Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Dec 03 - 10:07 PM Blind River is in North Ontario, a fair way to the west of Sudbury. It's a rather small town on the TransCanada Highway in the middle of nowhere. If you like to drink, Blind River is the place to go, I hear, cos there ain't a whole lot else to do there unless you like racing snowmobiles across frozen lakes. Clinton Hammond has never played Blind River, but Rick Fielding has. I have never played Blind River, but I did eat at their Tim Horton's once, and that's how I met Shane (BDiBR). - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Sorcha Date: 31 Dec 03 - 10:08 PM Oh no....... |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 03 - 10:15 PM North Ontario, eh? Was Blind River the town Neil Young was thinking of when he wrote, "Helpless?" "There is a town in North Ontario...." |

Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Dec 03 - 10:30 PM Matter of fact, Blind River may very well be that town that Neil Young refers to in "Helpless"...and he does mention Blind River specifically in another song about his youth: "Long May You Run" If you're from North Ontario or have gone there, this rings a chord in the heart which cannot be denied. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: CarolC Date: 31 Dec 03 - 10:45 PM Yesterday on the CBC, Stuart Maclean (sp?) was hosting a show about the history of Canada BC (Before Celine). He said that thousands of years ago, the glaciers came down from the arctic, going south until they got to Sudbury, where they turned around and headed back north to get more rocks. Wish I could help you, BDiBR, but I'm drinking with Mr. the Sailor tonight. |

Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Herga Kitty Date: 01 Jan 04 - 01:53 PM I could meet you in The Black Horse pub, Sudbury - but that's the London Sudbury, so wrong continent. Kitty |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Mooh Date: 01 Jan 04 - 02:49 PM Been through Blind River, but always preferred Armstrong for its drunkenness further from amenities, great fishing, no law enforcement that matters, and black flies big enough to make a meal. But, anywhere where Celine Dion isn't likely to gig can't be all bad. Sorry I can't help. I'll just listen in from here. Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Peace Date: 01 Jan 04 - 05:34 PM Like, hey, uh, BDiBR, did the girls show up? Better stay sober a bit--wouldn't want someone to have it in for you! Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Cluin Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:26 PM The town Neil refers to in "Helpless" is Thunder Bay, actually. If you coulda snagged a ride to the Sault yesterday, you coulda come to Mack Island with us for a drunken jam, Shane. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: GUEST,Big Brother Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:41 PM Give it up people. Loser-boy is so sick today that he can't even crawl outta bed. I have felt better myself too, eh? But compared to him I am in the pink. I have seen dead dogs that looked better than he does right now. I got no idea where he was last night, what he did, or who's booze he was drinkin' but the lad got totally flippin' wasted. Drunker than a hardboiled owl. I figger I have saved at least $300 because I didn't pay for his good time. I am gonna put on Black Sabbath full blast in about 5 minutes and see what he does. Should be good. Happy flippin' New Year, eh! Don |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Cluin Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:48 PM Don, if you've got it, the finale to the 1812 overture, complete with cannons, works better for that. I did that one once in University to a res-mate who woke me up at 4 am pounding on my door drunk when he knew I had an exam at 9. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: GUEST,Big Brother Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:58 PM Very cool. I will see if I can get it tomorrow at the liberry and save if for the right moment. Don |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: GUEST Date: 01 Jan 04 - 11:27 PM Borrow an electric guitar and amp. Crank both to max volume. Strike a D13 flat 5 flat 9. See spot. See spot jump. See spot quake. See spot spread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: GUEST Date: 01 Jan 04 - 11:45 PM okay, thanks for clearing that up Cluin...Thunder Bay is the town in "Helpless" ...got it. Peace. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Cluin Date: 01 Jan 04 - 11:47 PM Yep. Neil spent some time there in early 60s. I spent some time there in early 80s. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seeking drinking companion From: Peace Date: 02 Jan 04 - 05:11 PM I spent three weeks there one night. And I learned to call it TUNDER BAY. Gotta love the TransCanada. |
