Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 28 Jul 01 - 09:05 AM I expect to be there from the 3rd to the 17th, but, that is not carved in stone yet. I'm still looking for the best flight so I dont arrive at 5 am, or have to leave here at some un godly hour. At this point, I plan to be in Hampshire, taking advantage of Morticia, I mean, her hospitality! then, I want to get up to Yorkshire to see Bill and Noreen, 'course I gotta see Sherwood Forest, and, I also want to get to Llanstock. Maybe Stonehenge and Glastonbury. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Noreen Date: 28 Jul 01 - 09:54 AM looking forward, Kendall! Noreen |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: running.hare Date: 28 Jul 01 - 03:50 PM & there was me thinking Kendall Mint cake! I'll just go now shall I? *creeps slowly away unnoticed* |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 28 Jul 01 - 03:51 PM Kendall, if you look like getting to Sherwood Forest, let me know - I live in it. (Or where it used to be.) Don't want to put you off your plans, but there are many more interesting areas of England/UK you might want to take in first. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 28 Jul 01 - 03:57 PM Should have said that two nearby towns have folk clubs - Mansfield's is Tuesday nights, Newark's Wednesday nights. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: bill\sables Date: 28 Jul 01 - 04:58 PM You're very welcome as I have said before to stay with us Not so sure about the Jug though we have a person there who does not like visitors. Bill |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: SINSULL Date: 28 Jul 01 - 05:02 PM Wonderful news. Kendall! Or are you leaving the country to avoid prosecution for the alledged crime mentioned in that other thread? |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 28 Jul 01 - 06:26 PM I'm not lucky, just well heeled and single! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 28 Jul 01 - 06:29 PM Are you telling me that Sherwood is no more? Damn, I wanted to stand there and sing LONESOME ROBIN. Maybe I'll settle for the town square in Nottingham. Is that nasty sheriff still around? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 28 Jul 01 - 07:29 PM There's a mighty tree, known as the Mighty Oak, which is certainly a few hundred years old; there are a few hundred acres of mature forest, and a few thousand of forestry plantations. And Nottingham's castle is hugely eclipsed by many others, but the city does claim to have the oldest pub in Britain, the Trip to Jerusalem. It was from there (allegedly) that Robin and his merry men set forth on King Richard's crusade against Saladin. Until a year or two ago, you could at least have visited "the World of Robin Hood," built around the set of the Kevin Costner film, but I'm afraid even that's gone now. Maybe the sheriff is still in office though, because someone keeps hiking up the council tax. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peg Date: 28 Jul 01 - 08:26 PM Nottingham is quite a lovely town, but no, there is no forest really left anymore...you might like the Forest of Dean in Oxfordhsire (I think? or is it Hampsire?) I think you'd love Glastonbury, and if you go to Stonehenge plan to stay in Salisbury, and to visit Avebury (a much more accessible stone circle built around a tiny village) while you are the area.. Peg

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 28 Jul 01 - 09:48 PM Sherwood is special to me, Robin Hood has been a hero of mine since I was a boy. It might be a stretch for me to sing about a man who doesn't exist in a forest that doesn't exist. I always knew I was born 800 years too late. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peg Date: 28 Jul 01 - 10:06 PM well that oak is rather grand; I've seen it. Certainly worth a vsiit if you are really interested in Robin Hood...

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Midchuck Date: 28 Jul 01 - 10:16 PM I always knew I was born 800 years too late. 800 years ago, you'd have had to play a lute with gut strings and friction pegs. Want to try to tune one of those, and then to make any real noise on it? And, of course, there's very little chance either one of us would have lived to our present ages with the medical care and sanitation they had then - and I, at least, if I had, wouldn't have had a tooth left in my head, so I couldn't sing very well. I think probably every one of my teeth has at least one filling, but I still have them all. The interesting question to me is, if I'd been born 800 years in the future, would things be better or worse? Or would they be similiar to 800 years in the past? Peter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Maryrrf Date: 28 Jul 01 - 11:15 PM Definitely include Glastonbury, Kendall. I highly recommend it! |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: catspaw49 Date: 29 Jul 01 - 12:11 AM Sinsull alluded to Kendall's legal problems that he may be trying to escape and I think it's fair to warn all of you that his trip may have some ulterior motive. The Captain was recently arrested for exposing himself and has a suitcase full cut off pantlegs. Although he has been barred from purchasing trench coats in a 5 state area, I fear he is going to fly out of LaGuardia in New York where they don't know him......yet. So do be careful where you take him and do not give him any time alone...........except perhaps at the Jug where he can expose himself to any raving paranoids, and there seems to be at least one there. When the police searched his house they found a lot of articles on England, but specifically an awful lot of stuff about Charles and Camilla. My guess would be that he has a plan to expose himself to them. This is very logical as neither of them has any idea what a real penis looks like and although Kendall ain't much, he has Charlie beat hands down....or up....well, you know what I mean. Just wanted to let you all know..........just in case. Spaw

