Subject: RE: SETH LAKEMAN & ALAN TITCHMARSH From: KeithofChester Date: 27 Sep 07 - 07:24 AM I'm worried. Seth and his fiddle got VERY wet making just a 3 minute video for Lady of the Sea. How wet are they going to get in a WHOLE TV series? If Smooth Ops have ben advising on the music, I suspect Alan will just "happen" to bump into Kate Rusby on his travels. I have been sorely tempted by the Alan Titchmarch rose available from David Austen nurseries, but I'm just a bit afraid from planting one unless it will start nagging at me to get on with various jobs every time I go into the garden. |

Subject: RE: SETH LAKEMAN & ALAN TITCHMARSH From: greg stephens Date: 27 Sep 07 - 07:45 AM I noticed that the person who runs the Radio Folk and Acoustic Forum, who is in fact from Smooth Operations, included a big plug for Seth Lakeman's website by making it the subject of a new thread. Just what are the business connections there? |
Subject: RE: SETH LAKEMAN & ALAN TITCHMARSH From: greg stephens Date: 27 Sep 07 - 07:46 AM That should have been the "BBC Radio 2 Folk and Acoustic Forum" |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: katlaughing Date: 27 Sep 07 - 12:59 PM No problem. If you put "Seth" in the search box at the top of the thread titles and set the drop down menu date to "All" you will find a bunch of threads with his name in them. |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: greg stephens Date: 27 Sep 07 - 01:00 PM He's never brought anybody to one of my gigs, I'm sure I would have noticed. |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: LesB Date: 27 Sep 07 - 03:37 PM Sorry am I missing something? What's the connection between Lakeman & Tichmarsh? I quite like Alan Tichmarsh (me being a keen gardener), and I don't see what all the fuss is about Seth Lakeman (me being a keen folk fan). Cheers Les |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: greg stephens Date: 27 Sep 07 - 06:43 PM Unfortunately, this thread is incomprehensible like one or two others. For those who dont know, the originator of the thread seems to have been banned for persistent nuisancing or something, so her posts are being removed,. Which does make it a little difficult to see what it is about, as she started up with a reference to how thrilled she was because Alan Titchmarsh has been told by Smooth Operations to have Seth Lakeman on his programme or something. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Steve Shaw Date: 27 Sep 07 - 07:29 PM I came to this thread because the title contained the names of two of my extremely least favourite people in light entertainment, and I was fully expecting to be invited to add to the list. So I should like to nominate Michael (bloody) Parkinson and Graham (effin') Norton, and, while I'm at it, the "actor" who plays Charlie Fairhead in Casualty. Thanks for letting me get all that off my chest. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: KeithofChester Date: 28 Sep 07 - 04:56 AM while I'm at it, the "actor" who plays Charlie Fairhead in Casualty. Thanks for letting me get all that off my chest. Watch The Long Good Friday. Bob Hoskins does something VERY nasty to "Charlie" him in that, before Pierce Brosnan does something very nasty (offscreen) to Bob himself. |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Linda Kelly Date: 28 Sep 07 - 05:04 AM I think using the words actor and Charlie Fairhead in the same sentence is a criminal offence. |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Sep 07 - 12:01 PM I like Charlie, quite enjoyed Seth Lakeman at Warwick, have nothing against Alan Tichmarsh or parky and have never read lizzie's posts. Shall I get me 'at? |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Steve Shaw Date: 29 Sep 07 - 07:45 PM Well, Mrs Duck, let's put the most positive construct we can on all this. Charlie is a good, solid citizen. You'd be safe in his hands as long as he doesn't panic. Big if, actually! And don't bother to look him in the eye, as he'll be looking heavenwards anyway. Seth is a Lakeperson from Crapstone, near Chipshop, near Yelverton, almost (but not quite) on Dartmoor. It's a real challenge to go to Crapstone and not get rained on. Actually, it's a real challenge to go to Crapstone. We won't mention Equation. I too have nothing against Alan "Garden Humper" Titmarsh (and yes, I can spell), but I have nothing for him either. As for Michael "I am a professional Yorkshireman" Parkinson, well what can I say? Advisedly, nothing, as I am a Lancashire lad! |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Steve Shaw Date: 30 Sep 07 - 06:19 PM I give Kate Rusby full credit for rapidly seeing the light. