Subject: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: GUEST,Dani Date: 02 Nov 07 - 10:18 PM Well, here's a glass to them. If I let myself think about how much fun they're having, moving from circle to circle, singing good old songs with good old friends, the whole weekend to look forward to of same...... .... well, let's drink one for them, then one for us on the homefront. I miss you all. Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Nov 07 - 10:20 PM I'll tip my beer their direction and with them nice temperatures and no rain. |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Susan A-R Date: 02 Nov 07 - 10:40 PM I'm sipping my wine and wishing that I was there. I came home from Virginia with the prospect of lots of music this weekend in VT and it's fading away. Makes me even more mournful. Ah well, the cat is darned glad to see me, and it is nice to think of everyone singing, planning another evening event, laughing a lot and eating that pretty awful food. Next year without fail. I'll drink to that. Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: GUEST,The Giant Squid Date: 02 Nov 07 - 11:14 PM Glurb. Wheet! Glerb. |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: MMario Date: 03 Nov 07 - 09:44 AM If they would only schedule that cloning workshop we could solve a lot of these conflicts.... I raise a pint - and a pint of fudge ripple ice cream as well! Enjoy!~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Nov 07 - 09:48 AM I was going to "wish" them, not "with" them, but my fingers managed a sort of Freudian slip. That must have been a strong beer. I'll have another. |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Rapparee Date: 03 Nov 07 - 09:49 AM I'd like a glass of scotch and gasoline, flambe. At 1 p.m. I have to go to a Memorial Service and then to a reception at the Country Club. I'm not sure where the Country Club is, fergawdssake. |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: GUEST,Dani Date: 03 Nov 07 - 11:52 AM Here it is a magnificent fall day, warm in the sun, chilly in the bright dappled shade. I hope it is the same there as well, and that you all are outside singing at the top of your lungs. I love that part of the Getaway day when you rinse your mug of coffee and fill it with ______ instead, then walk around to see what's happening where. That will be the part of my day today I sing and think of you all. Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: KT Date: 03 Nov 07 - 01:32 PM sigh.... you Getawayers have no idea how much you are being thought of by the likes of us here at the Missing the Getaway Tavern. I'm picturing all of you together, many reunited after a long year apart, good food, great spirits, and the wonderful camaraderie that can only be achieved through voices raised together in song. Have a splendid day! Think I'll grab Ebbie and raise a pint of Latte in your honor. (It's early here.) KT |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: gnu Date: 03 Nov 07 - 01:35 PM I wonder. Are the Getawayers being rained upon by Noel? |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: SINSULL Date: 03 Nov 07 - 01:38 PM I hope their weather is better than ours. Hurricane gust winds, heavy rain, expected power outages. I picked up Seamus to keep him for a night or two. Poor baby was so glad to see me and even gladder to see the bed set up in the sunroom. He ate some snacks, pooped, and has settled down for a long nap. By the way, HE STINKS! I bought a split of champagne to toast the Getawayers tonight. And i hit the Christmas Tree Shop for IN THE PINK goodies. Hot apple cider with a shot of rum for me please. And a banjo tune from someone... |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Becca72 Date: 03 Nov 07 - 01:57 PM Well maybe I'm still a bit congested but he didn't stink when I left him this morning...what did he get into at your house this time? :-)_ |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: SINSULL Date: 03 Nov 07 - 02:58 PM You don't snuggle into him the way I do, Becca. It's in his fur especially when he's wet. |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Becca72 Date: 03 Nov 07 - 03:07 PM Well, the wet part I buy but I couldn't smell anything when he was sitting in my lap last night. Of course, I had other things to worry about with a 90 + lb dog in my lap... |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: gnu Date: 03 Nov 07 - 03:29 PM Them thar dogs smell a tad skunky when wet anaway eh! |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: gnu Date: 03 Nov 07 - 03:33 PM Wait... 90+ pounds? Has he got skunks on his back? Has he been eating too many skunks? 90+ pounds? |
