Now, it's Parker's birthday tomorrow, must get in the mood... where's the tequila....? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: MBSLynne Date: 08 Aug 07 - 05:07 AM Hello everyone. I really need this, having had to come back from Sidmouth at the end of the weekend. Post festival depression is much worse when you have to leave early. I bet you feel the same Phot? Could someone pour me a Pimms and hand me a smoked salmon sandwich please? Are there any young, fit males around to wave a fan over me while I enjoy them? (The Pimms and the sandwich I mean!) Love Lynne |

From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Aug 07 - 11:50 AM SRS rides into the side yard of the tavern on the back of a large ostrich, wearing the tattered remnants of a WWII era dress loaned to her by JennyO over in MOAB. "It's a long story. I'd like a cold Negra Modelo. Squid, stay where you are. I'll drag a chair up alongside you and share your shady umbrella." |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: ClaireBear Date: 08 Aug 07 - 02:47 PM MMario, just had a quick prowl on an Australian food site. Damper seems to be the Australian iteration, except it's baked in a round loaf rather than individual rolls...there are some other small differences, too (like a touch of sugar and the fact that it's sometimes made with water instead of milk), but on the whole the concept is the same. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: lady penelope Date: 08 Aug 07 - 02:50 PM Mmario, I know american biscuits and they don't translate to any other country at all!!! They really aren't quite like anything else. And the fact that americans have used the word biscuit to describe them, just adds to the confusion.... Just leave it as "you eat them with gravy" and leave their poor boggling imaginations to the rest of it! Right, I'm gonna need to stay here for a bit. Parker's family have decided to pay him a "quick birthday call".... It could be hours.... This most definitely calls for a Gibson, a relax in a deck chair and to let my mind wander as I watch the herds of wildebeast sweep majestically across the plain....... Pass the pickles... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: MBSLynne Date: 08 Aug 07 - 03:31 PM Sure Liz...I always carry some of the gloves around with me...here you go. They are useful for so many things: cleaning out the loo, henna-ing one's hair. Thanks Cats. Mmmmmmm, that's nice. My voice was very croaky when I got home too, despite the good accoustics in the higher Middle Bar. And I forgot to buy any clotted cream to try your ice-cream recipe. Do you think you could PM it to me btw? I'll try and get Richard to bring some home then I can try it out on the people in here. Clotted cream ice cream anyone? Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: ClaireBear Date: 08 Aug 07 - 03:40 PM MBSLynne, if you have perfected a way to PM clotted cream, then please send me some; I'm in California and it's hard to get here... I think I'll switch to Pimms. too. Any auroch left? No one ordered pizza, so I've shut down the pizza oven. And let's see, is there any trifle? |

No way! Not all Americans pollute their baking powder biscuits with gravy! That's a southern habit, primarily. I live in Texas now and fight off the gravy habit at restaurants regularly, but I grew up in the civilized Pacific Northwest where we don't eat nearly so much gravy and heavy cream and such. I make my biscuits with water, not milk. And we usually eat our biscuits with jam or butter. Squid, I have no intention of sitting on you. This dress smells bad enough from so much time on a horse. I was shanghaied by our Aussie friend here, along with Mom--she meant well, but neither of us is used to horses, so we're a little tuckered out. I think she forgot MOM and has gone to retreive her after a long nap. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: JennyO Date: 08 Aug 07 - 11:43 PM JennyO stumbles in the South door, looking plumb tuckered out. Okay, I've taken MOM back to MOAB. She's having another lie down. It was bloody FREEZING in Alice Springs. I'm tired, dirty and me bum's sore. I'll have some of those buttered biscuits if there are any left please. They look like scones or damper - or if they're little - johnnie cakes. Very nice! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: Amos Date: 08 Aug 07 - 11:44 PM Well, Jenn, I didn't want to complain, but you have only your own self to thank. And really, if you must have a sore bum, it's much nicer if there's someone else to thank for it. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: JennyO Date: 08 Aug 07 - 11:58 PM True Amos, but I couldn't leave MOM languishing out there, now could I. Anyway it wasn't just me - it was Janie and SRS too, and MOM enjoyed herself, so it was worth it. |

Maybe I'll build a symbolic cabin there and catch some imaginary fish..." |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Aug 07 - 01:20 AM No need Lonesome - the duck has a fishing hut just round the back of the outhouse. He says the fish prefer that spot... something about warmth and an abundance of good food. Actually.. if it's dark and smells of beer and sawdust, you may already be in it. Come out of there, work your way out around front and you'll see the screened in porch where the hammocks are. We're all in there, playing 'Sit on a Squid' and the squid is playing 'Goose a mammal'. Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: GUEST,Phot at work Date: 09 Aug 07 - 09:50 AM An indecently clean, blue Landrover Discovery appears through the heat haze............ Hi all! I heard there was Pimms, and clotted cream! I think I have a large basket of fresh blueberries in the back of the Disco, what say we whip them up with some cream?..................... I did manage to get to Sidders for Shanty night, but driving back from Mikes at half four in the morning was a bit of a sod, and what daft twit gave Jack a cutlass? It's going to be weeks before he stops trying to plunder off licence's, and pubs, not to mention brewery drays! Hold the Pimms, I've just found a bottle of fizz in the cooler, just put some ice cream into a tall glass.....Add a few blueberries......A generous amount of fizz, and bingo! Alcoholic ice cream sundae!! Yum! Wassail!! Chris. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 09 Aug 07 - 11:03 AM I rigged up my patio shower head out back (it's a regular shower head and hose unit that I attached to the garden hose and mounted high on one of the patio supports.) In case some of you haven't looked down at yourselves lately, you're all a sticky mess from that ice cream and syrup. The shower is one temperature--about 90-95 degrees (tepid in US Fahrenheit terms) because it's coming from the garden spigot. Feels great, though! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: JennyO Date: 09 Aug 07 - 11:57 AM Just so long as we're only getting showered with tepid water! I haven't forgotten that duck in the rafters, you know. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: SINSULL Date: 09 Aug 07 - 11:44 PM Are the aurochs done? I would love some warm and juicy on a nice Kimmelweck. That squid still looks a bit "iffy". I hope no one plans on eating any. I wouldn't even get too near him. He might be contagious. Red Tide dyed or something. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: JennyO Date: 10 Aug 07 - 12:05 AM I had to look up Kimmelweck to see what it was. Goes to show you learn something new every day around here. Anyway, some juicy aurochs on it sounds good. I had some aurochs earlier, so I know they are ready. Ah yes, plenty left I see. Come to think of it, I'm getting hungry again too. Dare I say "I'll have what she's having"? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Summer Tavern open for business! From: MBSLynne Date: 12 Aug 07 - 11:12 AM I made it today Cats, and we had it after our roast dinner, with a choice of blackberry or damson coulis. You're right, it's heavenly ice cream! And guess what? I've just found a recipe to make clotted cream. As some of you know, I have access to untreated jersey milk so I shall have a go and see what the ice-cream is like made from my own clotted cream! Btw, I used 3 tablespoons of maple syrup instead of honey or sugar. Love Lynne |