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Surreysinger Date: 30 Sep 07 - 07:59 PM And if I recall correctly Equation was composed of not three, but four members of the band, the fourth being Sean Lakeman??? Am I also right in recalling that she and Kathryn Roberts were performing as a duo before Equation was formed - I seem to recall seeing the pair of them performing on the concert stage in Towersey many many moons ago. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Steve Shaw Date: 30 Sep 07 - 08:25 PM I seem to recall a Froots article from many moons ago featuring Equation (if I'm not mistaken 'twas the estimable Colin Irwin who authored it) in which they made so bold as to compare themselves in some respects to the Beatles. Mr Irwin appeared to be giving them an inch or two and they were gleefully taking several leagues. Heheh. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: The Borchester Echo Date: 01 Oct 07 - 03:55 AM Equation have had at least 7 different lineups, once including Luke Daniels which I'd forgotten about and, doubtless, he was trying to. As far as I'm aware, the band currently contains just one Lakeperson but I won't be seeking them out to check. The Poozies were a far more interesting entity. The kRusby was in for a short time as a replacement for Sally Barker but the most exquisite hour of that band was the musical chemistry between Karen Tweed's accordian and Eilidh Shaw's fiddle. None of which has the slightest relevance to a fakesong writer/violin abuser and a gardener/author. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Oct 07 - 05:23 AM Diane, you forgot the documentary narrator/Radio 2 DJ/BBC Proms telly presenter bits. It's becoming very difficult to weave one's way through life without encountering the man in some guise or other. I even have a number of large, plastic garden tubs that bear the almost ineradicable sticky label "Alan Titchmarsh Garden Humper." It's been suggested, unkindly, that there should be a hyphen in there after his surname. He has that elusive and amazing ability to sound simultaneously patronising, whimsical and bored with us all. Ah, what a vale of tears this world is turning into! I saw the Poozies several times when the lineup was Tweed, Barker, Seddon and McMaster, and later with Rusby. They were wonderful. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 01 Oct 07 - 06:51 AM Anything with Patsy Seddon and Mary Macmaster (a.k.a. Sileas) in it is going to be wonderful. They're great harpers & great fun - Thought I'd throw in a mention since this thread is near the top of the pile anyway. (I just Freudianly typed "threat" for thread...) |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Ruth Archer Date: 01 Oct 07 - 07:01 AM ThePozzies were rather wonderful at Loughbroough Folk Festival last year, reunited with Sally Barker. |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Ruth Archer Date: 01 Oct 07 - 07:05 AM Erm, the POOZIES were rather good, too... |

Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: KeithofChester Date: 01 Oct 07 - 07:13 AM Alan Titchmarsh is almost as ubiquitous these days as Steve Knightley's younger looking twin Russell Brand. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Ruth Archer Date: 01 Oct 07 - 07:27 AM "Steve Knightley's younger looking twin Russell Brand." You've got to be kidding. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: KeithofChester Date: 01 Oct 07 - 07:36 AM You've got to be kidding No, Russell is definitely the younger looking of the two. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Oct 07 - 07:36 AM No, I can certainly envisage a twin (been through the wars, life spent on the streets) looking older than t'other (riches galore, fed on royal jelly). I just hope that Titchmarsh hasn't got any twins, whether the same age as him or not. |
Subject: RE: Seth Lakeman & Alan Titchmarsh From: Ruth Archer Date: 02 Oct 07 - 02:39 AM Russell Brand is a louche, snake-hipped sex god. Steve Knightly looks, as one of my friends amusingly said recently, "Like the darts-playing dad of the Levellers." |
