I just watched Kamala Harris on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She is very inspirational, and she said some very proactive comments about how important it is for the people of America to stand up for what you believe in and not capitulate to threats. She also stressed the built-in strength of the democratic process and public service institutions and a hope that they will withstand the current attacks, if people and politicians don't capitulate.

If Trump does something successfully, even if it is as accidental as a blind squirrel finding a nut, it should be noted.

This could prove to be quite a challenge.

One was the prediction that tariffs would cripple the economy by July 4th.
That did not happen because tariffs were delayed several times.

If you found that folks in the US didn’t want to talk about politics, despite being in the eye of the Trump storm, it is the result of the fear the average person or business person feels from the administration. This is similar to East Germany and Soviet methods of control.

I have seen the same from folks around here. Folks either strongly condemn the dictator or they feign an agnostic opinion.
If I go further and ask if they feel fear as part of their outlook is when they outright lie and claim they feel no fear whatsoever. Even fear itself is part of the Trump loyalty cult to be afraid of.

The upshot of the meeting was held on the grounds of the military base on the north side of downtown Anchorage. It was locally telecast and as of this moment 3:42 PM locally both country's airplanes are still on the field.
Putin made the first remarks, goinng into the well worn historical linkages between the United States and Russia mentioning the material support rendered by Russian and American aviators during WW. To me he sounded like the kid in class giving a book report over a book he hasn't read but mentioning all the publishing details that don't matter.
Following Putin, TRMP gave the kind of remarks a teacher makes after a student who hasn't done the work but whose father owns the venue of the PTA. As his remarks seemed to close the joint remarks, Putin made a sally that a next meeting should take place in Russia. TRMP appeared to be surprised at the remark.
Neither of the standees took questions.
Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski had already been videoed with the opinion that no hard decisions would be announceed. She seems to have called the shots realistically.

There was a pro-Ukraine rally being held at the Park Strip downtown. A little further away the locl Republicans had a TRMP rally. It was a lot less impressive.
Putin just went up the steps to the 4 engine Russian jet. He appears to have spent his first four hours on Alaska soil.

Alaska's other Senator, Dan Sullivan, is live on TV now reporting on Alaska's newest icebreker, which is hopefully fitted out.

There will be an entirely new Ukraine support rally at 5:30 local time.

Now TRMP is getting back on AirForceOne.

Trump pledges effort to eliminate mail-in voting
The president has for years railed against the system, arguing it led to election fraud in 2020.

There are states that do all of their voting by mail. Texas has made it harder for many people unless they are over 65, disabled, or have a damned good excuse. They used to let people register when they renewed their driver's license, etc. Now even to vote by mail you have to request to vote by mail every year.

Voting by mail is more beneficial for the Democratic party because many of the people who would vote Democratic can't get away from work to go to a polling place.

Right now in Fort Worth they're trying to cut in half the number of polling places, and you guessed it, the ones they're wanting to remove are in brown and black districts.

All of this is the last hurrah for the old white male in America. They can't stand that they're out of power so they're forcibly removing everyone else's ability to vote or legislate at all.
