Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Kim C Date: 09 Aug 01 - 04:27 PM I haven't seen any of Angelina Jolie's movies, but I've said this before and I'll say it again... get a real tattoo, girlie. Even a pauper like me has prettier body art than that awful gang-looking "Billy Bob" thing on your arm. |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: GUEST,Mad4Mud at work Date: 09 Aug 01 - 04:38 PM OMG! How could I forget "Heaven's Gate"?! Thanks, LH. So far that's the only movie I've ever walked out on. I truly didn't care if that community of ..what were they Swedes?...lived or died. Oh yeah, speaking of not caring if they lived or died, I felt pretty much the same way about the "Lost in Space" movie. I wish they had rammed right into the Sun near the beginning of that film. |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Linda Kelly Date: 09 Aug 01 - 04:40 PM Did someone mention Derek Jacobi -the man's a genius! Trouble with those classicly trained actors is that they don't transfer well to the big screen so lovely Johnny (Gilguid) Ralphy (Richardson) Larry (Olivier) were all completely hammy on screen, but absolutely amazing on stage. The rule is broken by Judi Dench who is mesmeric anywhere. And of course Kenny (Branagh) was excellent except in Frankenstein which was crap. anyway luvvies, enough from moi -(air kisses and leaves stage left pursued by bear) |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: GUEST Date: 09 Aug 01 - 04:46 PM Okay, who was putting down Arnold Schwartzenegger? An actor? Well, no, but I like it that he knows it, doesn't take himself seriously and has fun with it. Arnold playing Hamlet (imagine the voice): "To be; or not to be." (lights the fuse of a bomb and throws it) "Not to be!" I tell ya, I damn near wet myself, I was giggling so hard. Freakin' brilliant! |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Aug 01 - 04:53 PM I am also consumed with regret for never having seen "Dumb and Dumber" or "Invasion Earth". But that is as nothing compared to the regret I have for having SEEN "Independence Day" and "Armageddon". Just saw the new "Planet of the Apes" and did not like it much for various reasons...too much action and fighting for my taste. I like movies that require an attention span of more than 5 seconds now and then, but they are becoming fewer and fewer, it seems. Kristofferson got a small part in it...not much to work with, but he sported an impressive amount of hair, anyway. The apes were no doubt quite envious of this, and made sure to kill him in short order. I actually liked Brad Pitt in "Seven Years in Tibet", and I really liked the subject matter. The general public, however, was not too impressed. Not enough action, I guess. Sigh. And hey, don't diss Schwarzenneger! He makes Stallone look inarticulate and half-witted. :-) (Like, who doesn't?) - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Gloredhel Date: 09 Aug 01 - 05:11 PM William Shatner, Jerry Lewis, and Ronald Reagan, in that order. Of course, in defense of Shatner, he made a good Star Trek captain. Being a bad actor is a prerequisite for that role, which is why Patrick Stewart made such an awful captain--he's too convincing. Can't wait to see who they dig up for the new Star Trek this fall. And MASH was a really good show! |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: GUEST,Mad4Mud at work Date: 09 Aug 01 - 05:35 PM Charleton Heston has got to be on this list. I still remember his final scene in "Planet of the Apes" when he drops to his knees on the beach and beats the sand with his fist. "Damn them! Damn them all!" Incredibly bad. |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Walking Eagle Date: 09 Aug 01 - 05:43 PM Worst actor, Peter Lawford and the rest of the rat pack except Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis. |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Tweedie Date: 09 Aug 01 - 05:54 PM Kevin Costner has 7 mentions so far which is only right and proper. Let's make it 10 kevin costner, kevin costner, kevin costner. But what I genuinely want to know is how come bad actors/actresses (Meryl Streep yes!) get repeat work ?? |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 09 Aug 01 - 06:16 PM I can't believe he hasn't been mentioned yet!!!!! Steven Segal! But Costner takes my prize for taking otherwise brilliant roles and making them blander than bread an margerine I liked Planet of the Apes ok, but more for Tim Burton's visuals than anything else.

Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Aug 01 - 06:29 PM I have to agree with Spaw and Wesley that "Two-Lane Blacktop" is a definite candidate for the title of worst movie of all time, and that the performances of James Taylor and Dennis Wilson are the worst examples of film acting that I have ever seen. I mean, none of the other actors mentioned above were ever anyything like as dire as these two. What must Warren Oates have thought? The strange thing is that for me, a bad film can be horribly compulsive, and if "TLB" were to air tonight on TV, I would watch it again, all the way through. Murray |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: jaze Date: 09 Aug 01 - 07:31 PM But I loved Lousie Lasser in MH MH--she always made me feel stoned even if I wasn't! |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: RWilhelm Date: 09 Aug 01 - 07:39 PM This is kind of fun. Meryl Streep, yes, because everytime you see her on screen you say "look how she's acting." But the grand prize goes to pretty boy Tom Cruise who was never in a movie he didn't stink up. |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Aug 01 - 07:44 PM Oh please, Tom Cruise isn't a bad actor. Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: RangerSteve Date: 09 Aug 01 - 08:05 PM I could argue with a lot of the above all night, but I'm tired from a miserable day of working in 100 degree weather and I just don't have the strength. Anyway: Harrison Ford. Someone should tell him that it's okay to smile, frown, raise your voice, SHOW SOME EMOTION, DAMN IT!! Katlaughing - I'm glad you caught your omission. I was wondering how you could have seen True Grit and missed Glen Campbell. Now, there's a man who can't do anything right. Little Hawk - As for Seven Yrs. in Tibet, read the book. Then you'll understand why no one liked the movie. (the book was great). I liked KC's Robin Hood. There, I've said it, and I don't care who knows. Whoever that woman was who narrated "Billy Jack". I believe she was actually dead at the time. She made Tom Laughlin look like Olivier. I also understand that Mae West was playing a character in all her movies, but I never did understand her appeal. |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: DougR Date: 09 Aug 01 - 08:13 PM I'd certainly go along with Kevin Costner as ONE of the worst. There are so many. Stewart Grainger from the old days, John Wayne in almost everything except: Rio Bravo, The Shootist, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Quiet Man, Ft. Apache, Red River and Rio Grande. He made lots of 'em. John Agar and Shirley Temple in Ft. Apache were pretty bad though. DougR |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Shields Folk Date: 09 Aug 01 - 08:41 PM Walking Eagle, did Peter Lawford play Lord Lovat in The Longest Day. If he did he wasn't the worst in that pile of shite. Sean Connery was the worst bar that bloke who was asking Richard Burton "Where Johnny was with his boots". All in all some classic over acting and serious under performing. |

Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: DonMeixner Date: 10 Aug 01 - 12:32 AM Well, many of the people we have considered as bad actors, I consider actor to be genderless, are good actors who have had some bad roles. Kevin Costner was good in Silverado,Tin Cup and The Untouchables. Other stuff, not so hot. He didn't ruin Waterworld all by himself, he had Dennis Hopper there to help him. Chuck Heston was never all that hot to me but Will Penny was a great movie, the rest were not so great, even The Ten Suggestions were a little stiff and over acted. Meryl Streep has never been a favorite of mine but she was perfect in Hollocaust and Sophie's Choice. Marilyn Monroe was funny. Even when she wasn't spose to be. Luckily for us for every 10 Chuck Hestons there is at least one Paul Muni. For every 10 Kevin Costner there is one Ed White. For all those Meryls and Marilyns there is at least one Jessica Lange and Judy Holliday. I think John Wayne was a good actor, I think Ward Bond was much better. And Ben Johnson was the best of the three. Of course thats my opinion and thats why we have horse races. Don |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Peter Kasin Date: 10 Aug 01 - 12:50 AM PIA ZADORA! She's got to be the poster girl for bad acting. As for the poster boy....there was some guy named Richard Carlson who popped up in many a 50's "B" science fiction movie. As wooden an actor as they come, but the attractive and resistant woman scientist always fell for him by the end of the movie. -chanteyranger |

Wayne Morris? Chester Morris? (Boston Blackie) |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: guinnesschik Date: 10 Aug 01 - 08:49 AM Branagh may have been awful in Frakenstein, but so was DeNiro. The Creature with a New York accent? I loved how bad he was in my favorite of favorite bad movies "Escape from New York" "You want to see the Duke, Nobody sees the Duke!" Arnold Shwartzenager as Conan the Barbarian, a movie that has one of my favorite stupid lines, "Two or three years ago they were just another snake cult, now their temples are everywhere!" Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 10 Aug 01 - 01:17 PM Hey Murray......I too have that same problem with really lousy movies!!!! Something about them just draws me in........Really pathetic isn't it? And worse.........Steven Segal......Completely without talent and a spectrum of emotion running from A to .........well, A-.......I don't think he has the range to make B. HOWEVER.........I can't resist the occasional Segal movie, for the 20th time. They're completely awful.....really hideous things. Didja' ever notice that with only the exception in one movie, he always manages to kick the shit out of 17 guys at a time, 49 times per movie and emerges with hardly a scratch? Wow......Whatta' guy! Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: DougR Date: 10 Aug 01 - 02:48 PM Yep, Murray, I think Sandy is thinking about Jeff Chandler, a truly wooden actor. I never could understand why Hollywood didn't use Indians to play Indians. John Ford used real Indians in his movies, of course but only as extras. "Scar" in one of his best movies (The Searchers) was certainly no Native American. I agree with chantyranger and Peg, I think you folks are going a bit hard on Meryl Streep. Kendall, you sure named a couple or three. How about Sonny Tufts? DougR |
Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Shields Folk Date: 10 Aug 01 - 02:55 PM It's just a gut feeling but Meryl Streep never seems to play anybody but Meryl Streep. All of these dissenting voices surely can't be wrong, mind she does 'comes from kind parents'. |

Subject: RE: BS: WORST actor or actress ever!!! From: Rick Fielding Date: 10 Aug 01 - 05:47 PM Ranger Steve, you win MY oscar for mentioning Delores Taylor. (Tom Laughlin's wife) Almost everyone named here seems to just be irritating to SOME in SOME roles, but Delores Taylor gave the truly worst performance I have ever seen. It was so embarrassing I have to believe that Laughlin needed her money or something to finance Billy Jack. I have to admit though that I loved it when Billy Jack used his "pacifist boots and karate chops" to dismember the bad guy who was hassling the native kids! The Movie was awful, the theme song nauseating, but DELORES will live forever. Rick |
