I'm looking to male chocolate cookies, not chocolate chip which are crunchy rather than chewy or cakey.

Chocolate Brownies

1 1/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder (5 ml)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter (250 ml)
1 cup Fry's cocoa (or other 'Dutch' style)
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla
Optional-
1 cup chopped nuts

Stir together flour, baking powder, salt in small bowl.
Melt butter in saucepan;
Remove from heat and stir in cocoa (sift if clumped)
Blend in sugar, eggs, vanilla.
Blend in dry ingredients and nuts.

Pour batter into greased 9 x 13 x 2 inch pan.
Bake in pre-heated 350 F (180 C) oven for 30-35 minutes or until done. Cool and enjoy.
Slightly modified from recipe on container of Fry's Cocoa. Excellent recipe. Fry's is unsweetened.

Chocolate Cookies

1 cup butter (250 ml), very soft
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (10 ml)
2 cups flour
2/3 cups Fry's cocoa (sifted if clumped)
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 to 1 cup chocolate chips or nuts.

Cream first four ingredients together until light and fluffy.
Combine dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Mix well.
Mix in nuts or chips.
Drop by teaspoonful on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8-10 minutes at 350 F.
Makes 5 dozen (depends on whether one or more teaspoon of dough dropped on cookie sheet).

Not bad, but the brownies better.
