Subject: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: alanabit Date: 13 Apr 02 - 01:40 PM I read a thread about Mudcatters listening to each other's music and the idea of a Mudcat compilation was mooted, although I do not know if anything is happening. At any rate, I would certainly like to hear some more of your music. In the past week, I received excellent CDs from Larry (InOBU/Sorcha Dorcha) and McGrath of Harlow. After earfuls of the vapid woofle which pollutes the airwaves, I am hungry for more.Is anyone up for a swap? In return I can offer one of my own efforts. I am guilty of a bit of singer/songwriting, so if you are suspicious of that sort of thing, you can check out a couple of songs on my website first:www.alan.free-pop.com |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: alanabit Date: 13 Apr 02 - 05:01 PM Dear me. What an awful sentence I wrote in that last post! I am not eager for more vapid woofle, I am eager to hear some more interesting songs. Who has got some? |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: michaelr Date: 13 Apr 02 - 05:06 PM Alan - I'll be happy to swap. Please PM me with your address. Michael P.S. "vapid woofle" - I like it! LOL! |

Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: greg stephens Date: 13 Apr 02 - 05:20 PM PM with the greatest pleasure and let the swap commence.I hve acquired some wonderful treats from Mudcat swaps and am eager for more. I can't guarantee you'll get the vapid woofle you're lookin for but I do my best. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Charcloth Date: 13 Apr 02 - 05:59 PM Sure Why not? I'd kinda like to hear other folks as well. But I don't write many songs I prefer to sing mostly traditional type stuff. Most of my originals are worse than "Achy Breaky heart" :)PM me if you are intersted. Charcloth |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: greg stephens Date: 13 Apr 02 - 06:14 PM I'm intrigued, charcloth.PM me as well.If you can write a worse song than Achy Breaky Heart youmust have something about you. That sounds like a Lifetime Achievement Award to me. Let's swap |

Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Robin2 Date: 13 Apr 02 - 06:28 PM Sure, I'd love to swap...drop me a PM, and we'll do it Anyone else want to swap with me? I'd love to hear some of you Mudcatters, and I'll be happy to send along my band's newest effort. Robin |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: harpmaker Date: 13 Apr 02 - 06:51 PM We recently swopped our CD with Bill/Sables, 'Briging the gap', and we love it! We would love to swap mudcatters CDs for a copy of ours- Oxytocin PM us With your address John&Christine |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Apr 02 - 07:06 PM Just got alan's CD yesterday. Some great stuff on it - including some brilliant fiddle backing on one called Johnny Petto.
I'm building up quite a heap of Mudcat CDs now - and I find I'm listening to them more than I do the others on my shelf. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: greg stephens Date: 13 Apr 02 - 07:20 PM I know I like ironic, offensive, argumentative, bolshy, sarcastic you name it postings...but to get soft and wet for a minute if you swap music with mudcatters, just the same as if you swap opinions, you'll get honesty and you'll get love. you can't put a price on it. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Apr 02 - 07:28 PM The nervous thing is when you get it and you put it on, and you're worried that you're going to find you just aren't on the same wavelength as this friend you've made over the net, and that you are going to hate it.
And the thing is, it just hasn't happened yet. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Celtic Soul Date: 13 Apr 02 - 07:28 PM Would love to, but have less time than money, and so cannot afford the postage or the trip to the post office. You can hear a clip or 2 at our website, however. And we can be found fairly frequently being played at "RenRadio". www.pyrates.com www.renradio.com

Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Robin2 Date: 13 Apr 02 - 07:52 PM Celtic Soul, Just finished checking your website, and loved it! I like anyone that can create music and mayhem at the same time. I couldn't get your sound samples to work though...might be me and a slow connection. On a side note...I noticed your last album was recorded at First Night Annapolis. My band played there too! It was probably 91 or 92 that we were there...is the venue still as much fun? Robin |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: greg stephens Date: 13 Apr 02 - 07:57 PM You pick up such interesting stuff here.how far is the post office, celtic soul? Where do you live? Here in England, the Post Office has just changed its name to Consignia. Has the world been secretly conquered by aliens? |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Celtic Soul Date: 13 Apr 02 - 10:05 PM Robin2, yeah, 1st nights still a hoot! We love doing it. This was our 3rd year running, and we're not burned out yet. One of the things I *love* about that event is that I can take my daughter along with me and enjoy New Years with her. We'll be doing a promotional cruise for 1sr Night this July as well. Greg, My post office is about a mile away. That's not the problem. The problem is I have no time. Literally. What little time I have is spent at home waiting for the last coat of primer to dry so I can paint another room. Ah, the joys of homeownership! In any case, between rehearsals, working a full time job, homemade remodeling, and raising a kid, no, I don't get even around the corner that often. And yes...the world must have been snagged by aliens. I know, because my little girl actually cleaned her room without being asked. Must be a pod person! ;D |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Celtic Soul Date: 13 Apr 02 - 10:10 PM Robin2! I forgot to ask...what band are you with, are you still out there playing, and where can you be seen??? Always looking for good folk to see in these whereabouts. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: alanabit Date: 14 Apr 02 - 09:51 AM Thanks everyone, I'll start mailing this evening. It is going to cost me a fortune in postage, but I should be able to get stuff in the post on Tuesday, as I am away all day tomorrow. I'll check out your site Celtic Soul. Traditional music is just fine, Charcloth. I do my own stuff, but there is plenty of good old music as well as plenty of bad new music. (Just turn on your radio!) I never wanted to hear another hundred guys who sound like me. I can hear that any day. The fiddle on Johnny Petto, by the way, is played by Klaus der Geiger. There is a link to his site from mine, although unfortunately only those of you with a little German will understand anything. I rate Klaus as one of the world's greatest folk musicians. He is a former member of the Boston Philharmonic and the LA Philharmonic. He "dropped out" some thirty years ago to become a busking folk singer. He plays an amazing mixture of folk, blues, jazz, rock, classical and gypsy styles. As a fiddler, his technique is astonishing, but it goes much deeper than that. He is a unique personality and a model of integrity. For the first twenty odd years I knew him I stood back a bit, because I was so in awe of the man. That was a pity, because now I know him better I like him a lot and admire him no less. I had better shut up now, as it is time to write down a few addresses. Thanks folks. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Robin2 Date: 14 Apr 02 - 04:20 PM Celtic Soul, My band's name is Ten Penny Bit, and we're from Louisville KY. Haven't been to your neck of the woods for a while, but we loved it when we were there. East coast does a good job supporting the folk arts I think. We are planning a tour to NJ, and one to NC later this year. Do you guys ever get farther west? Robin |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Celtic Soul Date: 14 Apr 02 - 06:46 PM The furthest West we will be is St, Louis this coming Memorial Day weekend. The furthest South is Key West. Ironically, I used to live in Clarksville, TN/Hopkins (?), KY. on Ft. Campbell. I was a lot closer then, that's for sure. I used to drive through Louisville (if I am remembering correctly) on my way back to this area for trips and gigs. I would have to completely agree with your assessment of rhe east coast. It is very supportive of folk music, and other forms of theater and the arts. Let us know when you'll be in NJ. Much of NJ isn't *too* far! I'd love to come up and see you if it's doable.

Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: khandu Date: 14 Apr 02 - 06:47 PM Alan's link. This one and this one are Celtic Soul's links. Did I miss any? khandu |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: khandu Date: 14 Apr 02 - 07:02 PM While the Powers work on the broken link (Sorry, Alan!), I will add this: I will happily trade CD's with any Catter...as soon as I make mine! (Hopefully quite soon!) khandu |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Charcloth Date: 14 Apr 02 - 08:47 PM This really cool I have wanted to check out every one any way. I think swapping tapes is a grand idea. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: 53 Date: 14 Apr 02 - 11:02 PM I'll share, so PM me with your address. Bob |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Paul Mitchell Date: 15 Apr 02 - 04:35 AM I'll do a seedy, sorry, C.D. swap. Sounds like fun. PM me your address and I'll get one off to you. Paul |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Spartacus Date: 15 Apr 02 - 09:16 AM OOOH. This sounds like fun. I'll swap with anyone who PM's me. I love hearing other peoples recordings... I have a 8-9 song demo I'd love to get some feedback on. I would also be interested in how the songs were recorded, and with what equipment. Who wrote them, and why they were written. So include that stuff with your CD. Incidentally, we could just post our stuff on MP3.com, and pull it off at will....(but so could everyone else, i suppose....) -Spartacus |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Cappuccino Date: 15 Apr 02 - 10:39 AM So will I. But this could all get a bit confusing, couldn't it... be nice to have a webpage showing which Catters' CDs are available for swap, wouldn't it? Anyone want to do it? Or shall I use a bit of my site, he volunteered wildly? In any case, our stuff is Christian folk/blues. New CD coming in a few weeks. Anyone want to swap, just PM me. - Ian B |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Robin2 Date: 15 Apr 02 - 10:03 PM Ian, I think you have a great idea! I was already trying to keep track of who I'm sending to, and who was sending to me, and did I miss anyone? This could be another way for us to share. What do you all think? I know there is going to be a mudcat CD, but is there also room for a CD swap among members? Robin |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 15 Apr 02 - 10:45 PM I'd love to swap. BTW is "vapid Woofle" anything like a soggy pancake? |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Llanfair Date: 16 Apr 02 - 05:26 AM I think a webpage would be a great idea. I can't volunteer 'cos I haven't got a website yet. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: alanabit Date: 16 Apr 02 - 09:15 AM Hi folks. Morticia, Llanfair, Charcloth, Michael R, Robin2 and Spartacus, your albums are on the way. They will take about two weeks to arrive. If I have overlooked PMing anyone with my address or to get yours, please PM me. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Apr 02 - 11:09 AM Ian's suggestion sounds good to me. (So does his CD.) I'm starting to lose track.
The other idea that's occurred to me is sending CDs to people who ask for them, and asking them to make a donation to the Mudcat. I've done that a couple of times -but that was before the CD swap idea came up. Maybe there's a way off combining things - every time you get back a CD you like, stick a donation in the post or the bank for Mudcat? |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Cappuccino Date: 16 Apr 02 - 01:37 PM Perhaps I've got it arse-about-face, if you'll forgive the Anglicism. Would Max put up a page on Mudcat, titled 'Mudcatters CDs available for swapping', and brief details of each? Far easier than travelling elsewhere. If it's inconvenient, then OK - I'll put a swaps page up on my site! - Ian B |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: MMario Date: 16 Apr 02 - 01:53 PM Why not run it by Pene? as part of the "Mudcat Resources" ? |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Apr 02 - 02:18 PM If there was such a list maybe it could also carry links to Mudcatters with their songs up on websites with RealAudio or MP3 or whatever.
In other words, a list of Mudcatters with their songs or tunes available, either by CD swap or by download. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Bobert Date: 16 Apr 02 - 03:11 PM Alanabit, Robin2, harpmaker, charcloth, Spartacus, IanB and McGrath of Harlow: I'm going to PM you all and work out an exchange. Others Catboxers: Anyone who is interested in a swap with me beware: 1. I only tape; 2. I'm slow since I make each one personally with intros to songs and stories; 3. I'm a tad roudy and not traditional (Ask Kendall, Jerry, Kat, Spawzer or CarolC) so if you're just into traditional folk, I don't do it and 4. no slick recording studio for this old hippie, fir sure. But, if ya' like original singer-songwriter stuff with no backup, no slick recording studio sound with a little punch to it and are willing to wait up to a month for a tape, then PM me 'cause you got the right guy. Bobert |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: SharonA Date: 16 Apr 02 - 03:16 PM If I had a decent CD to swap with y'all, I'd be happy to! One of these days I'll have to get on the stick and record something. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Homeless Date: 16 Apr 02 - 04:09 PM If Max and Pene don't want to put the effort into adding the list in question to the Resources at this time, I could add it as a subpage to the Mudcat Market (which you can get to via the Quick Links). Has anyone checked with them yet? |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 16 Apr 02 - 07:20 PM McGrath of harlow has quite an idea there. It would be a logical extension of what's we're all doing with Mudcat anyway. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Robin2 Date: 16 Apr 02 - 09:46 PM Bobert, Sure, please sure to PM me and I'll stick one in the mail for you! McGrath, your idea to let Mudcat benefit from this is a great idea. I think I'll set aside some change everytime I receive a tape or CD from someone. I've got Mp3's up, so I like that link suggestion as well Although I think a link at mudcat itself would be great, Ian is being very generous with his offer. Let us know if you need any help, I'll be glad to help out if I can Robin |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Cappuccino Date: 17 Apr 02 - 02:49 AM Bobert, there's plenty of other old hippies here! And I've had to ask people to give me a week or two to get something finished, too. And yes, of course I'll do it on cassette. Slick recording studio? Well, the equipment is OK... it's just this old hippie using it that's the problem! - Ian B

Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Llanfair Date: 18 Apr 02 - 10:06 AM Alanabit, your CD arrived this morning. I only had time to listen to a few songs, and they are great!!! Can't wait to hear the rest. It's all original stuff, but is it copyrighted? am I allowed to play them when I get our folknight up and running again? Thanks a lot, Alan, this was a great idea of yours. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: alanabit Date: 18 Apr 02 - 01:23 PM If you like the noise on my website Kim, PM me and I'll be happy to swap. But for the extraodinary talent, industry and generosity of Markus Apitius, I would never have got a CD, so I am happy to share. Thanks for your kind remarks Llanfair. I believe that the songs are effectively copyrighted by being on the album. They are certainly all registered with GEMA, the German equivalent of PRS, which collects songwriting royalties. If you want to sing 'em go ahead. I am most flattered. Oddly enough, three of the songs were co-written with Rob Taylor, who has recently topped the dance charts over here! I don't know anything about that pop star world. For me he is an old friend for the busking scene! He's a good bloke too. Keep us posted Sharon. Thanks everyone.Alan. |

Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Charcloth Date: 18 Apr 02 - 10:17 PM I apologize folks I'm running a little behind with getting back to you all For those intersted I have a very limited number of CD's with my FORMER duo But I have a goodly number of my solo tape. The CD has 7 cuts taken from my tape & 7 cuts taken from my former partner's work. I LIKE MY TAPE BETTER. Any way my stuff is mostly Celtic/Folk with some Appalachain type stuff as well. Sorta in the Corries style. If you are interested let me know which you want. I'd like to share with as many as are willing. |
Subject: RE: Will anybody swap their CD with me? From: Cappuccino Date: 19 Apr 02 - 02:31 AM Yes, I too am running a bit behind but am hoping to get some CDs/tapes prepared this weekend. Thanks for the interest, those who PM'd!!! - ian B |
