Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: GUEST,G-Spot Date: 23 Jun 05 - 09:53 PM So you make a reference to something and when you are asked to give details, you have nothing to offer except "bye bye". Sounds like you had nothing in your bag to begin with, asshole. GS |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 23 Jun 05 - 10:09 PM If I can cut in on this dance between Guest and Guest-GSpot, whatever shortcomings brucie may have, I consider him a good friend and he has many admirable qualities. If he felt the need to step away, it's not to pose as some Guest, or Guest with moniker. Maybe the air got a little too foul in here.. Jerry |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: GUEST Date: 23 Jun 05 - 10:21 PM Sorry Jerry, but not only did Joe Offer today admit that brucie has also been posting as "Peace" but I just posted the hard evidence of it to another thread. Note how in the following posts, the "From" field now reads "Peace" where yesterday it read "brucie" (and that the post is in fact signed by brucie): Subject: RE: BS: Re Promised CDs from brucie From: Peace Date: 22 Jun 05 - 10:52 PM Thank you, all. Kind words. I am taking a break from the 'cat for a while. The CDs I can send are gone--in the mail. I will visit from time to time, so if anyone doesn't get the copy, or if the copy is defective, etc, please post to this thread and someone will let me know. I have enjoyed being here. Wish you all well. Take care. Bruce Here is an example from the "For Real I Quit" thread: Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: Peace Date: 22 Jun 05 - 11:03 PM "For Real. I quit" Not quitting, but leaving for a while. Y'all take care. BM And here is an example from the "Fuck You Jane Fonda" thread: Subject: RE: pg13 Add: 'Fuck You Jane Fonda' Vietnam Song From: Peace Date: 19 Jun 05 - 02:17 PM Mick, That is one beautiful post. As you are aware, I protested that war for years. However, even being on 'the other side' of the issue, I was never impressed by Jane's actions at that time. But as you said, she has changed. I also agree that songs have to be preserved. ALL songs--whether I like them or not. My remarks above are not to do with 'making the song go away' further into obscurity. The remarks were to say, simply, that as an example of the songwriter's art/craft--well, it ain't a good one. Bruce Murdoch |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: GUEST Date: 23 Jun 05 - 10:33 PM Hmmmm...methinks thou dost protest too much on behalf of brucie there, G Spot. In the Real Life v. the Internet thread is where you will find the video Clinton linked to. And I'm done with you now. You can go on ranting all night long if you'd like brucie. I've made enough of a fine point about you for one day. |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: LilyFestre Date: 23 Jun 05 - 11:34 PM I think you folks have lost your minds and have entirely too much time on your hands. Who cares about who changes a name or who has taken a break from being online...I'd say that is actually a healthy thing. Who knows....maybe Brucie had something to do or someplace to go and didn't feel like dragging your foul mouthed, button pushing asshole selves with him. Lord knows I wouldn't want to. Keeping track of who said what to who and in what context is obsessive...sounds much like the carrying on of a 13 year old school girl. But hey...if that's how you wish to spend your days (you know, those moments that pass us by, never to return, EVER), then so be it. I'd much rather enjoy those around me, getting active with something that has meaning to me than to sit and bicker endlessly with people who can only present themselves as typed up words....all expressions and intonations are lost....you get the idea. In my opinion, those who try to push the reaction button and hide behind the Guest name, aren't worth anything...certainly not a second read through, or response let alone a second thought. Don't you have some bugs to pull wings off of or something? Michelle |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: JennyO Date: 24 Jun 05 - 12:11 AM My thoughts exactly, Michelle. Funny - I was just reading the Life VS the Internet thread, and had composed what was going to be my one and only post to it, and when I previewed my post, it said This Thread is Closed. So I copied my post, and opened the thread again in another window and it said This Thread has been Deleted. So I've got a perfectly good post and nowhere to put it. So where can I put it, she thought? I know, I'll boost that awful MG thread on to 1000 posts, cos it sorta fits in, particularly in the light of what you said Michelle. I referred to something Jon Freeman said in that thread, but the whole thing's been deleted now - probably just as well. Anyway, for what it's worth, here it is. This GUEST is obviously pretending to be obtuse because she thinks she can wind us up. There's nothing wrong with a person changing their Mudcat handle. John in Hull did it quite regularly at one stage, and every time he did, all his old member posts took on the latest name. Jon already explained why that happens and why the name on one's guest posts don't change, in his post of 23 Jun 05 - 08:13 PM. I think Jerry Rasmussen had the right of it when he said I know that brucie changed his mudcat moniker to Peace... I too read the thread. And that's the manner in which he stepped away. Simple as that. As for the other G spot/brucie/Peace nonsense - ridiculous. I don't know who G spot is - could be MG for all I know - but I'd have a hard time believing it was Bruce. I can't even see why anyone thinks there's any connection. More likely it's somebody trying to stir up trouble. It might be a good thing for a few here to step away! Don't you people have LIVES? Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: susu Date: 24 Jun 05 - 06:44 AM Just a question... couldn't G-Spot theoretically be more than one person, just as anyone who posts under the "Guest" moniker? So technically G-Spot could be Guest arguing with him/herself? Now that's deep! (or messed up) Susu |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: JennyO Date: 25 Jun 05 - 12:07 AM After the Big Mudcat Crash, when the Cat came back with 6 months worth of posts missing, Max warned us that anything we posted at that point might get lost. During that period between 13th and 15th June - when in fact some posts did end up disappearing, I got a chuckle out of something that El Greko had written. Fortunately I heeded Max's words, and saved it. Amidst all the speculation about who Martin Gibson is, and whether "he" will be back in another incarnation, comes this little gem...... ya gotta love the last line! Subject: RE: BS: Did Mudcat Loose Six Months? From: El Greko - PM Date: 14 Jun 05 - 08:22 PM I dreamed a dream the other day an angel came to me the things he whispered in my ear, I tell you, they fair threw me. "Forget the past my friend", he said, "yesterday's done and dusted, the future will be what you want, it's up to you to cast it". "You can forget your past mistakes, forget the gains and losses, shortcomings and bad habits that you carried like crosses". "When you wake up, you will be born anew, the past is zero. And up to you if you will be a villain or a hero". I woke up, lit a cigarette, sat by myself and pondered. Of all the dreams, the weirdest yet, "And have I changed?" I wondered. There I was, fat and smoking still with minimal willpower. My zits all there, my grey hair too, my stomach like a tower. And then I thought, perhaps it's not my physical appearance that changed, but something else instead: the key was perseverance. Switched on and logged into Mudcat (it still did recognise me) but hey! - the old threads had all gone and that sure did surprise me. So, that is what the angel meant; my postings had all vanished. Along with them, all I had said from memory was banished. Gone now El Greko, George gone too, along with his friend Xander; gone each and every spurious thought that had on screen meandered. Here was my chance to start again, create a new persona. "What shall I call myself?" I thought "Something that speaks of honour!" "Nelson, or Shakespeare, or perhaps Brecht, Alexander, Ibsen. I got it! As I love guitars, I'll call me Martin Gibson!" |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: Azizi Date: 25 Jun 05 - 06:50 AM I'm one of those people who is always looking for signs and meanings in things that occur. I just woke up from this dream of a "West Side Story"/"Billy Jean" kinda scene {or whatever old school Michael Jackson song it was where he and his 'posse' dance/fight another gang in imitation of that classic "West Side Story" scene. In my dream, instead of young adults the opposing 'gangs' were boys and girls. These kids stood facing each other divided by a tall chain linked playground fence. One group was already in the playground, and the other was outside. But when the playground gate suddenly opened by itself, instead of fighting, the two groups of children joined together and had fun playing handclaps, chasing games, jump rope, and other such games. For some reason, who knows why, that made me think of Mudcat and this thread. I wondered if this thread was a test to see if positivity would triumph here over negativity. One way that could occur is if-in trying to reach the goal of 1,000 comments [a fun goal so why not?]-rather than adding posts that dwell on the hurt and pain of the past, we concentrated on contributing our own or others' witty or otherwise creative compositions, and/or our own or other's positive, insightful sayings. I'm game. What about you? Best wishes, Azizi Powell |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: gnu Date: 25 Jun 05 - 07:12 AM Question: How long do the posts to Mudchat stay in "existance"? |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: GUEST,Jon Date: 25 Jun 05 - 07:49 AM Question: How long do the posts to Mudchat stay in "existance" Mudchat. I would guess typically most posts last a few minutes. I don't know the specifics of CFChat (the program Mudchat uses) but a lot of that type use a "rotating array" in the web server's memory space to hold a few chat lines, I'd guess 10-50 lines of chat. The longest time that anything would stay in memory is the time the server is running. In the case of Mudcat on average that is about 1/2-1/3 of a day taking a 90 day average from Netcraft. There is one other factor though. That is the messages could be logged. I don't know whether that happens or not. All I do know is that years ago there was a Java Chat here and that was logged. |
