Subject: Can anyone help?
From: GUEST,Guest - Marg
Date: 23 May 06 - 04:49 PM

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I used to have the mp3 of Tribute to Newfoundland by John Cameron, ljc.

Lost it when my hard-drive fried.

Does anyone here have a copy of it? I've tried the download link from the obit archive, but it's no longer there. tweedsblues not longer has it. They tried to find it, but no luck.

I was a friend of John's as well, and really would like to obtain another copy of that mp3 again. I have the Sons of Erin version but not John's.

Thx.

Sorry and I really wish I could help. LJC and I met here and communiacted back and forth a lot. He was a great guy and a real friend. We shared some similarities from aneurysms to motorcycles to writing......and I miss him.

Hope someone here can help. I'll keep an eye on this thread to make sure it stays on the "Today List" for a few days.

Spaw

It may stay on todays list without being opened by the person who could help, the title is not very informative.
Good luck anyway.

If it is an MP3 you should be able to just attach it to an email.

If it is too big you may need to FTP it to a server directory somewhere that you both can have access to.

Yup. It's an MP3.

I'd be happy to send it in an email. Are you a mudcat member, Marg? If you are, you can send me your contact info in a Personal Message. If you're not a member, you might want to join and send me a PM.

Thanks CarolC, you are a true peach of a gal!!

This is one cool place ain't it Maggie?
Glad you were able to keep your copy. I had mine stored on the Tweed server for a couple years but had to let it go to make some room. Had it on the home pc too, but that thing crashed a while back and all was lost. Mudcat comes to the rescue again, per usual.

No problem, MaggieB. PM received, and will soon be answered.

Tweed, do you want me to send you a copy as well?

Thx CarolC

If you don't hear from Tweed, I'll forward it as they do want a copy.

I can see why ljc loved this place, he mentioned it often in our chats.

Was at the Scribblers Sanctuary rereading John's Wee Toon stories. I noticed that there are a few missing. John used to send me his stories, and I remember reading at least 2 if not more that are not on the site.

Since I also lost the stories in the same hard-drive disaster I was wondering if anyone else has those missing stories.

It would be nice to see them posted at the Scribblers Sanctuary.

Maggie, may I say Thank You from the bottom of my heart? Little John Cameron is part of the fabric of this place, much missed and remembered fondly. I wonder if you would do me a kindness? Would you give us a link to the site that has his Wee Toon stories?

Welcome to our village, Maggie.

All the best,

Mick

I uploaded the copy that John sent me to:

It was nice to listen to that again. I miss John. I'll have to read some of the classic ljc now.

Maggie, welcome to the Cat and thanks for remembering our sorely-missed mutual friend for us. I will be downloading that mp3 right now! I remember some funny exchanges with Little John. Unlike him (or so he said), I was born a Cameron, so I had the greatest admiration for anyone who decided to become one!

When John died, his friend Rick Fielding promised to post some funny stories he had involving John--sadly, we also lost Rick, as far as I know, before he got around to it. I would dearly love to hear what Rick was mentioning: "In a few days perhaps I'll start a thread about some of John's adventures while he lived in Toronto. Things like "The haunted rooming house", "The Electric Landlady", "The revenge of the Montreal music fan", and of course "Big Kay, and the reluctant job-hunter".........."

Anyone know any of these tales?

Willie-O

Willie-O Ur welcome.

I never knew John when he lived in TO, even though I was there at the same time. I meet him in '99 in a chat room. I was the one who introduced John to MSN Messenger. He loved it and soon surpassed me in using it.

I don't know about the TO stories, there may be others who might. I do remember one John told me, can't remember much about the details, just about him and John Lennon smoking a J**nt together at The Hawk's farm.

BTW my sister-in-law is a Cameron.

Maggie

UR so right Tweed, I feel very welcome here. Still trying to get used to posting on a board.

Only just figured out today about getting PM messages. Duh, would think that someone who knows about pc's could have figured that out sooner.

Maggie

Maggie, there are a few of his postings where he logged in as a Guest located HERE. If you have read any of them you may have noticed the posts are out of order thanks to a crash awhile back here at the 'Cat. It makes some of the threads a bit weird but a lot of those were pretty weird anyway back then.

Rick told me a couple of stories but I don't have them written down anywhere unfortunately and I can't recall much .....I have CRS (Can't Remember Shit). Rick and Jeri were good friends so she may know a story or two......or not.

I'll search around the 'Cat as I do recall something about a gig in the nude once.......And if I can't find anything else than maybe you'd like a Cletus story instead..............or not........LOL.......

Spaw, I remember asking Rick, because he'd said he'd post those stories and he never did. I think he probably told me one or more, but I have CRS too, and can't remember what it was, or if, in fact, Rick really DID tell me and it's not a figment of my whatsit. If he did, I'm pretty sure the stories weren't as good as the titles. Maybe I should get myself hypnotized...

First met little John at Rick Fielding's flat on Admiral St in Toronto back in 68.John and his lady had a room in the same building.
With leader Ralph Thornbury (O'Brian), John and Rick were the Irish pub band calling themselves "The Sons Of Erin".
This was the group Rick jokingly referred to as "The Sons Of Urine"
Within a year, John had moved to NFLD and I didnt see him again until 1971 when he came back to Toronto to record an album, on which I played guitar and banjo.
Sadly I never saw him again, but did manage to touch base with him before he died, (right here on Mudcat.)
My first impressions were of a Gentle man with a big Scotish baritone voice. It was also the first time I ever heard the songs,Ramblin' Boy and Wild Mnt. Thyme, of which he sang with much depth and emotion.
Along with all the others, who haved moved on, I still think of him fondly and am glad to see his memory alive and well here on Mudcat.
Cheers Glen

We have his album and even found an old stereo to play it on...but to find Johns song on the internet...well..THAT was wonderful. Could you do me a big favour and post it out on an open website..so if someone was doing a google search they would find it? I dont know how or I would do it...but I can turn my computer on and off...lol. But thank you. I can be reached at rocksbyjo@yahoo.ca. We are in the process of getting one of his albums put to CD.

Thank you so much...you brought me tears and joy