Subject: RE: BS: Missing the Getaway Tavern From: Becca72 Date: 03 Nov 07 - 03:47 PM He's a big boy, Gnu. He has slimmed down some as of late so it may not be quite that much anymore, but he was at one point. Still feels like it, too, when he's sitting on ya. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Nov 07 - 04:27 PM Maybe the bartender has some good doggie snacks for Seamus. My two would enjoy the treat as well. I left them in the yard, but if dogs can come into the tavern, these two would love a go at the jello pit. . . better caution the ducks and cats to head for the rafters. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: MaineDog Date: 03 Nov 07 - 05:11 PM Well, yes, I'm missing the Getaway because I decided to go to NOMAD instead. I'm missing NOMAD because its a long way, and I might rather go to the Peterboro dance, and besides I have a rehearsal tomorrow. But now I'm missing the dance because who wants to drive down there in this stupid Hurricane? But it could be worse : I did get out Thursday and Friday! MD |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: skarpi Date: 03 Nov 07 - 05:16 PM well (_) skál slánté, cheers to all of you who and who cant go to this avent. all the best Skarpi Iceland. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Jeri Date: 03 Nov 07 - 06:01 PM I just got off the phone with Jacqui (who passed me to Tinker, who passed me to Micca, who passed me back to Jacqui). I didn't get a whole lot of information other than 1) Micca was writing a song with Songbob, and 2) Jacqui was eating ham while Micca was mostly eating some mashed potatoes. They all seemed to be having fun, the bastards. Next year! People of the Getaway, I SHALL return! (Hmmm... Seamus as a lap dog? Sure beats one o' them little barky celebrity rat dogs, don't it...) |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: SINSULL Date: 03 Nov 07 - 07:07 PM Time to open the champagne. Seamus shared the bed with two kitties tonight. Very cute. But they too keep sniffing him and looking with pure disgust. Of course, that's normal. By now they have eaten and drunk and gone to change for the concert. Are they having this wind and rain, Jeri? Gusts to 70 mph. Great! I went out and talked to my tree begging it to hang on tight. Now some bubbly... But I will put the bottle in a brown paper sack in respect for the camp policies. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: MMario Date: 03 Nov 07 - 07:35 PM *sigh* I did get music today - but some how it's not the same standing there singing warmups with a cast of actors as it is being at Getaway. And the director didn't even let us do the muppet monster version of "it came upon a midnight clear". |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Susan A-R Date: 03 Nov 07 - 07:37 PM Well, I miss 'em but I am going to the Montpelier dance, so all is not lost, and tomorrow i'll play some Irish music, but no singing, Ah me, no singing here and I miss all of those silly wonderful people. Next year without fail. I'd raise a glass, but I'd gurgle at the dance. I'll have a bit of wine when I come home, just to slow down, and will check in to see how all of us are doing. Glad to hear about that paper bag Mary. Still thinking of how I might get myself over to Maine next weekend, but I don't think the cat would forgive me after two and a half weeks away, with another week off in the wilds of DC coming up. NEXT YEAR. Drink a toast to THAT!! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Alba Date: 03 Nov 07 - 08:18 PM Alrighty then... Winds are a whipping and rain is a raining but I'm inside so I'm not complaining... Cozy myself up beside the MTG Tavern fire here with the stinky dog and the Kits, sit myself right across from Sins with her brown paper bag full of Champers and I shall very discreetly open my wee dram bottle ( disguised as a Christmas Tree shop bag *wink*) A sip to them All and two sips to us...warm ma toes and try to ignore the Shame~us~pong.. (Never fear Seamus ma doggie dear, Sister Jude of the Glade will be refreshing you very soon) Now who is for a song.....? |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: KT Date: 03 Nov 07 - 08:45 PM Hmmmm.....no champagne here, but a glass of white wine will do quite nicely. And a song, yes, Jude. What will it be? Once upon a time there was a tavern For those who couldn't get to Getaway They raised a lonely glass of well, whatever.... And sighed to think of them so far away.... take it Sins! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Rapparee Date: 03 Nov 07 - 09:40 PM Getaway, they call it! As this picture from last year so clearly demonstrats (and it's not for anyone who is even the least bit offended by such...such...filth, such pornography), Getaway is a bloody orgy. