Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Are you kissing more now (Homer & Jet From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Nov 10 - 05:28 PM The song was surely inspired by an advertising campaign for Camel cigarettes that used the slogan "Are you smoking more now but enjoying it less?" Billboard magazine, from August 18, 1962, reviews a single by Homer & Jethro called ARE YOU KISSING MORE NOW (BUT ENJOYING IT LESS) (Lyle-Hollyjo, ASCAP) b/w SHE THINKS I DON'T CARE (Glad-Jack, BMI) – RCA Victor 8075. Allmusic.com also says that ARE YOU KISSING MORE NOW can be found on the album "The Very Best of Bill & Boyd" (2003). I transcribed the following words from a sound sample of that recording: ...but I heard a report Things are not as great as you thought. Are you kissin' more now but enjoyin' it less? Do you find there's somethin' missin' after ev'ry caress? And if the pleasure's not there like you thought it would be, Well, you can't switch back to me. You go out with guys, And you.... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Are You Kissing More Now (Homer & Jethro) From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 23 Nov 10 - 11:00 AM Can't help with the kissing song, but your question moved me to go to YouTube and look up H & J. I listened to a parody of 'He'll Have to Go.' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7D0Pd-luwE I'm amazed! If that's either Homer or Jethro himself, he's got the best male voice I've ever heard singing country. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Are You Kissing More Now (Homer & Jet From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Nov 10 - 12:53 PM Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's Homer Haynes as the lead singer in that parody. You can find H&J's words here. The lyrics to the original hit by Jim Reeves are in the message right above that one. Homer & Jethro were fine instrumentalists. In addition to their parodies, they made several "straight" albums with Chet Atkins, performing as The Nashville String Band. I think all their albums are out of print. As part of another group called the Country All-Stars (which also included Atkins) they recorded another album called "Jazz from the Hills" which has been re-released as a CD. (Or maybe that's a compilation; I'm not sure.) But I think those albums might be all-instrumental—no singing at all. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Are You Kissing More Now (Homer & Jethro) From: GUEST,rkb Date: 28 Nov 10 - 12:20 AM Thanks for your help Used to have the words but somewhere along the line they were lost. Fairly sure the song goes back further than 1962, Camel and had 3 or 4 verses? Was a good tune regards |
Subject: Lyr Req: ARE YOU KISSING MORE NOW (Homer & Jethro) From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Oct 11 - 12:25 AM I finally heard this on Spotify. Here's my transcription: ARE YOU KISSING MORE NOW (BUT ENJOYING IT LESS)? As sung by Homer & Jethro on the various-artists compilation "Smokin' – Cigarettes & Reefer" (2011): 1. You said we were through. Ever' night you dated someone new. But I heard a report Things are not as great as you thought. CHORUS: Are you kissing more now but enjoying it less? Do you find there's something missing after ev'ry caress? And if the pleasure's not there like you thought it would be, Well, you can't switch back to me. 2. You go out with guys, And you keep believin' all their lies, But they're just havin' fun, And they put you down when they're done. CHORUS 3. Someday you will find I'm the only one who's on your mind, But on that fateful day, I will look at you and I will say: CHORUS One more time! CHORUS Well, you can't switch back to me. Well, you can't switch back to me. (REPEAT AND FADE) |
