Subject: RE: Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen From: Phil Cooper Date: 14 Jan 08 - 12:05 AM I'd agree with all the above sentiments. Great performers. |
Subject: RE: Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen From: Art Thieme Date: 14 Jan 08 - 12:47 PM I corroborate!! They're old and good friends whose music I really love. Besides great voices, Steve is an amazing guitar player---detailed, complex, melodic, producing perfect backup for their incandescent repertory. Both write great songs, and Cindy's renditions of traditional story ballads allow you to hear all the words and easily follow the tales being told therein. It's easy to say nice things about these good folks!!! Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen-2008 tour From: CupOfTea Date: 10 May 08 - 12:26 PM The only negative thing I see on this thread about Steve & Cindy is that Cleveland doesn't appear on the list, dagnabbit. These are the kind of people who embody for me, all the the best aspects folk music. Cindy's voice and way of phrasing a song sounds as seamless as if she were talking to you, her sound is beautiful while never getting in the way of a song. They're both such grand musicians. I've known of Cindy longer than Steve, and always loved her blend of the very old songs and choice newer compositions. Steve's gentle strength in his writing is a joy. It's difficult to think of these folks aside from their music, so I'd say above and beyond the music, they're just wonderful human beings. I've enjoyed every second of their company the many times and several locations I've been lucky enough to share. If you've never seen them perform, go. Just go. Your soul will be enriched. Subject: RE: Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen-2008 tour From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Nov 09 - 09:17 AM MODS PLS CHANGE THREAD TITLE? From Cindy via email email: Hello, Big news! Steve Gillette, Cindy Mangsen, and Jack Williams will be cruising again next summer! Our last big venture was a journey to Alaska back in 2004, and we've been looking forward joining forces again. Our fearless tour organizer is once again Lynette Miller of Traveling Troubadour. We'll be sailing on the Holland America ship Maasdam, leaving Boston on July 3rd and arriving in Montreal on July 10th. Stops along the way are St. John (New Brunswick), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Sydney (Nova Scotia), Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island), and Quebec City. As on our Alaska trip, the three of us will give two concerts on board ship, solely for our own tour group. We'll also have a couple of receptions, and plenty of time for some relaxed song sessions, maybe even a workshop if there's interest. ~S~ |
