From: She'sAnArtist Date: 05 Jun 08 - 03:15 AM This is going to sound very cheesy, but starting around my 13th birthday I sent birthday cards to Bob Dylan every year on May 24th, c/o his record label (Columbia). Sometime after Time Out of Mind they began being sent back, and I didn't have the heart to keep trying. Does anyone have a suggestion of an address where Mr. Dylan might *actually* receive mail ? I know the odds aren't good he reads any of it, but just in case... Thanks so much ! |

If this is genuine - send them to someone who is accessible like Joan Baez - enclose the postage and ask her to forward them - or you could try his book publisher. But its a bit sad. Haven't you got any friends who would like a Christmas card? if he wanted Christmas cards, Bob wouldn't employ people to send them back to you. Perhaps its Bob himself who sends them back. |

So, the agent route is out. I think I agree with weelittledrummer. Sending a card to Bob Dylan is a waste of time and money. Generally, I do not open most Christmas cards until the late Spring - Birthday Cards almost never. You should make it truly unusual to catch attention - say with handcrafted paper (I like using the lint from the clothes drier - it is already evenly screened and only needs starch,drying, and pressing) - and caligraphy with goosequill pen and beetjuice ink. |

Some years ago Mr Dylan bought a house in New Orleans, on a very exclusive one-block-long gated street called Audubon Place. He lived there while recording one of his albums, working with producer Daniel Langois. I believe that he still owns the place, but hasn't been spotted around town for years. My favorite way to celebrate Bob's birthday is to attend a Dylan tribute night of live music, or better yet, a Dylan-tribute open mike. My wife's birthday is May 22, and she may be an even more enthusiastic fan of Bob than I am, so she is always aware of his approaching birthday. |

I have not heard of a Dylan birthday bash ever occurring around here among my musical friends, but I am kind of out in the sticks, so maybe that's why. Mr Dylan!!.....'. trying frantically to attract Dylan's attention. Even in those days anybody called Dylan was hard to contact. Dylan Thomas even took the extreme step of protecting his privacy by dying. This is a problem which afflicts every generation and won't go away..... |