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Susan A-R Date: 04 Nov 07 - 12:05 AM Now for the glass of wine. My feet are tired from dancing and the music was great, but I miss the singing That was the Getaway We'd sing till break of day Sea songs and ballads, oldies and much more We'd pass the songs about Nothing could drown us out Until they'd fall asleep and they would SNORE!! Now I must admit, that I don't miss. I bet they are raising the rafters even as I curl up with my quiet glass of wine. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Nov 07 - 02:45 AM Ah, but think of all the BS we're missing being here with the Quality and the good booze! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: GUEST,Dani Date: 04 Nov 07 - 07:41 AM Yesterday I snuck out of the tavern long enough to march with my daughter's drum crew in a parade on a gorgeous Autumn morning... what fun! And then last night other daughter and I attended the premier of AC Bushnell's new CD and DVD, "Following the Road". There was the most intriguing collection of musicians there to celebrate AC's music and life. My friend produced the movie about AC and the making of this album, it is a terrific story, and the music was just amazing. I'd always heard the term 'inexpressible joy'. What AC has is 'EXPRESSIBLE joy'. Here's a little about it: http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A163292 You old-time musicians may appreciate the picture of a stage filled at the end with almost 20 musicians (4 banjos, electric guitar and bass, mandolins, drums, more I can't remember) on the world's craziest version of "Cluck Old Hen" as the audience went wild with clapping and stomping. So, now we rinse out the whiskey and fill the mugs with coffee, the better to prepare for the Gospel Workshop I love so well. AC sang this last night, and I just love it. Join me? When I go, don't cry for me In my Father's arms I'll be The wounds this world left on my soul Will all be healed and I'll be whole. Sun and moon will be replaced With the light of Jesus' face And I will not be ashamed For my Savior knows my name. It don't matter where you bury me, I'll be home and I'll be free. It don't matter where I lay, All my tears be washed away. Gold and silver blind the eye Temporary riches lie Come and eat from heaven's store, Come and drink, and thirst no more It don't matter where you bury me I'll be home and I'll be free It don't matter where I lay All my tears be washed away So, weep not for me my friends, When my time below does end For my life belongs to Him Who will raise the dead again. It don't matter where you bury me, I'll be home and I'll be free. It don't matter where I lay, All my tears be washed away. |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Nov 07 - 09:53 AM HMmmmmmmm... thinks to self... wonder what the ginger rum would taste like warmed a little? Further thinks to self... wonder what my gin would taste like with a little drop of rose hip syrup in it? Final thinks to self... today could just vanish in an alcoholic haze if I'm really lucky! Then I won't be bothered by Manitas staggering in at whatever time tonight because he's off at a session that started an hour ago and has no set finishing time. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 07 - 10:21 AM It's an orgy of non-stop sex, whiskey, sex, whisky, sex, filthy songs, and the devil running up and down the aisle learning new things. Everyone who goes to Getaway will be damned eternally (see Dante's "Inferno" and Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God" for descriptions). Oh, if only they would, or could, repent! A nice hot buttered rum, please. And then I have to pay some bills and cut the grass and put the mower away and break out the snowblower. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Nov 07 - 10:28 AM Same here, Rapaire. The last mow of the season. But no snowblower. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: GUEST Date: 04 Nov 07 - 10:33 AM So, I knew about the whiskey and filthy songs, but no one told me there was SEX at the Getaway!! Guess I was always in the wrong cabin ; ) "the devil running up and down the aisle learning new things" classic. Did you make that UP?! I'm off to work, but I'll keep the windows wide open on the way, 'cause I swear I can hear the choruses of the 'bloody Lamb' songs Joe loves so well wafting on the breeze. Hold my spot, I'll want to put my feet up when I get back. I'll bring back some snacks when I come. A warm pear-and-walnut brie en croute? Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Jeri Date: 04 Nov 07 - 10:42 AM Last time I was in Toronto, I bought some lovely Indian 'rhum'. You mix it with heavy cream and a bit of sugar and put it on berries. Well, that's in the summer. In the winter, you think about it after you've had your cholesterol test and are eating oatmeal and listening to Mr North Wind roar around the house like he got hold of some bad acid. Can't make up my mind - cocoa with Frangelico or Alba's mulled cider? I might have to wait until after noon... (Is it too early in the year for egg nog? That's breakfast in a glass!) |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 07 - 10:42 AM Cherry turnover and a mug of strong coffee with cream here. If I can get the energy, I must also mow one last time, mulching all those leaves instead of raking. I am far too far away to hear any melodies on the breeze from the East coast, but I'm sure they are all having a great time, as usual! I went back to work this week after the hospitalization for pleurisy and pneumonia. I'm trying to take it easy so I don't relapse. Hopefully someone else will mow for me. Alice |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Jeri Date: 04 Nov 07 - 12:00 PM Ergh... The mowing of the lawn, the raking of the leaves, the washing of the laundry, sweet singing and I'm not there. Alice reminded me I need to mow my lawn. Thanks a lot, Alice. Sun's out, and there are no more excuses. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: SINSULL Date: 04 Nov 07 - 05:30 PM Someone turned my In The Pink thread PINK, very PINK. Nearly blinded me. Wonder who that could have been...Jeri? Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Alba Date: 04 Nov 07 - 05:47 PM Back away from the pit Sinsull....that ain't Jell-O! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Nov 07 - 06:24 PM Oh what a bummer of a day... I didn't get to touch one drop of alcohol, real or virtual and Manitas staggered in after a 6 hour drinking session, having stood on the doorstep for 5 minutes trying to find the door. He SAYS he was looking for his key. Pour me something that'll drown a) his snoring or b) him. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: GUEST,Dani Date: 04 Nov 07 - 06:36 PM Home from work, nice glass of Cote du Rhone and some quesadillas in the oven. What do you think the concert lineup for tonight is?! Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 07 - 06:41 PM I'll sing "The Bold Rapparree" if you think you can stomach it, and after I have enough Old Panther Sweat. |

I'd still rather have been there than here tough ! Pour me a LARGE Malt Whisky Barkeep [_] Slainte !! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: MMario Date: 04 Nov 07 - 06:55 PM AND they had an extra hour to sing last night - bet they used every second of it! Meanwhile I'm up here in NY trying to learn harmony on a carol on which I've sung the melody for almost 50 years! It's not easy! Pressure was really on today at rehearsal because I was sandwiched between a guy who doesn't know the words and one who doesn't think he can sing (He can - but he needs confidence) Kahlua and cream please... |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 07 - 09:40 PM I've been in contact with the Maryland State Police. The whole bunch of them were tossed into durance vile last evening, although almost everyone made bail. There are laws in Maryland about a bunch of naked people running down the street singing "Fa la la lee loo lee la" at the top of their voices and off-key. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 Nov 07 - 08:52 PM Were they swinging guitars over their heads, like deadly weapons? |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 06 Nov 07 - 12:35 AM Well, well, well.... We missed you, luvs, we missed you sorely....but... DAMN! I had a good time. Don't mean to gloat, mind you. Revelry? you betcha! Banjo? Yep! Why, this one feller with a handlebar mustache and a banjo - it was during the concert, and he twirled that thing over his head, and spun it in his hands, and then he...well... Good Company, Good Music, Good Drink, Good Food- er-scratch that last one - Sing arounds and jams until the wee hours. Yeehaw! Charlie has posted the dates of the next two up in the Getaway 2007 thread. Now quit yer whining, start savin' the air fare, and git' yerselves there next year! |

