Subject: BS: Mary Higgins-clark fans? From: Pseudolus Date: 05 Dec 05 - 11:05 AM I had an interesting thing happen to me. I have almost finished all of the books written by John Grisham. He's an excellent writer and I've enjoyed every book. I also enjoy James Patterson but I'm running out of his books as well. someone suggested to me that I might enjoy Mary Higgins-Clark. I bought some of her books and was about to start reading them. My wife's grandmother said (and I quote), "I thought she wrote for women!" Now, I've read the first book (Let me call you sweetheart) and although the main character was a woman, I didn't think she was writing in a style that catered to women. then I thought, maybe I wouldn't recognize a style that catered to women. so I ask you, does Mary Higgins-Clark "write for women"? I enjoyed the first book and will continue to read the rest anyway but I would still be interested in your opinion of the woman they call "the Queen of Suspense". Frank |

Subject: RE: BS: Mary Higgins-clark fans? From: number 6 Date: 05 Dec 05 - 12:21 PM Back in the 1990's I worked for the Simon Shuster publishing/distribution arm in Canada. I had the privilege of meeting Mary Higgins-Clark at a private gathering in her honour. She is a wondeful lady with a great sense of humour. I had a book autographed by her which I gave to my mother-in-law who a great fan of her's (needless to say she was thrilled with it). The market for Higgins-Clark books was mostly (at that time anyway) mostly female. I must admit I have never read anything by her, reason being mysteries don't interest me. sIx |
