Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Barrett's Privateers (Stan Rogers) From: Taconicus Date: 11 Aug 10 - 02:24 PM The link to the lyrics on Mudcat is here When I sing it I change a single word which, aside from the musically unimportant anachronism that Sherbrooke didn't exist with that name until 1815, is the one outright mistake Rogers made that no seafaring man would stand for: ships roll on their side, rather than pitch (which is a rotation in the vertical fore-aft plane). Ergo, to avoid snorts of ridicule from listeners who know boats, I'd sing it: The Antelope shook and rolled on her side. |
