Subject: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: podman Date: 29 Jun 07 - 12:52 AM I couldn't stand the iPod but I'm interested in an iPhone. Not going to wait in line on some filthy sidewalk for the iShop to open, iThink. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Sorcha Date: 29 Jun 07 - 01:20 AM No. Why? My house has a phone, my car has a phone, my work has a phone....what IS it with this 'stuff'? |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Michael Date: 29 Jun 07 - 04:36 AM i like a phone that's fixed to the wall, you know exactly where it is. My kids frequently find it useful to ring their 'lost' mobiles. Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Rapparee Date: 29 Jun 07 - 09:17 AM Sheeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiit, no. I use a phone (wireless, mobile, or landline) for calling, a computer for computering, and other things for music. I refuse to send a text message (can't read 'em and why pay more for that?), and basically, why bother? Use a cell phone for surfing the Internet? Come on! You can't read the screen. Instead, I'll use the 20" screen at work, or the 17" screen at home. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: wysiwyg Date: 29 Jun 07 - 09:58 AM If I want to spend first-generation bucks for a tech toy, this ain't gonna be the one. I'm still using the technologies it means to replace, and I'm not ready to learn a new set of buttons-- I'm still refining my VCR-programming autothumb. When it gets a cheap knockoff from 7 or 8 competitors, and the price wars start, by then my current stuff oughtta wear off. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: RangerSteve Date: 29 Jun 07 - 10:38 AM I was perfectly content with my old cell phone, one that made phone calls and nothing else. The battery died, and when I went to get a new one, I found it was obsolete. I had to get a new one and I found that there's no such thing as a phone that only makes phone calls anymore. So I got one that takes pictures. It's great if I want to send pictures to other people, but they have to have the same phone, so it's kind of useless. I only use it in emergencies, or when I'm traveling to let people know when I'm arriving. I don't even know the phone number. I'm hopelessly outdated, but I'm content being that way. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Stu Date: 29 Jun 07 - 10:46 AM I want one. I'll be listening to my collection of folk music on the move, watching those excellent clips of Planxty etc from YouTube whilst on the bus . . . Ace. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Midchuck Date: 29 Jun 07 - 11:04 AM Local paper says that iPhone is limited to one particular cellular server, which has no service in Vermont. So they will be useless in Vermont for the foreseeable future. I'm hucking feartbroken. Peter |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: EBarnacle Date: 29 Jun 07 - 11:20 AM Don't be silly. It's just more bells and whistles. Ranger Steve, you can go on eBay and get a replacement battery for far less than your cell phone provider would have charged. Old cell phones never die, they're just thrown away. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Rapparee Date: 29 Jun 07 - 11:28 AM The cell provider for the iPhone is AT&T. AT&T doesn't reach everywhere. Nobody does. I'll stick with my Sprint service, and use calling cards overseas. (I have the nearly overwhelming urge to start a thread entitled "Are you in line for an iPhart?" but I won't.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Greg B Date: 29 Jun 07 - 12:08 PM As a web developer, I'm kind of intrigued with the thing. I have AT&T service, and have been quite happy with that, except for the data transfer speed, which will be a problem for the iPhone as well. More so. I use an older Motorola MPX220 phone, which runs Windows Mobile and serves nicely to synchronize my calendars and contacts between phone and home and office computers. It also has a version of Internet Explorer; great for checking the weather (frequently) shopping at Amazon (occasionally) and looking up phone numbers on Whitepages.com, all of which have mobile-phone specific web sites. I envy the larger more full-function display of the iPhone. I'm disappointed that the iPhone doesn't have GPS capability, which would enable all sorts of cool 'personal assistant' capabilities. Also, the display may be somewhat useless unless AT&T gets their data throughput capabilities in order. I can play mp3's on my MPX220, now. I guess the iPhone won't be its replacement. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you in line for an iPhone? From: Bill D Date: 29 Jun 07 - 02:53 PM I don't hardly GO nowhere, and when I do, I gots me this little cheapo phone what calls out in an Eeeemergency. It don't text, it don't take pictures...(I gots me a special stand-alone camera for that!), and it don't show no movies, 'cause I can't watch no movies while I drive, anyway. I once stood on a spit of land in Mystic, Conn. and called a friend on the west coast...I guess I have all the 'phone' I need. |