We had to juggle the time pretty energetically to get it all in. Ended up shorting the sleep budget again, but we made up for it by looking worse'n usual and drinking more than usual. Rapaire, well, he gets like this when he can't have his way, he just kind of invents things, you know. That story about the MAryland police wasn't true. A |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Nov 07 - 11:18 AM The food is always spectacular at the Mudcat Tavern, so we're one up on you there. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Severn Date: 06 Nov 07 - 11:31 AM If the assembled talent here in the tavern had sung to each other rather than complain about missing The Getaway, you'd have come close to matching what we had going. I've actually had the privilege of hearing a lot of you. If each of you had picked and posted a favorite song for the tavern, the Getaway attendees could come back to a whole lot of things they wish they'd heard or sung where we were and be envious of YOU. Except, of course, the few with laptops who strangely go missing for a spell that could have learned one of YOUR songs by Sunday or at least sung it off of a sheet they'd claimed they had with them all along. By the following year, you could even do workshops in here!. SINSULL had the right idea by sending something down to be sung. The Peter Kagan & The Wind" parody spoken and sung by Gordon Bok himself in front of an audience that included its subjects Kendall & Jaqui came off wonderfully. You should've been there, yes, but the fine bunch in here was missed, as well, in the fleeting moments we all took to do so. Your spirits were among us. Nothing, of course would be like having had you all at West River.... |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Amos Date: 06 Nov 07 - 11:59 AM You're right, Stilly. About three AM on Saturday I woulda given my left ... for a slice of Mario's grilled auroch steak. On the other hand, when you are weaving into breakfast on 2 hours' sleep and a hangover, even rubber eggs and Doanwannaknow sausage patties will do more for you than a virtual groaning board with no calories or mass. :D A |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Rapparee Date: 06 Nov 07 - 12:30 PM Actually, Amos, you are correct. It was not the Maryland State Police: I did not want to embarrass you and the others by mentioning that it was actually the Prison Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, that they exhausted their pepper spray and tear gas and finally had to subdue y'all with tasers, expandable batons, and bean-bag rounds. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: MMario Date: 06 Nov 07 - 12:30 PM well - I will admit that it's hard to beat my grilled auroch - but that is because: a) I only use Transylvanian grass-fed auroch from prior to 1100 AD b) I grow my own herbs in the garden behind the Mudcat Tavern. The combination of fairy dust and possum pellets in the garden beds there cannot be matched elsewhere. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: MMario Date: 06 Nov 07 - 12:32 PM Silly Law enforcement! They could have bagged most of them with some well cooked burgers or ribs as bait. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Severn Date: 06 Nov 07 - 12:37 PM Hurdy gurdies sent the cops and swat teams running. Too many police forces have their OWN bagpipers. |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Severn Date: 06 Nov 07 - 01:02 PM One carry out order for Auroch-On-Roll, please Mario! Whole wheat, please. No cheese, no onions. Give me directions to the tavern to pick it up. I realize you don't deliver. If you did we'd have lured you all down to West River on Friday night in a fleet of delivery trucks with the Tavern's logo emblazoned on the side, and you could've written it off as a business expense. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: MMario Date: 06 Nov 07 - 01:07 PM Severn? How can you be here talking with us and not know how to get here? You aren't astral projecting or anything like that, are you? But heck - everyone knows that to reach the Tavern you take the nearest sub-space anomaly and turn gronk in the fourth dimension just after entering. Unless in the southern hemisphere in which case I am pretty sure you have to turn sylphish in the seventh dimension. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Severn Date: 06 Nov 07 - 01:25 PM No ashtray projectiles for me, I'm a non-smoker! But heck, everybody knows if you followed that route backwards, it would have led to the Getaway! Ask the chat room crowd about my "phantom posts". And If I'm already AT the tavern rather than writing to it, I must've had too much ale. Give me directions to take the sandwich to my home, then. I'm awake and sober now, I promish! |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Nov 07 - 03:09 PM Rap had it wrong - Kendall was wearing the leather jacket and his hat and it was all the ladies who were chasing him. Here's Seamus as lapdog. He may have slimmed down but he's put on a lot of muscle and I think he still weighs 90lb+. Poor baby just missed his folks. |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Nov 07 - 04:59 PM By the way, I would like to know who left this horror in my bedroom over the weekend. It was one of two culprits, but I think I'm tied between SINSULL and Becca72, both have the sick mindset for this one. Anyone got any suggestions for a possible use for this object? |

