oh boy...just got the word one of my cousins is in the hospital...Dorothy has cerebral palsy and is one of the most wonderfuol people I have had the honour to meet..and I have met alot of great folks....she has a wonderful sense of humour and holds her own in the teasing...but today she is not doing too good...last night her neice, Chris (who has been taking care of her), took her to the hospital because she was not feeling that good...they did a blood test and found that the blood count was too low...so they gave her three blood transfusions last night...and today will be testing for colon cancer....

Please keep her in your thoughts....

My mother had colon cancer over a year ago and she's doing fine now. I hope this gives you some encouragement.

Before the cancer was discovered, she was misdiagnosed (in my opinion) as having some kind of anemia. She was taking iron supplements and some other medication for it, and on a couple of occasions had blood transfusions and iron infusions. After the cancer was removed, the anemia disappeared. I think the only problem was that she had been losing blood slowly through her colon.

You really need to focus on what NATHAN needs, and then try to get at least some of what you need. Also, please forgive me if this sounds snotty or uncaring, but---
You need to stop obsessing about this stuff and perhaps even stop looking for the BadStuff. START looking for GoodStuff, like what Susan no doubt sent to you. GET AWAY if at all possible.

DON'T try to stop taking any meds you are on right now......whatever the hell they are for. PM me if you want clarification or other stuff.

I just wanted to say how sorry I was to read that you were getting hit from another quarter on top of the stuff that was already happening. Yes, this will end. Nobody knows just when. Some time in the future, maybe months from now, maybe more, you'll be able to look back at all this and say, "You know, there was this really rough stretch when a whole bunch of crap hit the fan -- and here's the good that came out of it..."

I'm sorry about it all happening at once now, though. It probably gets you feeling like Job.

I don't know Amergin. I once spoke to someone who happened to be a monk when I was going through loads of bad things. He mentioned a time in his life where he likened it to being in a lift crashing down out of control and thinking "surely this must be the basement floor now" and then finding the "lift" crashing down through another couple of floors...

Not a happy or encouraging view in itself but the fact is shit happens and some people for whatever reason seem to get a lot more, particularly in a run than others may see (perhaps even see in a life time).

The real point is you can and will get through and eventually life will even out but believe me, it can take years. Of course, you have a lot of friends here. It may not seem a lot but every little helps...

Nathan (Amergin): I'll be keeping you and your cousin and your families in my thoughts. Concentrate on being supportive of Dorothy and don't hold on to the other "BadStuff" right now. The people who can be there for you right now will be, and anyone who feels the need for distance right now has needs that will have to be met elsewhere. Do what you can, and don't worry about what you can't do or what anyone won't let you in to do. And, as Jon says, we'll be here!

Nathan, take care of yourself. I've had that kind of bad run, too, and some day it will be distant past. I have two sisters who have survived colon cancer for many years. I hope things lighten up for you.

My thoughts are with you and Dorothy. Having a sister whose docs told her almost 9 years ago that she'd most likely not live another 5 years ago, due to a hard-to-treat, aggressive cancer, I hold out hope for Dorothy. I believe that prayer, visualization, and the positive energies of friends can go a long way toward helping the healing process.

Whatever happens, you and your cousin are in my prayers.

Thanks everyone....looks like she'll be ok....they found a polyp that was where the bleeding was from...they took it out...and did some tests...and things sound good...she's doing much better....thanks...

I don't think you were around back then in May of '99 when I went through the same thing immediately following the aneurysm, but I am sure she hated all of it as much as I did. It took them a long time to find the bleeding source although initially I was transfused with 7 pints in the first 24 hours. You'd have thought it would show up more easily........But they do keep at it and mine was a small tumor they removed surgically and I'm hopeful that Dorothy had a little easier time of it. In any case, I am sooo very glad my young friend that things are working somewhere for you!! You're a good man Nathan.
