I apologize to each and every woman here at Mud Cat for a comment that I made on the the Texas polygamist thread...

I was misinformed and didn't know that the girls were brainwashed into thinking it was their duty to have sex with the older men in the sect...

I could never condone such a behavior and I should have learned more before saying anything at all...

I can understand your initial disbelief that such a thing could be happening under the guise of tolerance for the rights of people to practice the religion or lifestyle of their choice.

As a guy put off by your remarks too, I'd say it was a mean spirited, bigoted thing to say. But I'm a cynic, so I can't say I'm shocked to see it, coming from a guy with a legacy of making demeaning remarks about 'womenz' for as many years as I've come and gone around here.

No need to apologize to me - nor, I should think, to the possibly many Mudcatters who have not even looked at the thread in question. I skimmed it a few times as it progressed; I must have missed the offending comment, and I'm not going to go back and search it out ... All I picked up was Bobert expressing some hesitation to join in with the prevailing sentiment; nothing wrong with that. As I say, I seem to have missed something - but I certainly don't need an apology.

There really isn't one smoking gun post, myself... It was just some reflections on "rounding folks up" in general without having the full story about the "culture" that was promoted within the compound...

Polygamy in Canada.

I would point out to all that being Mormon does not equate to being a polygamist or engaging in polygamist practises. I hope that distinction is clear to people.

Anyone can be polygamous.... it's just that in many places the second and subsequent wives are not recognised in law.

And if we're to take the stance of certain 'Christian' groups that divorce is illegal then an awful lot of people could be polygamous.

Equally, there are Mormons and Muslems who are monogamous... it's not a cut and dried argument.

I remember one article was about someone worried cos his daughter wore tight jeans. The rotten sod discussed it with his daughter, and together they prayed for guidance on the matter. Their prayers were answered and his daughter came to agree, that the kind of of girls who wore tight jeans were exactly the kind with loose morals.

Just thought you might value that tip from the almighty.

it amused me, too.

As for lurking, how could anybody know if there are people who come and never post? Frankly, I doubt it. People would either want to join in the social life of the Mudcat or they would go elsewhere.

As for Bobert, when you've been on the Mudcat a while, you come to know people. Bobert is clearly a decent sort, intelligent and observant, even if he can't spell.

He would be a good person to be stranded on a desert island with.