Did Kendall ever take that jacket off? Those were heated rooms... And what are YOU PEOPLE doing in here? This is for non-attendees of the Getaway. Put down those auroch ribs and Turkey Turd Beers! The shearin's not for you. |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Amos Date: 07 Nov 07 - 07:39 AM Your going to Pittsburgh is not going to fix us, Rapaire. What ails us is either (a) a yearning for more Getaway or (b) Too much Getaway. Pittsburgh has nothing to do with it! A |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Severn Date: 07 Nov 07 - 09:04 AM How are you going to fix us when we ain't broke? Even after spending vast amounts at Dick Greenhaus' Camsco table. Just 'cause your name's Rapaire, what makes you think you can fix things? Maybe if you showed us some samples of your work, say maybe a dog, a cat, an address, a wrestling match, a parking ticket, maybe then we'll start worrying about our wagons! And if you DO come around with the fixture wagon, we'll finally know how many folkies it takes to change a light bulb.... Or when in Pittsburgh, you can fix the sorry-beyond-belief Pirates baseball franchise. THAT would impress is! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: GUEST,LTS pretending to work Date: 07 Nov 07 - 09:43 AM Well I'm certainly broke! And I hope you don't mean 'fix' in the certain animal operation sense of the word... Although with some here, it would be no bad thing to make sure the line stops there. Now pass me a mug of something cool and fizzy please, I need waking up. LTS |

Oh, for fie, you sharp-tongued harridan!! The ONE negative thing in the whole weekend and you have to bring it up!! LOL! I did not inhale the tuna salad. In fact, I did not touch it. I did eat the rubbery scrambled eggs for breakfast, though -- I was inured to such things in my years at sea! :D I think I heard Kendall muttering, "Jaysus! How kin ya make eggs tough???". Fortunately we were all soon off to do better things, like making music or swapping tall tales. A |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 09 Nov 07 - 01:47 PM Anybody seen or heard from our big redheaded Irishman? I was somewhat suspicious when neither he or Dani showed up at the Getaway, but here Dani is, sans Mick. Don't suppose he got hisself thrown in jail or hospital, do ya? I did see he's been hangin' out with that Seamus K. guy some. Hope they haven't up and led each other astray without inviting the rest of us to go along. Mmario - how do you think a nice Australian red would go with the Auroch? |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Amos Date: 09 Nov 07 - 02:22 PM You have someone in particular in mind, there, Janie? Said James in my opinion, There's nothin' in this world Beats a '52 Vincent and a Red-headed girrrrl...... A |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Tinker Date: 09 Nov 07 - 05:04 PM But if the question is Kendall and who the answer is always Jacqui. The rest of us are hangers on... |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 09 Nov 07 - 05:17 PM BTW, those of you who were missing the Getaway while it was going on also missed a mighty fine performance by Amos at the Sunday night concert of the song he just quoted. Not that I am trying to remind all y'all of what fine time you weren't there to have or anything. Gasp! (dodging the plate of half-eaten auroch steaks that LTS hurled at her) |

Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: KT Date: 09 Nov 07 - 09:34 PM Janie, I've been wondering about that Irishman too. Do you s'pose he's off galavanting with the other one? KT |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: KT Date: 09 Nov 07 - 09:38 PM gallivanting, that is. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 09 Nov 07 - 10:39 PM The Getaway is such a vivid memory that it sometimes seems like I'm there, instead of remembering. At least, that's the excuse I'm gonna use for now for those mixed tenses in my last post. Just so he's not galvanizing, KT. Not answering your 'pings' either? Wouldn't worry about the big lug so much when he goes awhile without posting if he hadn't pulled the disappearing heart attack trick on the way to Rick's memorial, and wasn't doing the level of organizing he's been up to lately. Well, he knows we love him. Say KT, would you look at my back and make sure I got all the food scraped off it? Whoever it was that let fly with that steak, I sure am glad it wasn't the egg/hashbrown cassarole from West River. That would have been like getting hit by shrapnel! