EZ,

I've been playing that tune for a long time. I heard his Newport folk festival version and fell in love with it on first hearing. I later got Grossman's book and tape Rev. Gary Davis/Blues Guitar and learned a bunch of the tunes off it and realized that a lot of the licks and inversions he played in S&D were contained in these other tunes,so I just grafted them on to what I had and keep adding to it. I certainly can't play it like RGD did but then that's why he's RGD. Learning some of his easier pieces might be good ground work. Good Luck, F

There is a Rev Gary Davis site: http://www.revgarydavis.com/ It has tabs for only 2 songs and Samson is not one them. However, there are a couple of links to where tab queries may be directed (one of them is Grossman's though). Anyhow the site is quite interesting. It has the lyrics to 'Samson' if you want to check yours.

Cheers, Stewie

I asked Stefan Grossman first, but he has never transcribed or published this particular song, strange, since it was RGD's biggest hit (via Peter Paul and Mary), and the royalties from it bought him his house in Queens.

Well, if you don't mind paying for it, I would suggest you contact Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop at

http://www.guitarvideos.com

(How is that Mick?) He took lessons with Davis, and has transcribed a lot of his work. It is probably in one of his books; but I am told he sells single transcriptions too.

Be warned that Davis never did a piece the same way twice. Any transcription will probably differ from the version you heard unless it came from that version.

Murray

Does anybody have the TAB/Music to this song, as played by Rev. Gary Davis? I can get the words off the record, but not the music.

Thanx, Easy Rider
