I read a thread about Mudcatters listening to each other's music and the idea of a Mudcat compilation was mooted, although I do not know if anything is happening. At any rate, I would certainly like to hear some more of your music. In the past week, I received excellent CDs from Larry (InOBU/Sorcha Dorcha) and McGrath of Harlow. After earfuls of the vapid woofle which pollutes the airwaves, I am hungry for more.Is anyone up for a swap? In return I can offer one of my own efforts. I am guilty of a bit of singer/songwriting, so if you are suspicious of that sort of thing, you can check out a couple of songs on my website first:www.alan.free-pop.com

Just got alan's CD yesterday. Some great stuff on it - including some brilliant fiddle backing on one called Johnny Petto.

I'm building up quite a heap of Mudcat CDs now - and I find I'm listening to them more than I do the others on my shelf.

I know I like ironic, offensive, argumentative, bolshy, sarcastic you name it postings...but to get soft and wet for a minute if you swap music with mudcatters, just the same as if you swap opinions, you'll get honesty and you'll get love. you can't put a price on it.

Just finished checking your website, and loved it! I like anyone that can create music and mayhem at the same time. I couldn't get your sound samples to work though...might be me and a slow connection.

On a side note...I noticed your last album was recorded at First Night Annapolis. My band played there too! It was probably 91 or 92 that we were there...is the venue still as much fun?

Robin2, yeah, 1st nights still a hoot! We love doing it. This was our 3rd year running, and we're not burned out yet. One of the things I *love* about that event is that I can take my daughter along with me and enjoy New Years with her. We'll be doing a promotional cruise for 1sr Night this July as well.

Greg, My post office is about a mile away. That's not the problem. The problem is I have no time. Literally. What little time I have is spent at home waiting for the last coat of primer to dry so I can paint another room.

Ah, the joys of homeownership! In any case, between rehearsals, working a full time job, homemade remodeling, and raising a kid, no, I don't get even around the corner that often.

And yes...the world must have been snagged by aliens. I know, because my little girl actually cleaned her room without being asked. Must be a pod person! ;D

Thanks everyone, I'll start mailing this evening. It is going to cost me a fortune in postage, but I should be able to get stuff in the post on Tuesday, as I am away all day tomorrow. I'll check out your site Celtic Soul. Traditional music is just fine, Charcloth. I do my own stuff, but there is plenty of good old music as well as plenty of bad new music. (Just turn on your radio!) I never wanted to hear another hundred guys who sound like me. I can hear that any day. The fiddle on Johnny Petto, by the way, is played by Klaus der Geiger. There is a link to his site from mine, although unfortunately only those of you with a little German will understand anything. I rate Klaus as one of the world's greatest folk musicians. He is a former member of the Boston Philharmonic and the LA Philharmonic. He "dropped out" some thirty years ago to become a busking folk singer. He plays an amazing mixture of folk, blues, jazz, rock, classical and gypsy styles. As a fiddler, his technique is astonishing, but it goes much deeper than that. He is a unique personality and a model of integrity. For the first twenty odd years I knew him I stood back a bit, because I was so in awe of the man. That was a pity, because now I know him better I like him a lot and admire him no less. I had better shut up now, as it is time to write down a few addresses. Thanks folks.

My band's name is Ten Penny Bit, and we're from Louisville KY. Haven't been to your neck of the woods for a while, but we loved it when we were there. East coast does a good job supporting the folk arts I think. We are planning a tour to NJ, and one to NC later this year.

Do you guys ever get farther west?

The furthest West we will be is St, Louis this coming Memorial Day weekend.

The furthest South is Key West.

Ironically, I used to live in Clarksville, TN/Hopkins (?), KY. on Ft. Campbell. I was a lot closer then, that's for sure. I used to drive through Louisville (if I am remembering correctly) on my way back to this area for trips and gigs.

I would have to completely agree with your assessment of rhe east coast. It is very supportive of folk music, and other forms of theater and the arts.

Let us know when you'll be in NJ. Much of NJ isn't *too* far! I'd love to come up and see you if it's doable.

OOOH. This sounds like fun. I'll swap with anyone who PM's me. I love hearing other peoples recordings... I have a 8-9 song demo I'd love to get some feedback on. I would also be interested in how the songs were recorded, and with what equipment. Who wrote them, and why they were written. So include that stuff with your CD.

Incidentally, we could just post our stuff on MP3.com, and pull it off at will....(but so could everyone else, i suppose....)

Ian's suggestion sounds good to me. (So does his CD.) I'm starting to lose track.

The other idea that's occurred to me is sending CDs to people who ask for them, and asking them to make a donation to the Mudcat. I've done that a couple of times -but that was before the CD swap idea came up. Maybe there's a way off combining things - every time you get back a CD you like, stick a donation in the post or the bank for Mudcat?

If there was such a list maybe it could also carry links to Mudcatters with their songs up on websites with RealAudio or MP3 or whatever.

In other words, a list of Mudcatters with their songs or tunes available, either by CD swap or by download.

Others Catboxers: Anyone who is interested in a swap with me beware: 1. I only tape; 2. I'm slow since I make each one personally with intros to songs and stories; 3. I'm a tad roudy and not traditional (Ask Kendall, Jerry, Kat, Spawzer or CarolC) so if you're just into traditional folk, I don't do it and 4. no slick recording studio for this old hippie, fir sure. But, if ya' like original singer-songwriter stuff with no backup, no slick recording studio sound with a little punch to it and are willing to wait up to a month for a tape, then PM me 'cause you got the right guy.

I believe that the songs are effectively copyrighted by being on the album. They are certainly all registered with GEMA, the German equivalent of PRS, which collects songwriting royalties. If you want to sing 'em go ahead. I am most flattered. Oddly enough, three of the songs were co-written with Rob Taylor, who has recently topped the dance charts over here! I apologize folks I'm running a little behind with getting back to you all
For those intersted I have a very limited number of CD's with my FORMER duo But I have a goodly number of my solo tape. The CD has 7 cuts taken from my tape & 7 cuts taken from my former partner's work. I LIKE MY TAPE BETTER.
Any way my stuff is mostly Celtic/Folk with some Appalachain type stuff as well. Sorta in the Corries style.
If you are interested let me know which you want. I'd like to share with as many as are willing.
