Shane has written some amazing lyrics, amomg "A Rainy night in Soho" one of Eyelanders favorites, when she sings it to me I just crumble.

For those interested in the song (ahem, the original focus of the thread), you may want to watch the documentary done by the BBC, which I discovered last year on YouTube. There are six parts, but well worth the time.

BTW - is this the only documentary on a particular song that the Bebe has done? I haven't found others.

I spent the Advent season working retail in a British imports shop where I was forced to listen to the "great" Irish Tenors' Christmas album, "We Three Kings" over and over and over. They sing a bowdlerized version of "Fairytale" that removes all the ironic and angry dialogue lines, gutting the song completely and turning it into just another saccharine bit of holiday schmaltz. Makes me yearn for another spin of Kirsty (God rest her soul) & Shane (God make him sober)on the turntable.

Mostly, it makes me miss Kirsty...and wish I could take "We Three Kings" and smash the CD to smithereens.

There was an attempt this year to get Sean Ryder and Stacey Solomon from I'm a celebrity get me out of here fame to record the song in time for the christmas number one slot.
Time was against them so it didn't happen.

another Mudcatter, Monique, who takes responsibility for a thread listing songs sung at the Mudcat singarounds in languages other than English, told me that someone sang an Irish language translation of Fairytale of New York Monday night. It hadn't been posted on the 'Cat previously, so I searched elsewhere for the lyrics.

I don't know who translated the song. It was performed in Irish by Fred McCluskey, Ger Maher & Ailbhe Hession for TG4 (Irish language tv station)

I have yet to see it.
How does
"Fairytale of New York" fare in Shane's life story on film?

personal aside:
I would love, in some alternate reality,
to hear the song as a duet between
Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton.
