Subject: Chord Req: Skewball (Steeleye Span) banjo tab From: GUEST,Sandy Andina Date: 07 Mar 06 - 01:59 AM Well, it's happened--hit the ol' double nickel and the brain cells are beginning to go supernova on me. 24 years ago I played a bit of frailing banjo and learned this cool mt. modal minor tuning. Immediately figured out "Chatzkele" (Marais & Miranda version) and then Steeleye Span's version of "Skewball," which sounded a lot flashier than it really was--a real crowd-pleaser. Trouble is, I soon got sidetracked to bass guitar and haven't picked up the banjo in years. My singing partner Susan plays 6-string banjo, but I'd love to bring the fiver back into the act (especially when we add Kate Early, who sings lead on the trad songs). Anyone know what the strings in that particular tuning were and which chords? (In a pinch, I could figure out the chords again if I had the tuning). |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Skewball (Steeleye Span) banjo tab From: Geoff the Duck Date: 07 Mar 06 - 05:16 AM I don't have a copy of the track inquestion, so can't listen and guess a tuning, so no help there. If however you want to brush up your clawhammer banjo it is worth checking out the links from this thread BLICKY. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Skewball (Steeleye Span) banjo tab From: GUEST,Chip Date: 07 Mar 06 - 02:34 PM The most likely tuning is gDGCD. This is what most folks think of as "modal minor" tuning, although there are others. Tune the whole mess up a whole tone (or capo 2 frets) for A modal. |
