No packages from Santa Squid received yet. It doesn't feel like the Christmas season yet, prolly cuz the landscape is unseasonally the same color as a brown paper grocery bag. But when I get the package and rip it open, I'm sure to get in a festive mood!

It was 70 a week or so ago, then we woke up to 4" of snow on Sunday -- didn't last long, as the temps went back up to 50-ish. Today is foggy, rainy, and now, of course, dark. Not December in New Hampshire weather. Landscape still the color of above said grocery bag. Whole world looks dirty and in need of a good scrubbing, despite the rain. Looks like March, but it's warmer. Go figure. Not complaining, really, about lack of snow and cold though. Looks pretty, but I really hate driving in the stuff. And the firewood pile is maintaining well.

Actually I have fond memories of walking on the beach in Kennebunkport. ME in the rain on Christmas Day 1979, only person in sight, singing my head off scaring the gulls, trying to keep the rain from washing my contacts out.

Despite Thanksgiving having shown up right on schedule, it just doesn't seem like it should be Christmas yet. (Spent the day trying to get into the mood by listening to Nowell Sing We Clear CDs and tapes and Maddy Prior's seasonal CD. I'm not sure if it's worked or not.)

But it looks as if my apartment is sold and I may have a temporary home in Portland lined up. And I started Christmas shopping today. So all is well.
I witnessed an average of one fight per store. Nothing physical just nasty screaming. Is this just a New York thing or do people celebrate the holidays oddly all over the world? The best was when a woman paid for an item and the clerk dropped it. It shattered into a million pieces and the clerk claimed that since it could not be returned in working order, she would not issue a credit. HEE HEE HEE! The fifty people waiting on line to pay weren't nearly as amused as I was.

Big Mick should be receiving his gift shortly -- at least, by Epiphany, in all liklihood, via FedEx.

Unfortunately, we at the Workshop have been dealing with several technical diffeculties, which has led to delays, but everything seems to be running smoothly at the moment (Off the record, the machinery is being held together by duct tape and pixie dust... We'll have to shut down for a week after New Year's Day to get everything running properly)

THANKS SANTA! (and you're not bad!) I shouldn't expect it until a full week from now or later anyhow. It sounds like it might come in time for Solstice - if so - I'll open it at my church's big Solstice celebrate (in which I'm in charge of the spiral dance and the bonfire).

I really expected (by the info the U.S. post office gave me that Alison's gift wouldn't get to her until about this time (4 to 6 weeks after I sent it) and she received it in little over a week. Go figure. Clearly, my package fit the last little hole on the nonstop jet from Orlando to Sidney (hell, I could have handed it to a tourist flying back, but the airport keeps having these announcements saying NOT to do that...)

Anyway, I'm blithering, because I'm excited.

I've got three kitties now, surely I could spare one... not Shadow, she's my special one. And Max is kind of sweet to have around even if he does try to sniff your underwear. Not mine Liz. They weigh upwards of 17 pounds apiece. The only useful purpose I can suggest is rendering them down for soap.Even the kitten is getting a bit pudgy.

Aren't puma's endangered? The Florida panther (a subspecies of the puma) is very endangered - only a hundred or so.

Oops - I'm wrong in my thought - just checked the World Almanac - Florida panthers are endangered and Easter cougars are endangered but nothing is said about the western type. So - how cna one get ahold of some tasty puma meat?

Kendall - seven threads ago (so it has been a while) - just before GETAWAY if I remember correctly - Clinton suggested Mudcatters do a "secret santa" gift exchange. it was setup and has been going on for a while. search on secret santa - or follow the links backwards and you should be able to catch up on a lot of it.
