Inspired by the philosophical discussion on another recent thread, I've come up with absolute philosophical, logical proof of something I've always highly suspected - EVERYTHING is Music!

You can prove it to yourself too! Just wrap those neurons around a little propositional logic...

First, if A is true, then the opposite of A cannot also be true, right? For instance, if it's true that "Michael Jackson is a alien", then it logically follows that "Michael Jackson is not a alien" must be false. OK - now we're ready to prove forevermore that everything is music, in just 5 easy steps!

1. The proposition "Everything is Music!" is either true or false.
2. If it's false, then it's opposite must be true.
3. The opposite of "everything" is "nothing", which give us the proposition "Nothing is Music!".
4. "Nothing is Music!" must be false, as music does exist. Everyone has heard it, if not produced it! This means the opposite proposition must be true.
5. Therefore, "Everything is Music" must be true!

See - I knew it! And now I'm off to fill my day with the sweetly logical sounds of ... EVERYTHING!   Oooooo .... I feel so ... so .... sated ....

Well if you wanna get heavy about it, here's a excerpt that agrees with you that Music is EVERYTHING:

BTW, I think I understood this article to 'say' that 'the universe is music; and music & dance are one'. But alot of the comments went waaay over my head. If anybody reads this article and understands it, I'd appreciate it if you'd break it down in 'regular English' and post it here or PM me. Really. I'm serious.

"All girls hate broccoli" must be true or false. If false, then it must be true that "All girls love broccoli". Or perhaps "No girls hate broccoli".

See what I mean? Study up on your Boolean propositional algebra, lass. P>Q does NOT mean ~P>~Q.

Or try replacing 'music' by 'shit' and by the same five steps you can 'deduce' that this is true.

After having done that we try "Everybody is Mozart". Since the opposite, "Nobody is Mozart" can be shown to be false, it must be true. So we are all Mozarts.

Easy, ain't it?

Most if not all propositions can be read in different ways, and can be negatived in different ways.

The flaw in your negative statement, Daylia, is that you've given a broader negative than is called for. The correct negative or opposite would be that "Music is not everything."

And of course I have to point out that your statement that
First, if A is true, then the opposite of A cannot also be true is not true in all philosophical systems. Indeed, the very concept of "the opposite" is not always meaningful. Merely inserting a negative in positive statement doesn't establish that the positive statement is a yes/no truth.

I remember Lou Reed released an album of Electronic Noise that sold about 4 copies.Whereas, his "Transformer" and "Berlin" albums sold millions.I think that means the majority are against you on this one daylia.

Schroedigger's Cat was consumed in an experiment that went awry back in 1995. Harry Lee Wigley had intended to demonstrate a fallacy in the theory of relativity utilizing the Cat in a new type of centrifuge that was suspended within a very pendulum again within a vaacuum. The resulting detonation destroyed half a block on Updock street in Omaha and caused 1500 pigeons to moult simultaneously. The Cat vanished in a puff of lint and has not been seen since.

and therein lies much of the problem with the way a lot of the human race functions. "I want X to be true, so I will use any excuse to avoid thinking and just believe.

at least the anonymous guest is halfway aware of what it is doing.
