jOhn is absolutely correct, IMHO. Enough of these threads about squirells (thanks, LH). We haven't had any about chipmonks. I will start one tomorrow if these squirell threads don't cease.

Do a google search for "Lord of the Squirrels", brucie, and you will find a really beautiful little website by a man who loves squirrels and cares for them, and he has a whole page about a chipmunk on it. Chipmunks are small squirrels, and they're very pretty.

The most memorable experience I have had with a chipmunk was on a hike high up in the Cascade Range in Oregon. Stopping for lunch, we sat on a log and got out our sandwiches. A Chip came out from behind tje log and stared at us in astonished curiosity. He hopped up on the log and approached us as though we were just a new kind of bear. When we threw him bits of sandwich he backed off a bit then started stuffing them into his cheek pouches. Eventually he bounded away and up a stump.

It was something to realize that we were probably the first humans he had ever seen.

Zkwirrrellls, on the other hand, I have not seen close up.

1967, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco (that's in California, on the west side of the pond): I had bought a large candy bar, with a bright foil wrapper, from school girls selling them for some fund raiser, eaten part, stuck the rest in my pocket, and strolled on in the park. All at once something yanked at my pants. A squirrel had hopped up on a short post along the walked, stood up on his hind legs, and yanked the candy bar out of my pocket.
