Are there any other 'Catters trilering besides us? I just sent Vixen a note offering for them to stay with us since the Travel Trailer Village allows one trailer and one tent per site. Might be an option for few others if there are more with trailers.

Are there beds in the cabins? I know someone mentioned bringing sleeping bags because it can get cold, but do we need to bring any other bedding? Charlie, could you or someone else give a brief description of the accomodations, like how many people per cabin, and whether the showers and toilet facilities are scattered around or in one central area. Thanks!

I think they're scattered around Jeri. Lots of trees, lots of holes.

Sleeping accommodations:

The cabins contain beds. Each bed has a foam mattress on wire springs. The mattress is not the world's most luxurious, but I've found them adequate. You'll need to bring your own bedding: pillows, pillowcases, etc. You could do sheets and blankets, but most of us just use sleeping bags. It can get very cold at night, and there are no heaters other than your body and the bodies of your cabin-mates.

Each room contains from 2 to 5 beds. There are no bunk beds. Many cabins contain 3 rooms, arranged 4 beds-2 beds-4.beds. Other cabins contain more or fewer rooms.

The cabins are grouped together in little villages; each village contains 3 to 5 cabins, a lodge (with fireplace, but no beds, often a gathering place for music making), and a bathhouse. The bathhouse always has a men's side and a women's side, and each side contains toilets, sinks, and shower stalls. Some but not all men's rooms may also have urinals. While you're packing bedding, bring towels. (If rain is in the forecast, bring extra towels.)

There is also a large modern bathhouse near the dining hall. And the back wings of the dining hall contain several sleeping rooms; some of these rooms are wheelchair-accessible. Also near the dining hall are the main lodge (with fireplace and bathrooms--a prime music making spot), a theatre barn (raised stage but no seats, unless we bring some of our own), and the main parking lot. You'll probably need to schlep your stuff some distance from the car to the cabins. We will try to help those who need assistance.

Thanks Charlie - sounds wonderful! I hope you'll have a litter box handy for Catspaw - otherwise we'll all have to watch where we walk.

I just e-mailed to Vix and apologized, but when I called the Travel Trailer Village just now, I was told that although they do have a provision for tents, it is not on the RV lots! This is NOT what I was told the first time since I always ask the standard series of questions...elec,dog,A/C,surcharges,tents,showers,etc....We carry a tent as do most others and I always check......perhaps the first girl said there was a "Provision" for tents which I mistook for an OK, that's all I can think of.....Anyway, the TTV DOES have a provision for tents which I did ask about THIS time. They have a row for tents separated from the RV's by a row of trees......I neglected to ask how wide a row of trees is---50 feet or a Natiional Forest? Anyway, they are still an option that seems closer than the other campground for tenters......and again Vix, I'm sorry!!!

Anyone else trailering or tenting?

Charlie ... you're getting to be quite the expert at explaining "facilities." I'm glad to hear no bunkbeds ... I was kind of worried that there WERE bunkbeds and I would have to sleep on a top bunk, in which case, I would need to bring bungee cords to strap me in ... moonchild

Charlie--

a confusion (and it doesn't matter to me now anyway, since I've reserved a tent site at TTV) *BUT* the info I d/l from the FSGW website said the cabin choices were single sex, children, no children, so I was under the impression I'd have to find a female roomate for me and a male roomate for Tim. We'll scope it all out this year, so next year we'll have a better idea of what to expect and register for.

We can't wait!!!!

Well ... I marked the "No Children" one, figuring that a mix of people and personalities would make it interesting. And, no, I do not dislike children. But, being my age and childless, I have less patience than I used to... moonchild

The "No children," "single sex" questions etc are sort of like asking if folks are vegetarians: If you don't mark anything, they assume you don't care and will take potluck, so to speak.

Some families prefer to be in a cabin where there are other kids. That way the kids make friends and keep each other busy. If you get in such a cabin, though, don't expect to sleep late. Those kids will be up at six or at least it seems that way.

If you don't want to stay up late, you may want a cabin with kids to minimize the night-owls waking you up when they come in. I can't ever remember hearing that anyone had asked for a single-sex cabin but I guess they do sometimes.

You can change clothes in the bath house for your cabin area if you can't get privacy in the cabin. Bring stuff to sleep in that you don't mind wearing in front of other people. Bring shoes you can slip into if you need to go to the bathroom in the night, and bring a flashlight. There are no lighted paths through the woods to help you stumble home in the wee hours.

As the average age gets older, the amount of snoring in the cabins seems to increase exponentially. In past years we have supplied ear plugs gratis. Bring your own if you have any.

So. How's that for making you look forward to the whole experience? Somehow we survive it all and have a blissful good time as well. - Rita Ferrara

Almost everyone I know, who has reached the age of 50, now admits that they snore. It's awful! I've discovered BREATHE RIGHT STRIPS and they are very good at what they do. I also always travel with a small fan which helps to drown out noise. It's called the Anal Rententive Traveler. I guess I lived in Alaska too long to take anything for granted when traveling. I still even keep a roll of T.P. in my car for roadside emergencies ... moonchild

Odd...nobody mentioned nighttime flatulence. Fortunately for all of you, I'm staying a ways off in the trailer. And don't anybody try to pass off (so to speak) that you never do it.

BTW...all beds are single...but in 22 years, I have seen every possible combinaton of moving, combining, and even dis-assembling beds to make sleeping as near to preferences as possible!..(Rita & I used to stand the beds on end in the foyer and put down a double bed sized foam mattress with an electric blanket...*grin*)....lots of possibilies, as long as you put 'em back like you found 'em..(The FSGW os famous for leaving the camp cleaner than we found it!)

As to schleping stuff...you CAN drive down near the dining hall to unload...but then ya' gotta move your car back to the lot, as there is limited space..THEN carry your stuff to your cabin...(the Park Service WILL hassle us about blocking fire lanes and having extra cars around the dining hall).....(In case of rain, EVERYTHING changes!)

Also...look for a reminder when you drive in, about careful, neat, compact and creative parking...There will be a LOT of cars, and it will be tight...especially Saturday when the day-trippers arrive!..We also need to remember that folks will be coming from motels and the trailer park and campgrounds each morning...[maybe THEY can car-pool]...we simply won't know till late Friday night and Sat morning how it is working..(***IF POSSIBLE...I, and maybe others will try to get the early arrivals parked in the best possible patterns ...so we can maximize the parking!!***)...

Much of the info in this thread is about the 1999 Getaway, and is therefore outdated. We're at a new place (Camp Ramblewood). See the other threads instead.

Hi Rita, Charlie, et al,

This is Marymac on Bert's computer. I just wanted to tell you I'm coming as a daytripper, bringing my own food. My modem's fried, so I can't get on email right now. Seeyou on the weekend!
