Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Micca Date: 13 Jun 10 - 08:40 AM Long long time ago I can still remember how that lobster used to make me smile and I knew if I had a chance I could make that Lobster dance and maybe he'd be happy for a while But January made him shiver with all the snow that Maine delivers 2 foot on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I knew that I would take a slide If I tried to bring him back inside but something touched me deep inside the day the Lobster died So bye bye Mr Lobster Guy went to get myself a bevvy but the cool box was dry and If you were real Lobster you'd be in the stir fry and that would be a reason to die that would be a reason to die |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: SINSULL Date: 13 Jun 10 - 10:03 AM Thank you Mick. Now what about the other 35 verses? Larry is just too dirty to even consider mouth to mouth. Maybe I'll just nail his carcas to the shed wall. Poor guy. He was so happy in his tree. |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Rapparee Date: 13 Jun 10 - 10:06 PM Refresh. I simply MUST know the outcome of this. |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: katlaughing Date: 13 Jun 10 - 11:05 PM Ohmygawdsandgawdesses! So this is what I've been missing! Sins, remember the Rainbow Bridge? Larry will be waiting there for you. Let him go, honey...there comes a time, every vet can tell you, when ya just have to let go. Doesn't your new company building have a pool available to employees? Think of the fun you could have with a "new" Larry! |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Tinker Date: 13 Jun 10 - 11:59 PM Ya know if I can get out to the garage, I think his cousin may be hanging out on top of the shelving..... I know a very similar lobstah came home from Maine with me one summer.... those were the days my friends.... |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Stu Date: 14 Jun 10 - 07:25 AM Many years ago when I lived at home my mum was asked to look after a neighbours fish whilst they were on their hols. In one tank was a small freshwater lobster, the pride and joy of my mum's friend's hubby which he'd had for years and loved dearly. Off they went and when it came to the first feeding I went with mum to lend and hand and have a pike at this famous lobster. We'd been given full feeding instructions and spent a while dangling bits of prawn in front of said lobster with long tweezers but . . . nothing. Eventually we decided to wake it up and gave it a prod with the tweezers - nothing. Further tweezer probing ensued and disaster! Our worst fears were realised - the lobster was dead, ceased to be and we still had two weeks left to go before they came home. Needless to say, on their return I left it mum to go and break the news that his beloved lobster had keffed it within hours of them going away. Apparently, the chap was quite sad (although my suggestion the news might have been easier to swallow if we'd boiled the lobster, shelled it and stuck it in a buttie made of nice, crusty bread with a squirt of lemon and some marie-rose sauce was poo-pooed immediately). |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Ed T Date: 14 Jun 10 - 07:30 AM If he was red, he was most likely cooked anyway. Call Red lobster...they may have a recipe to reconstitute him....they possibly do this every day? |

|
Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: LadyJean Date: 14 Jun 10 - 11:29 PM Wholey's Market in Pittsburgh had a huge lobster of great age, that, after much discussion, they donated to the city aquarium. It promptly went to whatever afterlife awaits lobsters. It's shell is still on display, however. |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Rapparee Date: 14 Jun 10 - 11:40 PM May I suggest that Larry be properly waked at Getaway? Bagpipes, Taps, all that sort of thing. |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: SINSULL Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:05 AM Widow's weeds! Great idea. A workshop on lobsters in song and story. HMMMMMM Sugarfoot, did you refrigearate the mini-lobster for his family to wake...or did you flush him? |
|
Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Tinker Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:13 AM We could do black veils and red boas..... and black lace parasols I've a slightly cracked fish tank that would make an amazing "casket" for viewing ..... could be lined in black velvet.... The possibilities are endless |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Ed T Date: 15 Jun 10 - 11:21 AM I know, its not much of a rhyme, or poem....but I could not see the end of this thread without say'in a few words about Larry. I'll tell you tales Of lobster tails, agalmatophilia, vinyl, and PVC Inspired by spawn To resemble a prawn Larry's a true beauty of sea A novelty gift Inflated to lift Our spirits, like a "dama de viaje" Blow things deflate As a daily fate But, Larry stayed blown up in our tree With an air of contempt Larry was content Perched over our lives as a friend But, one day Larry heard A passerby's words What the hell is that lobster thing for? A question he asked As his tree hours passed What use do I serve being here? He pined for the sea To find family Who could answer this question of life He planned the escape A big break to make When the winds could loosen his ties On a June breezy night Larry took flight Free, escaping the tree as the plan Short freedom was found For, a fall to the ground Deflated Larry's seams beyond repair Not knowing, nor told How lives will unfold Nor, how it's all scripted to end We march to a fate Whether natural or fake With questions of why we are here Now, friend, look in the tree There's no Larry to see But, it does not mean that he's not there RIP |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: John MacKenzie Date: 15 Jun 10 - 11:44 AM Won't you join the dance? |
|
Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: SINSULL Date: 15 Jun 10 - 12:10 PM Ah Ed. I didn't realize how cruel it was to keep him in the tree. I thought he was happy. Maybe I should bury him at sea. Or will some poor unsuspecting dolphin choke to death on him? Cremation may be frowned upon by the town - burning rubber. Maybe i will just fold him away in a large box and bury him. Just think what archeologists will make of that three thousand years from now - he will still be in tact you know. |
|
Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Stu Date: 15 Jun 10 - 12:29 PM "Sugarfoot, did you refrigearate the mini-lobster for his family to wake...or did you flush him?" Actually, we left him there for two weeks in case we'd made some sort of lobster misdiagnosis and he was moulting or meditating or something, although in retrospect this probably had more to do with our squeamishness when it came to handling an expired crustacean rather than a genuine concern. I don't know how things went when his dad got back, but I'm willing to bet he was a little ripe by the time he was fished out, although we did keep the pump on in the tank. |
|
Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Rapparee Date: 15 Jun 10 - 12:30 PM You don't need a body for a wake. But why not load his body and all his possessions into a boat and send it out to sea afire, like the Vikings and folks used to do? Or bury him under a mound surrounded by sardines and other things to help him in the afterlife (a pump would be nice)? |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: SINSULL Date: 21 Jun 10 - 08:59 AM I have got you all now. Larry is now up for auction. A reverse auction. If you don't donate to the Michael Harrison Fund you may end up with Larry and his sister piece - the blue glitter 2" peacock made of bamboo. Bid now so I can remove your name from the list. |

Subject: RE: Obit: My Lobster Died From: Bat Goddess Date: 29 Jul 10 - 09:02 PM Oh, Mary! I know how heartsick you've been since Larry deflated into a faded puddle of his former self. Bat Goddess to the rescue! Last Saturday I adopted a NEW inflatable lobster and I'm keeping it safely tucked into the original box until I next see you (or can otherwise transport it to your abode). It will need to me inflated, of course, upon arrival. And I understand it has handles near its "ears" so it can be ridden by youngsters in your backyard pool. (The invisible one.) Linn |
