Derek has asked me to post on the web that he would like hire out his services as a guitar or banjo tutor to anyone who fancied a lesson.

The lessons would have to be at his house in Hemel Hempstead, as the only reason he's not gigging anymore is that he doesn't feel up travelling.

Derek has enjoyed a long career as a folk club professional. he plays folk style guitar in all the major tunings. His mastery of 5string banjo playing in both frailing and Scruggs style won him the Outstanding Instrumentalist Award of at Cambridge Folk Festival.

The rates he discussed with me seemed very reasonable indeed and you can contact him on 01442 264924.

I've had a banjo lesson from Del, I can only say, if you need one book now I learned so much. He's a lovely, friendly and patient man.

He could give lessons in stagecraft, too.

Just chatting to Derek on the phone. It seems the price he has decided on is twenty quid an hour, which seems very reasonable for a top guy to give you instruction.

I hope some of you give him a ring and become banjo and guitar players like Del.
