Here is there web site www.compassrosemusic.com

I believe they are on tour right now..
highly recommended...here are their appearances..
http://www.compassrosemusic.com/dates.html

Steve Gillette wrote a song I love:
Darcy Farrow, which he penned together with Tom Campbell.
Cindy has a c.d. filled with songs about cats..
both are very creative and often collaborate
with Tom Paxton and Anne Hills.

Don't miss them!

Laurel

A wonderful duo with magical harmonies. I have had the honour of seeing them perform live several times and each set was marvellous. Not to be missed.

I corroborate!! They're old and good friends whose music I really love. Besides great voices, Steve is an amazing guitar player---detailed, complex, melodic, producing perfect backup for their incandescent repertory. Both write great songs, and Cindy's renditions of traditional story ballads allow you to hear all the words and easily follow the tales being told therein.

It's easy to say nice things about these good folks!!!

They make it to central NY at *Least* once a year,
and it's always a treat. They'll be coming back here
to perform on the Bound for Glory live radio show
Sunday night, Feb 3rd. You can check it out, real time,
on line at wvbr.com. Live sets are at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30.
Shows aren't archived, so you'll have to catch them live.
Live on internet - what a wonderful world.

Just saw them again a few weeks ago, for about the fifth time; sweet people who make sweet music. their performance of "Tide and the River Rising" (Take up your oars and row) absolutely blisses me out.

How about "The Isobel" ---about the boat and it's name, and on several levels. Cindy wrote that one I'm pretty sure.

The only negative thing I see on this thread about Steve & Cindy is that Cleveland doesn't appear on the list, dagnabbit.

These are the kind of people who embody for me, all the the best aspects folk music.

Cindy's voice and way of phrasing a song sounds as seamless as if she were talking to you, her sound is beautiful while never getting in the way of a song. They're both such grand musicians. I've known of Cindy longer than Steve, and always loved her blend of the very old songs and choice newer compositions. Steve's gentle strength in his writing is a joy.

It's difficult to think of these folks aside from their music, so I'd say above and beyond the music, they're just wonderful human beings. I've enjoyed every second of their company the many times and several locations I've been lucky enough to share. If you've never seen them perform, go. Just go. Your soul will be enriched.

Joanne in Cleveland

MODS PLS CHANGE THREAD TITLE?

From Cindy via email email:

Hello,

Big news! Steve Gillette, Cindy Mangsen, and Jack Williams will be
cruising again next summer! Our last big venture was a journey to
Alaska back in 2004, and we've been looking forward joining forces
again. Our fearless tour organizer is once again Lynette Miller of
Traveling Troubadour.

We'll be sailing on the Holland America ship Maasdam, leaving Boston
on July 3rd and arriving in Montreal on July 10th. Stops along the
way are St. John (New Brunswick), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Sydney (Nova
Scotia), Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island), and Quebec City.   As
on our Alaska trip, the three of us will give two concerts on board
ship, solely for our own tour group. We'll also have a couple of
receptions, and plenty of time for some relaxed song sessions, maybe
even a workshop if there's interest.
