Subject: wild printer From: kendall Date: 27 Jul 00 - 08:39 AM Sometime ago Mudguard told me how to print just one page out of many, but, your instructions just dont work on my confuser. When I go to file menue, and hit Print, there is no dialog box, no radio button, no selection. Now what? I want to copy the words for the Griesly Bride, but, there are 72 other pages in that thread. |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: SDShad Date: 27 Jul 00 - 09:06 AM What browser are you using, Kendall? Netscape brings up the Print dialog even when you use the button on the toolbar, so if it's Netscape, I'd say reinstall. If it's Internet Explorer, it should come up from the menu, so if it doesn't I'd probably recommend the same thing. Our Windows 2000 Server trainer a couple of weeks ago said the standard troubleshooting cycle for all things Microsoft is 1) reboot 2) reinstall 3) add more memory. :-) Chris |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: MMario Date: 27 Jul 00 - 09:08 AM cut and paste. highlight the text; cut and paste into a word processor. |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Willie-O Date: 27 Jul 00 - 09:40 AM To expand slightly on what Mario's saying: click and drag your cursor over the text you want to print--it should highlight (don't accidentally activate a link--click around links not on them). Hit "copy" in your edit menu, or easier still Ctrl and C on your keyboard. The highlighted text --just what appears on the screen, not the HTML code-- is now on your Windows clipboard and you can paste it into any text editor or word processor, which is far preferable and faster than trying to print from your browser. Its not really cut and paste, you can't cut text from your browser, just copy. One final thing: if the line breaks make the text look weird when you have pasted it, there's ways of sorting that out. I use a dandy free multi-file text editor called Note Tab, which you can get free from Tucows.com . It's got a "join lines" function which cuts all those line breaks out and reformats a paragraph together. Best, Willie-O |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: SINSULL Date: 27 Jul 00 - 09:49 AM This should be interesting. The last time Kendall tried to print something, his printer went into overdrive and chased him out the door. There is always the pen and paper method. Or WO could PM you with the lyrics. Kendall? Kendall? Uhoh. |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: SDShad Date: 27 Jul 00 - 12:37 PM Hey (he says, bringing on thread creep), I've done the pen-and-paper printout method. I was on the road, in a cheap little motel in White River, South Dakota, wanted the words and chords to "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," and I had a laptop but no printer. Dialed up to the 'Net, found it, saved it to a text file, and then sat there transcribing it onto a brown paper sack (the only large spare bit of paper I had at the time). I think I still have the sack. C. |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: SINSULL Date: 27 Jul 00 - 01:18 PM Kendall, I have the same problem. It's either print the entire thread or nothing. Frustrating. Maybe someone with the right browser can copy it and email it to you or PM it so you can print. I was only half joking when I suggested this before. |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Mbo Date: 27 Jul 00 - 01:23 PM Try this? Highlight the text you want to print. Then when you go to print, click on "print selection" instead of "print all" and it will work. --M |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Mbo Date: 27 Jul 00 - 03:14 PM When you click "print" from the File Menu, contained within the Print Box, on the middle left-hand side should say "Print Range" there should be 2 options, "All", "Pages" and "Selection". Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: MMario Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:21 PM *ahem* Mbo? I don't have that either. Not on my computer here at work, which is netscape, nor on my computer at home, which is IE. On the other hand, my copy and paste works fine.... |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Mbo Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:23 PM Ok, I think I got it. I'm using Windows 98. Could that be the problem? I know that Windows NT has the feature as well, I've used it enough at the school library. |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: IvanB Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:34 PM kendall, when you press CTRL/c, although nothing appears to happen, the selected (highlighted) text is copied to the clipboard (which is nothing more than a temporary file Windows creates, usually in memory). Then, when you open Notepad, WordPad or some other word processor, you can press CTRL/v and the contents of the clipboard will be dumped on to your open page.

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Ebbie Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:45 PM (Just now I tried highlighting text and doing a Print Preview. When it came up, the page was blank!) The way it works for me, Kendall, is highlighting it, going to Edit, Copy then to File, New, and then Blank page. At that point, on the blank page, I can tweak it any way I wish, including printing it. Ebbie |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Mbo Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:47 PM Yet another difference! I don't have Print Preview on mt browser. Is it a Netscape thing? |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Sorcha Date: 27 Jul 00 - 05:34 PM Nope, because I have it on IE. You do have to paste if first, and click the file button, not the print button. It does not show in the print button, just in the file menu. |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Mbo Date: 27 Jul 00 - 05:51 PM It's easier to cut and paste using the mouse. Highlight the text, then click the right mouse button. That will bring up a little menu. Click "copy." Then open your word processing program, Word, Notepad, etc. Again click the right mouse button, and this time select "paste" your text will be pasted. --Matt (too busy to be bothered with memorizing billions of hotkeys) |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Bill D Date: 27 Jul 00 - 11:12 PM Kendall..do you HAVE a word processing program?...you DONT want to be printing from your browser..you need to open some sort of program to do that 'pasting' into they are talking about...you 'copy' the highlighted text you want, switch to the open program, 'paste'...then print from there... |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: catspaw49 Date: 27 Jul 00 - 11:18 PM I'm with Bill........Kendall. FIRST tell us what your system is. Is it 98....95.......are you uing Explorer or netscape or what? Is the thing powered by hamsters? Tell us what you have.......got a word proc program.....what printer? Spaw |
|
Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Bill D Date: 27 Jul 00 - 11:21 PM if you are in Windows95-98, you 'should' have a button that says 'start'...hit that, hold your mouse button down...move to 'programs', then slide over to 'accessories'...in THAT list should be something called 'Wordpad'. This is something you can paste those words into, if you don't have another program. |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Sorcha Date: 27 Jul 00 - 11:26 PM Somebody (preferrably somebody more literate than me) should PM kendall with absolute "click by click" instructions. That was what it took for me when I was just starting. I agree with Mbo that using the mouse is easier than the Control buttton + "X" button. I did finally figure it out, but it wasn't easy. Dont' feel bad kendall, it's a whole different world for us ancients. PS--it's very very OK to feel frustrated!! LOL, except that it is not funny when it is yourself. |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Bill D Date: 28 Jul 00 - 12:01 AM funny, this computer stuff came sort of easy for me..(NOT programming..my wife does that!)..just pushing buttons and figgering out what they do and 'seeing' models in my mind and translating it into 'how to'...and I started from a DEAD stand-still in Oct.96...it was VERY mysterious then, but now I do the downloading and installing and 'kicking the tires'....and I am 61.... (durn it, Kendall, if I could sit down there with you for an hour, we'd have you doing the equivlent of barred Fs on that damn machine!) |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Jul 00 - 05:11 PM Well Kendall......I think your stuff is busted. Honestly, like Bill, I too got into it late and in my case there's still a lot of things that this computer can do that I can't. But if your printer starts printing without any setup screen at all, there's something wrong in the printer setup. Some box or another isn't checked. I run 98 with IE and if I do what I said above, clicking FILE gets me a dropdown and PRINT ios on the dropdown. Clicking PRINT brings up a PRINT WINDOW that gives me the other info. Sorry, I can't be there either. Got anybody local who knows something? Spaw |

Subject: RE: Help: wild printer From: Bill D Date: 28 Jul 00 - 05:31 PM yes.
