! And you're all very welcome - but please bring a drink. Mine are still in boxes exept for wine and Jamieson's!!

The campsite looks fine at the moment - and it's been really sunny here all day. Hilary and Ron had a walk round it yesterday, and said that it's drying out nicely.

Just done the radio programme - all about the festival - and Geoff spoke really well.Scolds Bridle will be bringing their new CD, Horizons, this weekend.

Tim the Twangler,god bless your enthusiasm and all your work for the good cause of Staithes folk gathering this weekend BUT honestly mate you are on a hiding to nowhere trying to poach regulars of Saddleworth Folk Festival up to Staithes.

If you have ever been to Saddleworth FF you would know that this is a must-do festival and the same true converts to this festival turn up year after year no matter what the weather threatens. They are a truly happy and brilliant set of people and their number keeps growing every year.

The concert and workshop scene is buzzing with rich talent and the singarounds and musician sessions are some of the best I have ever come across.

I usually mainly frequent 'The Fringe' element of the festival (sorry organisers!)and I had considered Staithes folk weekend because it sounds reight down my street and I'm sure I would love it.
If fact I've considered it more than once and even mentioned it to other folkie friends but their reply has always been "Sounds good but it clashes with Saddleworth!"

Saddleworth AND Staithes are two of my favourite places on this planet, but Saddleworth will always win out (and it's only a half hour drive for me over the pennines to Yorkshires' lost but never forgotten little garden of Eden)

It's a shame and a regret that both festivals are on the same weekend.
I know it is very difficult to avoid clashing with other popular festivals over the summer (what summer? I hear you say) but I am sure that if there was some flexibility to move the Staithes event to some other weekend you would get lots of the Saddleworth folk 'fringe' fraternity going to it.
I for one would be up like a shot.
I sincerely wish both festivals every success and hope that they will both continue to prosper and grow in the years ahead.

That's not very nice is it?
It seems that the difference between Saddleworth FF goers and Staithes goers is that whilst we are polite, good natured and welcoming, Staithes representatives are inpolite, bad mannered and slag off other festivals because they can't get anyone to come to theirs.
Saddleworth FF over-flows with people making their own entertainment in the pubs and clubs because it has such a robust and very large 'fringe' following which is fully supported,encouraged and accomodated by the festival organisers and hostelries.
IN other words it is an all-inclusive festival that caters for every taste and inclination so eveyone is happy.
So it is obvious from what you have said that you have never been to this festival and know absolutely nothing about it

I would be suprised, Tim the Twangler, if you were an official and acceptable spokesperson for the Staithes festival because,quite frankly, your comments and your attitude actually does this festival more harm than good.
You are a poor and, I'm sure, unwelcomed 'representative' of this festival who would do well to shut up and keep your own counsel.

If however, you really do 'represent' Staithes folk weekend and speak on behalf of other like-minded people,then do you know what?, I would'nt touch it with a barge pole.

The moral of this tale therefore is...there is NO CONTEST folks...get yourselves to The Saddleworth Folk Festival THIS COMING WEEKEND and have yourselves a great time.

The world has space for all sorts of festivals even ones held on greenfield sites with season ticket holders only on the campsite.

We're not taking any chances - we're camping on the running track by the stream to ensure we don't get stuck in the mud like we did 3 years ago!

Everyone was towed off by tractor last week-end at Bromsgrove FF (by a kind lady farmer).

Will be there from Thursday evening and will save a space for you.

It's glorious again today in Saddleworth!I'm busy answering the phone every other minute - enquiries re the festival.

The campsite is open from Thursday night, and closes Monday afternoon - anyone coming on Thursday, we'll be in the Waggon as usual. Mine's a Jamieson's!