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: GUEST,Kt Date: 10 Nov 07 - 04:09 AM A food fight, Janie? Hmmm....sounds like not much time was needed for dining this year.....all the better- more time for music making and merriment! KT |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Amos Date: 10 Nov 07 - 11:47 AM Yeah, it was basically "fueling stations, all hands", and not a lot more. But it kept the ole heart pumping for higher purposes, so no complaints!! :D A |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Tinker Date: 10 Nov 07 - 06:49 PM Okay I'm already missing the Getaway I've got a kid with a 104 temp and the Mainiacs are partying without me .... Make it a good bottle of red and a big plate of pasta -- what do you recommend tonite Mario ?? I want to pout over serious comfort food !!! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 10 Nov 07 - 11:14 PM Ahh Tinker. Hope you are not serious about that 104 temperature. That must be scary. I've got a bottle of Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Gran Reserva 1991 with your name on it. It ought to go just fine with the pasta, although lamb might be nice. Mmario, get out of the kitchen for a while and come sing with us! Janie |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Micca Date: 10 Nov 07 - 11:55 PM Janie I'll be around for dinner Tomorrow night 1991 Marques de Murrieta?? WOW!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 11 Nov 07 - 12:03 AM Uh-oh. By tomorrow night there might be naught but Gallo's Chianti left. But for a Cavalier in Pink, I might go buy another one! |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: KT Date: 11 Nov 07 - 01:31 AM The pink bonnet! Fetching, Micca! LOL! Not only missing the Getaway, but missing the Pink party, too! Tinker, some good ol' pasta sounds great! May I join you? Healing thoughts for bringing that temp down..... KT |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Nov 07 - 02:52 AM I was busy singing my little head off for money yesterday at a wedding (Bach/Gounod 'Ave Maria' solo and 'Jesu, joy of man's desiring- Guuuhuhuhhuhhuhhhh!!!) and was looking forward to some good, rib-sticking pasta when I got home. As I reached the bus station, I called Manitas and Limpit to suggest they get the pasta on for dinner. The bastards had eaten it for lunch. LTS - who is not a happy bunny. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Tinker Date: 11 Nov 07 - 09:35 AM Okay the child's temp is back down new (third) antibiotic and two nebulizer meds ... I'm off to tell stories this Sunday morning and when I get back... I'm gonnna settle in here and have a tall one . |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: Janie Date: 11 Nov 07 - 10:15 PM Somebody else that was missing the Getaway and is also missing from here is Allan C. and Carmen. Wish they'd mosey in and sing us a duet. Micca, you missed supper, but I'm sure Mmario can pull together some mighty fine leftovers. I'm afraid Tinker and I finished of the Marques de Murrieta, but I'm sipping a sweet little Australian Merlot that I'd be most pleased to share. |
Subject: RE: BS: "Missing the Getaway" Tavern From: GUEST,Barc Date: 09 Apr 08 - 01:01 PM Here's the complete text: This for the friends we had of old, Friends for a lifetime's love and cheer. This for the friends who come no more, Who cannot be among us here. We'll not forget, while we're alive, These hallowed dead, these deeds of fame. Where they have gone, we follow soon Into the darkness and the flame. Then we shall rise, our duty done, Freed from all pain and sorrow here; We'll leave behind ambition's sting And keep alive our honor dear. And they will stand beside us then, All whom we loved and hoped to see; And they shall sing, a glad AMEN, To cheer that final victory. Bring me my bow of burning gold; Bring me my arrows of desire; Bring me my ship — O clouds unfold — Bring me my chariot of fire. We shall not cease our faithful watch, Nor shall the sword sleep in our hand, Till we have gone beyond the stars To join that fair immortal band. —Elizabeth Moon, after William Blake's "Jerusalem". (I don't have a copy of the book with me; I'm not sure whether it actually names the song there. I call it "This for the Friends". |
