Just to point out-- You can order the Radio Ballads CDs from Camsco. And Mudcat gets a piece of the action. And I get to eat. And prices are competitive with ANYBODY's.

If you can get your hands on my old mate Barrie Roberts, he wrote one or two things in the Style back in the 70s. He writes novels now; I don't know where he is these days (lost touch a long time ago), but we might find him through his publisher ... I'll get back on that.

Yes, there is a God! And he obviously runs Topic Records.

However, the Ballads were made then, and this is now. Does anyone know of anyone who is interested in carrying on the form. Here at CBC Radio in Canada, we have had a couple of bashes at keeping it going ('The Idea of Canada' and 'Footprints In New Snow') although both had less of the 'tradition', at least the 'British' kind, in them. However, we are really interested in keeping the whole Radio Ballad form intact (i.e. trad music and 'actuality') if we can achieve it. (I've got Enoch Kent started on one....) One of my fellow producers, Steve Wadhams, is going back to the UK in September, for three months, as consultant to the Beeb to train all their young current affairs folks in the radio documentary form, and he is a confirmed Radio Ballad addict. Is there anyone he can link up with to get 'Mother Corp' back on track, and maybe get it going again there? Is there anyone, anywhere, who would like to try their hand at doing a new one?

Thought there might be a few folks interested in this.

The eight Radio-Ballads created between 1957 and 1964 will be coming out on CD next month. These are classic radio documentaries put together by Ewan MacColl, Peggy Seeger and Charles Parker.

They are: The Ballad of John Axon (on railwaymen) Song Of A Road (on roadbuilders) Singing The Fishing (on herring fishing communities) The Big Hewer (on coal miners) The Body Blow (on those suffering from polio) On The Edge (on teenagers) The Fight Game (on boxers) The Traveling People (on Britain's nomadic peoples)

Some great songs came out of these programs.
