1971 Winona Ryder was born this day (29th October) in 1971.
Multiple threads combined, and the first thread was undeleted because I could see no reason for deletion.

Ah, yes. Long live the lustrous Winona. My favorite movies of hers would be "Little Women" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula", but I like just about all of them. Oddly enough, the character she played in her first notable role in the movie "Beetlejuice" looked astonishingly similar to my first girlfriend, who was a rather strange little creature...

Subject: BS: Winona Ryder's birthday thread?
From: The Shambles
Date: 01 Nov 06 - 05:11 AM

What happened to Winona Ryder's birthday thread?

It was in the BS section - it did receive a number of posts but it now seems to have vanished.

Any explanation for this?

Could anyone explain where this recent BS thread has vanished to?

And where the previous thread, where I asked the same question has vanished to also?

Well yes - that's a thought. She was caught on camera and there was a record of the offence.

This recent BS thread - along with all of its posts - just seems to have entirely vanished without trace or explanation...............

Her birthday was the 29th October 1971 - so the thread(s) must have vanished sometime since then.

There must surely be a logical explanation...?

My previous post to this thread ALSO has vanished into thin air!

And I'm sure no one deleted it, because it was quite uncontroversial.

What I said was: Long live the lustrous Winona! Happy Birthday!

Why are you so sure of this? Perhaps it was your use of the word 'lustrous'?

But if you click on your name to do a search of your recent posts - you will find that you will not find any record of that post or the thread.

I am quite sure that my first attempt at starting this thread - to enquire about the one you posted to - was deleted.

Although there was no editing comment to indicate this or explain why.

Perhaps some anonymous one here just does not like Winona?

MMario - Are you seriously suggesting that my first attempt to post this thread was also lost in the update?

I have found the most likely reason why my posts fail to appear is because some anonymous fellow poster has imposed their judgement on it, deleted, moved or altered it. As this clearly did happen to the second thread - why should I think it did not happen to the original one? The only miracle is that this thread remains - but I would not bet much money on this situation remaining the case for very much longer.

And as despite my request that all cases where censorship action are indicated and explained in a editing comment - and all editing comments are limited to where some form of action has actually taken place - this has not been adopted by our moderators'.

As a result - any poster who cannot find their contribution has no way of knowing if this is because it has been censored, lost in some software glitch or is as a result of us being in the 'Twilight Zone.

Oh, don't be silly. The word "lustrous" means "shining like a pearl". Who would delete a post because of the word "lustrous"? A complete idiot, that's who, and I don't think that Shane is a moderator on this forum yet.

explaining all editing actions has not been adopted by our moderators because most of them feel no need for it (or at least that is what they have said publicly) and they are not required to do so by the site owner.

I in no way, shape or form ever suggested that your first attempt to post this thread was lost in the update, though given the timeing I seriously do suggest that is what happened to the original thread.

Regarding your attempt - I respectfully submit that anyone can make a mistake. I know I have often thought I posted something and found it is "no longer there" when the plain truth is I probably hit the wrong button.

any poster who cannot find their contribution has no way of knowing if this is because it has been censored, lost in some software glitch or is as a result of us being in the 'Twilight Zone.

that is normally the state of affairs on the internet. You are suggesting that Max has some obligation to tell us. He doesn't.

Regarding your attempt - I respectfully submit that anyone can make a mistake. I know I have often thought I posted something and found it is "no longer there" when the plain truth is I probably hit the wrong button.

When you check to see your contribution is in place, see that it is, but it is not there on a subsequent visit - I respectfully submit that this was NOT the case here. It was not a mistake on my part.

The adoption of my suggestion would at least ensure that if posters did not see an editing comment of explanation - they could be sure to rule out and get paranoid about imposed censorship action being responsible for the non-apperance of their contribution.

Often this appears to be many poster's first assumption.........As this could be so easily be addressed - I can't help wondering why it is not. Unless the intention is to make our forum totally paranoid about possible censorship?

it is not done because the site owner doe not require it. The site owner reserves the right to edit, delete, move, etc any postings. By submitting a post the poster agrees to that. Again, standard operating procedure.

Again, standard operating procedure = a totally paranoid forum.

Of course Max has always had the right to do this.

All that is being politely requested is that posters are informed and be made aware when he does exercise this right.

So they don't wrongly blame the software, their fingers or their memory for any non appearance of their words as posted.

In *your* opinion* a paranoid forum. Most people accept it - and are aware it can happen. As can lost transmissions, loss of data, etc.

Obviously some anonymous one here just does not like Winona?

Is it really too much for posters to always be informed in an editing comment and for them to know when any form of imposed censorship has been judged to be necessary?

That would prevent us from blaming the software, questioning our memory and from my poor old dog from being kicked in frustration.

If you won't introduce this simple procedure for our sakes - then perhaps for the sake of our poor bruised pets.

Is it really too much for posters to always be informed in an editing comment and for them to know when any form of imposed censorship has been judged to be necessary? in the opinion of virtually every forum sponsor, moderator, and host on the planet, yes.

especially when you add in "always".

secondly - be definition since the forum owner has the right to delete, edit, move, etc any posting strictly speaking the term "censorship" is invalid.?
Multiple threads combined, and the first thread was undeleted because I could see no reason for deletion.
Please remember that this is a thread about Winona Ryder, not about Mudcat Editing Policy.

That's it. The End. Finis. Schluss.

No further discussion of anything but Winona Ryder will be permitted in this thread.

Right off, I can't recall any film in which Winona Ryder played a likeable character. She seems to excel in portraying creepy people - but her characters certainly make you think.
I don't think I'd feel at ease having her living next door, but I have a lot of respect for her as an actress.

What???? What're you talkin' about, Joe? She has played likable characters in most of her films. A little bit quirky, maybe, but definitely likeable. She was tremendously likable in "Little Women", for instance, and also in "Welcome Back Roxy Carmichael", "Mermaids", "Reality Bites", "American Quilt", and "Bram Stoker's Dracula", to mention a few.

She played an unlikable character in "The Crucible".

Maybe she's just unlikeable Hawkster. She's kind of a bony, scraggly haired thing with a pretty well fogettable body and a whiny voice...................ooops, sorry....You like her doncha'? Well.........No accounting for taste and all that. My apologies.
