Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST Date: 13 Aug 04 - 08:41 AM I'm going anonymous on this one just because I don't want a sympathy vote but I really do find these 'who are your favourites' threads can leave you feeling a bit unloved when time after time you don't appear on anyones list! Its the same when you have gatherings and folk rave about how good certain people were and you are never there. Do we really need to single mudcatters out. I personally like meeting all and any of them. Some I may prefer not to meet again and others I will seek out at the first opportunity but I won't share that information so as not to cause offence! |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,MMario Date: 13 Aug 04 - 09:22 AM I'd like to meet virtually everyone I've "Met" here on the cat - but a few stand out - actually - I started to list them and then deleted the list because there are too many and for too many different reasons. I'm almost afraid to risk meeting Amos - but then again, I did survive finding out that Joe Offer is flesh-and-blood - not a computer sub-routine. |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 13 Aug 04 - 11:55 AM Well, I've met Sorcha, Katlaughing, Rex, Bert, Jed Marum, Bill Sables, Allan C, The Shambles, and a couple of others. In every case I have enjoyed the experience, and found the Mudcatters to be as interesting and personable in the flesh as they are on the forum. Who would I like to meet? Catspaw, who did call me on the phone once. I think I said "Spaw, you old son of a bitch!" when he told me who it was, which only temporarily left him at a loss for words. Peter T, Jenellen, and Amos, who co-wrote some of the Mudcat fiction with me. Neil Lowe, who disappeared some time back, but was definitely a kindred spirit. Art Theime, who along with Sandy and Caroline, adds some authenticity to this place. Big Mick, to see if he wears his heart on his sleeve in real life the way he does here. mMario too. Like many, I regret that Rick and I never met. I always thought we would. He was kind, funny and helpful, and he is badly missed. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 13 Aug 04 - 11:57 AM Almost forgot Little Hawk! I've always wanted to sit with LH and discuss our favorite T J Hooker episodes.:>} |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Aug 04 - 12:04 PM Nurse Ratched, I had you on my list at first, but like MMario above, it was getting very long so I cut most of it and referred to a couple of clusters of folks on favorite threads. But You were on my original list, dear, as a favorite personality in the Mudcat Recovery Ward. Now put those sharps back in your desk next time you walk through the ward. . . |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST Date: 13 Aug 04 - 01:09 PM Yawn. The virtual cliquish grab ass continues. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST Date: 13 Aug 04 - 01:14 PM Please notice how I refreshed the thread in order to make that point. the faceless one over here. the one everyone hates. I just brought this up so you would all have another chance to bash me. Of course if I was part of the inner clique then everyone would fawn all over me and want to meet me. But I'm not. Because I don't have a face no one wants t meet me. Therefore everyone else sucks. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: JennyO Date: 13 Aug 04 - 01:18 PM Aw, whatcha complaining about GUEST? A couple of folks said they'd like to meet you. And wasn't it you who started this thread? ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,Hurt so deeply I oughta sue! Date: 13 Aug 04 - 01:29 PM You are soooo right, man! These pretentious pigs in the Mudcat Inner Clique think that they are sooo special! They have no time for people like you and me, but they go on and on sucking up to each other all the time, just because they know each other well. Boy, does that tick me off! I swore I would never post here again, but I just had to chime and say how much I agree with you. You must be a terrific person. We have got to get together some time and compare notes on all the assholes out there in various clubs and cliques who don't appreciate people like you and me as much as they ought to. For instance, I have walked into any number of clubs in my city and attempted to strike up a witty conversation with the people there and establish an immediate level of equality. Well, I think you can guess what happens. They may talk to you, they may be superficially polite, but what you notice right away is...they spend a lot more time joking and carrying on with the people in their established inner clique. Selfish pigs! How dare they? I expect to be the life of the party the moment I walk through the door...even if I am among people who don't know me from shit, and you know why? Because I'm special! Just like you. We are so friggin special that they oughta know it. Right away. The fact that they don't proves they are jerks. And the "in jokes"! How dare people who have known each other for years and years...how do they DARE make an in joke that I don't fully understand? Are they making fun of me??? I think so. It's deliberate. I hate them all. I have never visited any group of people yet who treated me with the respect I deserve, and I bet you haven't either. Like I said, you must be a terrific person. Just naturally superior. Like me. |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,Original Date: 13 Aug 04 - 01:36 PM Sorry for any hurt feelings. That was not the intention, really. It's just that I like many others I'm sure, only know most or all Mudcatters by their posts. From the posts we have perceptions of the posters. Some are fun and humorouslike Spaw. Some are always contentious like Martin Gibson. Some are usually wise and sometimes profound like Little Hawk and McGrath of Harlow. I suspect a number would like to meet MG to see if he's really like that or just playing a game. Some people's posts are always interesting no matter what the topic. This was never meant to hurt any feelings. And yes it is hard to choose only one. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: JennyO Date: 13 Aug 04 - 02:03 PM GUEST, original, I'm not surprised you are not the trolling GUEST - didn't really think you were. I was actually having a little joke about the other GUEST and his/her/its complaints about the inner clique. Misunderstandings are easy enough as it is on the internet, and a number of different people posting as GUEST only adds to the confusion. Sorry if you thought I was having a go at you. I wasn't. I like this thread, even if nobody has mentioned me yet (sniff) :-( |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: JennyO Date: 13 Aug 04 - 02:06 PM BTW, I wouldn't take GUEST, hurt so deeply too seriously. I detect a strong note of irony there. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: John MacKenzie Date: 13 Aug 04 - 02:31 PM Aw Jenny; there there, I'm sure someone might want to meet you. ;~) Next time I'm down under. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: PoppaGator Date: 13 Aug 04 - 03:32 PM I was surprised that the good-hearted and always-reasonable Kevin McGrath of Harlow wasn't mentioned sooner, and glad to see a few others second the nomination after his name finally popped up. Lemme be the first to name that true amateur, Roger the Skiffler. I have always been tickled by his enthusiasm at any opportunity to sit in with other performers to rattle his washboard. He doesn't seem to hang out here much anymore -- I think I read that he retired, and apparently he did most of his posting from work. A man after my own heart, in more ways than one! Actually, I kinda like *not* meeting you characters, and just knowing you in your one-dimensional, text-only, on-line incarnations. I live far enough away from all of you that it does not take a conscious effort to avoid anyone, leaving me able to enjoy this forum as a "place" utterly separate from day-to-day reality. Of course, if you come to New Orleans to perform, I *will* come out to see you. That's how I had my one-and-only real-life meeting with any Mudcatter, when Jed Marum played here a few weeks ago. (My house is small and currently overcrowded, with a grandbaby, a grown daughter, and her less-then-welcome boyfriend, so I can't offer any actual hospitality -- but I'll leave the house at the drop of a hat to meet with you!) It would be nice to see my name (well, my pseudonym) get a mention, but what the hell; I refuse to feel hurt. After all, I don't do the chat room, I don't make the festival circuit or, indeed, make any effort to meet anyone in person. I have usually *tried* to avoid the "BS" section, although I've been spending too much time down here lately. I don't have a profile posted (although I do have a few photos available.) I don't even perform in public like I did as a youngster. I was pretty sick for a few months and didn't post a single thing from mid-February until late June, so I haven't been all that visible. What should I expect? I'd like to think that my contribututions are occasionally informative and/or witty, but I realize that this doesn't make me much different from almost everyone else. There are *dozens* of names that, when I see them, I look forward to reading what they have to say. If I didn't believe that there were people out there similarly interested in what I have to say, I wouldn't bother paticipating -- but I do. |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Aug 04 - 01:02 PM Chongo says he wants to meet you, JennyO. By the way, there is a certain risk involved in meeting Catters in person. They may turn out to be very different from the mental image you have of them. It's like that with radio announcers too. For instance, I had this mental picture of Spaw as a grand old Southern gentleman, tall and trim, dignified, looking neat and distinguished like those pictures you see of retired Southern military officers after the Civil War. A regular Robert E. Lee or James Longstreet. Well, then I saw some photos of him. Gaaaaah! What a shock. I was devastated. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Dani Date: 14 Aug 04 - 01:48 PM Don't feel bad, you. There are plenty of us not being 'fawned over'. Get over it! It's just like high school, just like life. Different people, faces, attitudes, 'in', 'out', 'cool', 'un-cool', easy, difficult, outgoing, shy. If I didn't ever get over that, I'd be a sorry, sad, lonely, resentful person. I know some of those. Instead, I see the whole wide world of people to love. Most of 'em. And on the Mudcat, we've all found at least ONE thing in common (if we stick around long enough), and some of us have found so much more. Now it's too late for me to name the names I would've, but suffice it to say there are people here I'm just pining to sing with, others I can't wait to argue about religion with, and some I just want to meet and hug, just for being who they are. What a privilege to get to know so many good people. And I've grabbed every opportunity to meet Mudcatters in person. And I am sometimes surprised, sometimes know them so well that meeting in the flesh is superfluous. Some have changed my life in ways I could never have dreamed of. Open your mind, and your heart.