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 06:43 AM Spaw, you are certifiable! I dont know whem was the last time I laughed right out loud at 6:45 on a Sunday am!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 07:17 AM All you English and Welsh 'catters who would like to get together, would you please PM your address and phone number? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Morticia Date: 29 Jul 01 - 08:04 AM It's okay,Pat....I have warned the local constabulary and the Townswomens Guild, bail money is already set aside and I have several copies of Pervs R Us on order so he can make friends in the local area....all set, Kendall, you can arrive any time you like *BG*. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Lanfranc Date: 29 Jul 01 - 01:34 PM If you find yourself in the vicinity of North or East London, Hertfordshire or Essex it would be good to meet you. My attendance at Llanstock is dependent on workload, and at this point looks problematical. An evening or lunch in the above locations could be arranged, and, who knows, Micca and/or Liz the Squeak or even Kevin (McGrath of Harlow) or Gervase or any of the other South-East England 'catters might be able to attend. Will discuss it in the Snug on PalTalk next Thursday, and PM you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 01:58 PM Perves R us? What hath Spaw wrought? Terri, that is VERY funny! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Barry Finn Date: 29 Jul 01 - 06:03 PM Attention Overseas; Kendall has a very good & sometimes sharp sense of humor but he also has a Downeast accent, so at most times he appears to be slower than he really is, which is almost impossible, don't let him fool ya, he's quick to come at ya from the backside. I do love his songs & his singing though, come to think of it he's not half bad for Maine-e-ack. Wish you all well once he gets there & you too Kendall. Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Jul 01 - 06:48 PM If you're after Robin Hood, Whitby and nearby Robin Hood's Bay is the place to be. (With Kippers by Post.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Richard Bridge Date: 29 Jul 01 - 07:08 PM Kendall, I may be rude to you online but if you come to the Old House at Home pub in Pudding Lane in Maidstone in Kent there might be some music in Hazlitt Folk (upstairs ) on a Monday night. I thinks that's the month we have Dangerous Curves one Monday - a good bunch of women singers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 08:55 PM I dont recall your being rude to me?? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Noreen Date: 29 Jul 01 - 09:06 PM Hey, Kendall, this isn't BS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 09:10 PM Noreen ???? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 09:15 PM Thanks for warning them Barry, I understand the Dorcetshire accent is similar. They understood every word in Scotland. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 29 Jul 01 - 09:32 PM Kendall, my mum just gave me a bunch of Realm magazines; one has a bit of an article on Robin Hood and where to go in Britain to see related places. I'll try to remember to bring it to Champlain Valley FF! |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Barry Finn Date: 29 Jul 01 - 09:50 PM Hi Kendall, of course the folks in Dorcetshire understand the folks in Scotland they're neighbors. See what I mean folks, don't let this man touch English soil, no telling what he's capable of singing when the notion takes him. Good luck to the British Isles as we now know them. Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 29 Jul 01 - 11:21 PM Barry, what are you drinking? Dorcet is about 400 miles from Scotland. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Noreen Date: 30 Jul 01 - 06:37 AM I meant it is a music related thread, as I imagine you will be making music with us when you are in England? Therefore the BS title is erroneous. :0) Noreen |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: bill\sables Date: 30 Jul 01 - 07:09 AM Kendall, about half an hour drive from my home would bring you top Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire. In this village is the church where, ledgend says,Robin and Marrion got married. A walk away is the Oak tree mentioned earlier. It is worth seeing. They say that it was the tree where Robin kept his pantry and concealed himself when the Sherriff's men were near. In truth in the days of Robin Hood it would only have been an acorn. Patrish lives very near to the site of Kirklees Priory where Robin's grave is said to be, unfortunatly it is on private land and not accessable to the public. Bill |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 30 Jul 01 - 08:21 AM York is nice, What are your intersts? Are you going to be sightseeing, Meeting Mudcatters , or going to sessions? Or maybe all of these! Tell us your intersts and we can reccomend were to go. I f you have not already I definetly reccomend a book by Bill Bryson, it is called Notes From A Small Island, it is very funny as well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 30 Jul 01 - 08:33 AM At this point, nothing is carved in stone. I'm having another battle with depression, so, when this happens, I just want to become a recluse. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 30 Jul 01 - 09:41 AM Does your mood ever go to the other extreme, Kendall? If so you should check out a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN%3D068483183X/102-3726647-4829727">Touched with Fire: Manic-Depressive Illness & the Artistic Temperament by Kay Redfield Jamison where you will find confirmation that you are probably a creative genius (if you didn't know already). There's even a dedicated webring to which you can link your own website. Peg, the Major Oak must certainly have been rather grand once upon a time, though Californian Mudcatters might not have been that impressed. These days it is held up by an array of props, which admittedly become increasingly vestigial as the technology advances, but the effect is still rather demeaning and touristy. If you do make it to these parts, Kendall, don't forget to have a little gloat at Newark Castle, where Bad King John ended his days (after losing all his treasure in The Wash). |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 30 Jul 01 - 09:45 AM I'll just try to make good that failed blue clicky: Touched with Fire: Manic-Depressive Illness & the Artistic Temperament. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Hollowfox Date: 30 Jul 01 - 10:03 AM Ooo, you lucky duck! Safe journey, darlin'! (As I recall, there was an article in the Manchester Guardian about ten years ago telling that the then current Sheriff of Nottingham arranged to replace the arrow in a statue of Robin Hood after vandals stole it.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: kendall Date: 30 Jul 01 - 12:22 PM I dont think I'm Bi-polar, because my highs just feel like normal to me. If we draw a base line at zero, with extremes of ,say, 20 in each direction, my highs would be something like 5, and, my lows, 10-15. Right now, I'm about 12. As an example of a high, I probably hit 15 when I was told that I was going to record for Folk Legacy, and, a low of maybe, 15 when I got divorced. I've never been suicidal, although it has crossed my mind how easy it would be. I have a natural aversion to suicide, because I believe in re-incarnation, and, if you commit suicide, you have to come back as a public servant. Humor is the opiate of the melancholy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall in England From: Micca Date: 30 Jul 01 - 02:09 PM Kendall, If you need a bed in London(east) ditto Chanteyranger, PM me, we might be able to get a few stray 'catters together |
